Blending a plethora of styles and genres, the Australian artist has amassed over 50 million streams in 2022 alone. RESTRICTED’s goal is to bridge the gap between underground and mainstream music stages, popularizing minimal electronic dance music and making it more accessible to everyone without any limitations. When not in the studio, RESTRICTED can be found internationally and nationally, playing at some of Australia’s prominent venues and alongside acts such as Timmy Trumpet, Martin Garrix, Ben Nicky, Laidback Luke, and many more. Continuing his knack for delivering high-profile releases, he has now teamed up with Croatian-German DJ and producer along with LA-based singer-songwriter GoldFord for a delightful single called ‘Sleepless.’ We were keen to know from RESTRICTED how the tune came about; and this is what he had to say about his latest single. **TFword: Your first single of 2023 and also your first collaboration with Topic is here! What are your thoughts on how ‘Sleepless’ has shaped up?** **RESTRICTED:** Super happy with how this track turned out, I think it’s a perfect blend between both our styles, while fitting with what’s current & radio. **TF: First, it has an emotional intro followed by the pulsating yet measured drums and then the chords to close the tune; ‘Sleepless’ has sent us on a captivating journey. Talk us through the creative process of the tune?** **RESTRICTED:** Well, I originally got sent the vocal and thought that it would be perfect for a  follow-up of my track “Big Jet Plane”. So I added my elements and at the time Topic was in the city in Australia and we had been speaking, so he came over and we worked on a few ideas and one of them ended up being sleepless. I think the track is a perfect blend between both our styles and what’s current at the moment. [Restricted x Topic - Sleepless (feat. What was the experience like while working with GoldFord?** **RESTRICTED:** We originally had a different vocal, but Topic suggested Goldford, and after the first demo we both loved the new vocal so we went with that. Goldford has an amazing voice and it suited the track perfectly. **TF: 2023 has also seen some belting remixes from Restricted where we have seen you explore your sonic palette to newer heights. What was it like working on the remixes?** **RESTRICTED:** I love remixing tracks, always have and always will, usually my remixes allow me to try different styles and experiment with new sounds while incorporating them into my style. [Venbee, Goddard. - Messy In Heaven (Restricted Remix)](https://www.youtube.com/embed/nQhZeAGsSt0?feature=oembed) **TF: Right from your first release in 2019 to your mind-bending music in 2023, how do you think your style has evolved over the years?** **RESTRICTED:** I think music has evolved a lot since 2019 and the core of my style is still the same and always will be, but I will always take inspiration and elements from music I find cool or styles that are current. **TF: You’re right in the middle of your headlining tour across Europe as well. How has the journey on the road been for you so far?** **RESTRICTED:** All the shows have been amazing and I’m super happy to have played at so many dream festivals this summer, the support has been absolutely insane. I’ve been super inspired, writing so many new ideas, and with just under two weeks left of the tour, I can’t wait to get back home and smash out all this new music before I’m back in October. **TF: What are Restricted’s tour essentials?** **RESTRICTED:** My Bose CQ II headphones are essential for flying, they’re nose cancelling and I can’t sleep/travel without them, for some reason crying babies follow me everywhere I fly. Other essentials are my laptops for production, AirTags and Rexona shower fresh deodorant, I think it’s woman’s but I’ll never use another deodorant. **TF: What’s coming next for Restricted?** **RESTRICTED:** A lot of new music leading up until the end of the year, will also be releasing a lot of the unreleased remixes and edits that I’ve been playing throughout my sets over the last year.
