You commit to the venue, the artists and the production before the first ticket sells, so the platform you choose decides what each ticket costs your buyers, how soon the money reaches you and how many fans turn interest into an order. These are the questions promoters, venues and festival teams ask before they choose, answered from each platform's own published pages.

## How do I sell more tickets without spending more on ads?

You can reward the fans who bring their friends. On Ticket Fairy each buyer of an eligible paid ticket gets their own referral link and earns back part of their ticket price as their friends buy.

You see which buyers brought in the most sales, so word of mouth shows up as orders you can count. Tixr Rewards is a built-in referral program that rewards fans for the sales they drive.

Some platforms reward a sales team instead: Skiddle buyers can sign up as reps and earn cash or rewards for sales from their links, and Fatsoma Reps is free to use, with the event organizer paying each rep a commission they choose.

## How much does a ticketing platform charge per ticket?

It depends on the platform, and most publish a fee per paid ticket. Eventbrite charges 3.7% plus $1.79 per paid ticket in the US, plus 2.9% payment processing per order, and Skiddle's default booking fee in the UK is 10% of face value plus 27p.

Ticket Tailor charges £0.60 plus VAT per paid ticket on pay as you go, and DICE charges a 13% service fee on face value under its US self sign-up terms.

On Ticket Fairy every plan has one standard booking fee, and you choose whether your buyers pay it on top of your price or you absorb it. You can see the plans and what your buyers pay on the [Ticket Fairy pricing page](https://www.ticketfairy.com/pricing).

- In the US the service fee is 3.7% + $1.79 per paid ticket.[5](#source-5)

## Do my buyers pay the booking fee, or do I?

On Ticket Fairy you choose: your buyers pay the booking fee on top of your ticket price, or you absorb it so the price they see is the price they pay.

Eventbrite's buyers pay ticket fees by default, and you can absorb them for each ticket type. Skiddle lets you pay its booking fee yourself as a commission taken from face value. DICE includes its booking fee in the advertised price, so fans see one all-in price.

Absorbing the fee is a choice about how your price reads on a poster. Passing it on keeps more of each ticket for you, which matters when you have already paid deposits to the venue and the artists.

- You choose whether buyers pay the booking fee on top of your price or you absorb it.[10](#source-10)
- Buyers pay ticket fees by default; organizers can choose to absorb them per ticket type.[11](#source-11)
- Organizers can pay the booking fee themselves as a commission deducted from face value.[12](#source-12)
- DICE includes its booking fee in the advertised ticket price, so the price shown is the price paid.[13](#source-13)

## How fast do I get my ticket money after the show?

On Ticket Fairy you can be paid daily as tickets sell on your own connected Stripe or Xendit account, where your country supports it, and money Ticket Fairy processes is paid after the event. Most platforms pay after the event: Eventbrite sends its default payout three business days after the event ends.

DICE pays within 5 business days after the event, and Humanitix pays out within 5 business days after the event ends on its own payment gateway. Skiddle releases ticket money after the event in payment runs every Tuesday and Thursday, and Resident Advisor processes promoter payments every Tuesday, with the money landing 1 to 3 days later.

On Ticket Fairy you can also see what each event took, what came off for refunds and fees, an estimate of what reaches you and when the payout is expected, so you know what you can pay before you commit to the next booking.

[Eventbrite vs Ticket Fairy](https://www.ticketfairy.com/compare/ticketing/ticket-fairy-vs-eventbrite)

## Can I get my ticket money before the event to pay deposits?

Yes, on Ticket Fairy: you can be paid daily as tickets sell on your own Stripe or Xendit account, and with Vault you can pay artists and suppliers from your ticket money before your payout arrives.

Elsewhere, early money usually depends on eligibility or a request. Eligible Eventbrite event organizers can receive weekly or twice-monthly payouts while events are upcoming. Humanitix event organizers can ask for a manual payout before the event, subject to approval, and Resident Advisor offers advance payouts to exclusive partners.

Ticket Tailor sends ticket money straight to your own Stripe, PayPal or Square account, where you can schedule payouts daily, weekly or monthly.

## Can fans pay for festival tickets in installments?

Yes, on most festival platforms. On Ticket Fairy your buyers pay a deposit at checkout and the rest in weekly or monthly installments that finish before the event.

Skiddle offers monthly payment plan tickets, and buyers get the ticket when the plan completes. Tixr collects a deposit and then scheduled installments, and Resident Advisor's deposit schemes let buyers pay for tickets over £60 in installments you set. DICE buyers in the UK can split the cost into 3 with Klarna Pay in 3.

Eventbrite states that it does not offer a native layaway or installment plan feature. A payment plan keeps the fans who want a weekend ticket and would rather spread the cost over the months before the gates open.

- Your buyers can pay a deposit at checkout and the rest in weekly or monthly installments that finish before the event.[25](#source-25)
- Organizers can offer monthly Payment Plan tickets; buyers get the ticket when the plan completes.[26](#source-26)

## Can fans resell their tickets if their plans change?

Yes. On Ticket Fairy fans resell and transfer tickets at face value, and each returned ticket goes to the next fan on your waiting list.

Skiddle's Re:Sell lets buyers resell at face value only, at no cost to the promoter, and Humanitix's built-in resale works at the original price with no extra fee. DICE offers returned tickets for sold-out events to fans on its Wait List, and Resident Advisor resells returned tickets at the final tier price, with the extra going to the promoter.

Face-value resale keeps the night full and keeps the ticket with a fan who wants to be there, rather than a resale site.

- Your fans can resell and transfer tickets at face value, and each returned ticket is offered to the next fan on your waiting list.[31](#source-31)
- Re:Sell lets buyers resell tickets through Skiddle at face value only, at no cost to the promoter.[32](#source-32)
- Built-in resale lets buyers resell only at the original sale price, with no additional resale fee.[33](#source-33)
- For sold-out events, returned tickets are offered to fans on the Wait List, each with a reserved buying window.[34](#source-34)
- RA resale sells returned tickets at the final tier price, and the extra revenue goes to the promoter.[35](#source-35)

## How do I stop touts and bots buying up my tickets?

No single setting stops touting, so you combine a few. On Ticket Fairy you can cap how many tickets one buyer takes, ask buyers to prove who they are before the ticket is issued, and offer a waiting list to the fans who missed out.

Face-value resale helps too, because fans whose plans change sell back at the price you set. Resident Advisor withholds barcodes until 24 hours before the event and uses a virtual waiting room for high-demand on-sales. DICE tickets are an in-app QR code linked to the buyer's phone number and activated on the day.

## How do I turn fans who say they're interested into ticket buyers?

You give them a reason to buy early: on Ticket Fairy fans can register before your on-sale, earn points for sharing the event and buy first in a pre-sale.

You can also see the buyers who entered their details at checkout and never paid, and email them back to your event. Humanitix emails buyers who start but do not finish a purchase a few hours later.

Resident Advisor lets promoters export pre-registration data with the fields they choose, and Fatsoma gives event organizers a follower every time they sell a ticket.

## Can I sell tickets on my own website?

Yes. On Ticket Fairy your buyers choose tickets, pay by card and get their confirmation without leaving your own website, and you also get a website for your events.

Eventbrite gives you embedded checkout code for your own site. Humanitix and Ticket Tailor each offer an embeddable checkout widget, and DICE offers an Event Listing Creator that shows your events on your website as a list or gallery.

## Can buyers pick their own seats?

Yes. On Ticket Fairy your buyers pick their own seat on your venue's map, and your team can move a ticket holder to a different seat later without a new order.

Eventbrite has a seating chart maker for assigned seats, and Tixr's seat maps cover seats, tables, cabanas, suites, campsites and parking. Fatsoma states that it has no seating system of its own, and on Ticket Tailor each reserved seat uses one extra credit.

- Your buyers can pick their own seat on your venue's map.[51](#source-51)
- You can move a whole order to another ticket type or give one ticket holder a different seat, without the buyer placing a new order.[52](#source-52)

## Can my door team scan tickets on their own phones?

Yes. On Ticket Fairy your door team scans tickets on their own phones, each with their own login, so you can see who let each ticket in.

Most platforms give you a free scanning app. Fatsoma Scan syncs across your door staff's devices, Ticket Tailor's Check-in app runs on iOS and Android, and Humanitix for Hosts scans, checks in and sells tickets.

Skiddle charges a RapidScan fee on every order, per basket, whether or not the tickets are scanned.

## Can I sell tickets to walk-ups at the door on the night?

Yes. On Ticket Fairy your door team sells to walk-ups in the scanning app, and on a compatible Android phone the buyer taps their card, phone or watch on the back of it, with no card reader to hire.

Ticket Tailor event organizers take in-person card payments with Tap to Pay in its free Check-in app, and the Eventbrite Organizer app takes on-site payments. Under its UK self sign-up terms, DICE sets an 8% commission on box office and door sales, with a minimum of £1 and a maximum of £3.50.

## How do I run my guest list without a spreadsheet?

Every guest can get a real ticket. On Ticket Fairy you send free guest tickets with their own barcodes, one at a time or from a spreadsheet, and those tickets stay out of your takings.

When the support act's manager or a radio station needs tickets too, you give them a fixed allocation and their own link, so they add their own guests up to the number you set. They stop at your limit, and the door team scans every guest like a buyer.

You keep a record of who was sent which ticket and who sent it, so when a guest turns up with extra friends, your door team knows exactly who was invited.

## What happens to my buyers if I have to postpone the event?

You tell them first and decide who can get their money back. On Ticket Fairy you can postpone before the new date is confirmed, tell every ticket holder, choose who can ask for a refund, and publish the new date once you have it.

When a refund is the right answer, you return the face value of an order to the buyer's card from the Orders page, and the buyer's tickets and your reports update to match.

Skiddle's Cool:Off is an opt-in refund window in which buyers can ask for a refund with no questions asked.

## Do I get to keep my ticket buyers' details?

On Ticket Fairy, yes: you have your own customer list, showing your repeat and lapsed buyers, and you can download a CSV of every ticket with the buyer's details.

Platforms share buyer data in different ways. Eventbrite exports attendee reports as Excel or CSV, and Humanitix exports its attendees and orders reports as CSV, with marketing opt-ins. Before your first download of opted-in Skiddle data, you sign a data sharing agreement and watch a GDPR video.

Resident Advisor lets you export ticket buyer data with the fields you choose, and after the event it provides only the emails of buyers who opted in. DICE offers a Ticket Holders API; we did not find a file export, such as CSV, in DICE's public material.

Eventbrite event organizers can send up to 250 promotional emails a day by default. Ticket Tailor's text message reminders cost 10p per event per order in the UK, and are also available to US event organizers. Tixr runs email and text campaigns through partner tools such as Hive, which charge their own subscription fees.

On Ticket Fairy you group day and weekend tickets into categories and open each price release on its own date.

Your door team then knows who is allowed in each day. Camping and parking go in the same checkout as admission, and face-value resale keeps returned weekend tickets with fans on your waiting list.

You can keep any assistant away from one event, such as a members-only show, and every order still goes through your own ticket types and limits.
