# Add custom questions to your event checkout

Your event may need one more answer from each buyer or ticket holder. Custom questions let you collect a meal choice, accessibility request or company detail, and place each answer on the order, ticket or add-on.

## Før du går i gang

- You're an owner or admin for the event, or a Ticket Fairy support role allowed to manage its settings.
- Your event is saved and you know whether the answer belongs once per order, once per ticket or once per add-on.
- You have chosen a short question label and a field name without spaces or numbers. Use an underscore in the field name when you need to separate words.

1. ## Open the event settings

   Open **Settings** for the event. The **Custom Fields** section groups existing fields by where their answers belong.

2. ## Start a custom field

   Select **Create Custom Field**. The field dialog opens with the default order-level text question ready to change.

3. ## Choose where the answer belongs

   Under **Append to**, choose **Order** for one answer per order, **Ticket** for one answer per ticket holder, or **Add-On** for an answer about an add-on.

   **Bemærk:** Choose Ticket when every attendee may give a different answer. Choose Order when the buyer gives one answer for the whole purchase.
4. ## Choose the question type

   Choose **Type**.

   **Bemærk:** Use Text or Text Area for an open answer, Phone for a number, or Radio, Select or Multiple Select for a fixed set of choices. Image fields are available for order-level uploads.
5. ## Enter the question label

   Enter the question buyers should read in **Label**.
6. ## Give the field its internal name

   Enter a unique **Name**, such as "meal\_preference" or "accessibility\_needs".

   **Bemærk:** The name cannot contain spaces or numbers. It is the stable name used when the answer is stored, so do not change it casually after buyers have started answering.
7. ## Set the display position

   Enter the display position in **Order of display**.
8. ## Add choices when the question needs them

   For a Radio, Select or Multiple Select question, select **Add Option** for each answer.

   **Bemærk:** Enter the option name and value in each row, and enter a **Default Value** only when one answer should be preselected. Keep option names short and distinct.
9. ## Choose whether the answer is required

   Turn on **Required** when checkout must have an answer before the buyer can finish.

   **Bemærk:** The display settings control whether the answer appears on **Show on My Ticket**, the PDF, the scan view or an attendee update. Make a question required only when your door or fulfilment team needs the answer.
10. ## Create the question and check its group

    Select **Create**. The new question appears in the Custom Fields table under its Order, Ticket or Add-On group.

    **Bemærk:** Answer the question in a test checkout before you put the event on sale. The buyer answer is captured at purchase and stays with the order, ticket or add-on it belongs to.

Fai can list an event's checkout fields and create basic order, ticket or add-on fields after showing you the proposed type, label and where the answer belongs. She can remove all custom fields only after an explicit full-wipe confirmation. Editing one existing field and setting conditional rules remain dashboard work. MCP and the CLI do not manage these fields.

## Review or remove existing questions

Open the field row and choose **Edit** to review it, or choose **Delete** after checking the field name. The dashboard handles one field at a time; the Fai delete action removes every custom field on the event and asks for a full-wipe confirmation.

**Advarsel:** Do not use the full-wipe action to remove one question. Existing answers on orders are kept, but new checkouts stop collecting every field you remove.

Fai can list the current fields or remove every custom field after you explicitly confirm the full wipe. Edit one field in the dashboard.

Should I attach a checkout question to the order or to each ticket?:  Choose Order when the buyer gives one answer for the whole purchase. Choose Ticket when each ticket holder can have a different answer, such as a meal choice or name. Choose Add-On when the answer belongs to the add-on rather than the ticket.

Can I make a custom checkout question required?:  Yes. Turn on Required in the field dialog. Whether you attached the question to the order, a ticket or an add-on, the buyer must answer it before they can finish checkout.

Can a custom question show only after another answer?:  Conditional custom fields are supported by the checkout data model, but the current Fai path does not create or edit their rules. Use the dashboard when your event has that conditional-field control, or ask Ticket Fairy Support to help with the setup.

Can I use the same custom question on several events?:  This Settings page saves the field on one event. Add the question to each event that needs it, and check on each event whether the answer belongs to the order, a ticket or an add-on before you publish.
