Lesezeit ***Ahead of his debut at LOCUS Tulum 2024 next week, we had a chat with Keeno about his expectations from the festival, his journey so far, and his plans for this year.*** When he made his full debut on Med School Music in 2013, Keeno was one of the genre’s best-kept secrets; a decade later, he is one of DnB’s most treasured possessions. When it comes to crafting jaw-dropping cinematic soundscapes, no one does it better than the Bristol-based maestro. Each piece of music released by Keeno demonstrates his love for classical sounds and his ability to craft carefully constructed arrangements that have the power to mesmerize the listener. Numerous singles and EPs, along with four critically acclaimed albums, are a testament to his unwavering passion for creating unforgettable musical experiences. The thought of witnessing Keeno’s music in a live setting is something we’ve been waiting for, and as the countdown runs into single digits until the five-day showcase begins in Tulum, we had a chat with the man himself about his expectations from the festival, his label, his music and his plans for the year 2024. **The general consensus has been that 2023 flew past faster than any other year in recent memory. Do you feel the same as well?** **KEENO:** Definitely. 2023 was a fantastic year for me and the new Keeno Music label. I had 11 releases, recorded a DJ set on a snowy mountain in Andorra, launched my new Piano-DJ set, toured Aus/NZ and had two sold-out hometown label nights. I’m hoping 2024 is much the same! **This year’s edition will be your first appearance at LOCUS Tulum. What are you most looking forward to from the festival? KEENO:** I’m most looking forward to catching-up with friends and producers that I’ve not seen in months/years e.g. I’ve not seen Polaris since before COVID! To be with the extended drum & bass family in such a beautiful location… I couldn’t ask for more. **Four breathtaking albums, tons of singles and EPs; and now your own label. You’ve built yourself an envious catalog and are now en route to building your own legacy. How do you look back at your journey since your debut?** **KEENO:** Having just turned 30, I’ve been doing a lot of reflection on the last decade of my life. I’m very proud of my musical and personal achievements. Drum & Bass has given me everything I could ever need: a worldwide family, a constant source of inspiration and a successful career that spans 12 years and counting. The best bit is… I feel like I’m only just getting started. I’m proud to pioneer my own unique style of orchestral drum & bass through my Keeno Music label and, hopefully one day, to pave the way for a swathe of new Orchestral Dance Music producers/composers. What can we expect from Keeno for his melodious spectacle?** **KEENO:** Thank you!! It’ll be my first performance ever in Mexico so to be bringing the Piano with me too is extra special. You can expect a bit of everything: from solo piano all the way up to the biggest double drops I can muster. Each show can be so different – I can’t wait. **Of course, with Tulum comes Mexican food. What is it that you’re looking forward to trying when in Tulum?** **KEENO:** No Mexican trip would be complete without some Tacos! I’m a huge food lover so I’ll be taking notes and trying some recipes when I get back home again, for sure. **What was the inspiration behind starting your own label in 2022?** **KEENO:** I started Keeno Music with one simple mission: to bring more Orchestral music and Classical influences to drum & bass. The response was immediate and very clear: people love it! 2022/23 were about establishing a strong foundation to grow sustainably as an artist and label. Now that’s done, I can put my plans into action and see how far I can take this.
