He first emerged as an 18-year-old, making waves in an already thriving jump-up scene. But it didn’t take long for him to stretch beyond genre boundaries. From hard-hitting dubstep drops to unexpected detours into psytrance, Captain Bass is an artist who thrives on pushing limits. His fearless attitude and open-minded approach have earned him a reputation as one of Belgium’s most adventurous names in bass music. A true showcase of Captain Bass’ production prowess, ‘Danger’ blends bold, punchy low-end with twisted sonics and raw, relentless momentum. Eksman’s electrifying vocal delivery elevates the track into a certified jump-up weapon that’s designed for the rave and destined to cause chaos. With international tours in full swing, a rapidly growing fan base, and more heavyweight releases on the horizon, we caught up with Captain Bass to dive into the making of ‘Danger,’ his cross-genre approach, and how he’s charting his next musical voyage. **TFword: First off, congratulations on ‘Danger’! How did the collaboration with the legendary MC Eksman come about? Captain Bass:** Thanks so much! I actually made the instrumental a while ago and really loved it, but it always felt like it was missing something. That’s when I reached out to Eksman. He liked the vibe instantly and sent me a vocal the next day – it fit perfectly! Did you and Eksman work in the studio or remotely? Captain Bass:** We worked remotely. I just sent him the intro and a bit of the drop, and the first thing he recorded was spot on. Super smooth process, really shows how much of a professional he is. ****TF:**The track feels like a real weapon for the dancefloor. What kind of energy were you aiming for? Captain Bass:** Yeah, it’s a proper stomper! We wanted to create something people could shout along to – a catchy rave anthem with energy and attitude. ****TF:**How does ‘Danger’ differ from your earlier releases? Captain Bass:** It’s got a different structure, especially with the vocal over the melody. That was new for me. At first, it felt a bit strange, but now I couldn’t imagine the track without it. ****TF:**Why did you decide to release this one on Invicta Audio? Captain Bass:** I dropped ‘Murderer’ with them last year and had a great experience. They’re super professional and really put effort into pushing each release. It made sense to team up again, especially with a track like Danger. Huge love to Invicta! ****TF:**You started in jump-up but now touch on dancefloor DnB and dubstep too. What sparked that shift? Captain Bass:** I just love experimenting. I’ve made techno, house, rap, all sorts. If I enjoy it and it feels right, I release it. Dubstep was a fun crossover, and dancefloor drum and bass has been a passion of mine for years – I was super happy to release ‘Enough’ on Pilot recently. Captain Bass:** Definitely Camo & Krooked. They’ve made so many bangers across different styles – they really opened my mind to what’s possible in DnB. One of the greatest things to do it in my opinion. ****TF:**How do you balance detailed production with big crowd impact? Captain Bass:** I try to make the kind of music I’d want to hear in a rave. I love a good switch-up or moment of impact, usually tied together with a strong melody. Something catchy always gets the crowd going and I know how memorable tracks like this can be. ****TF:**Belgium’s bass scene is thriving. How has being based there influenced your sound? Captain Bass:** The scene here is growing fast and the crowd is always up for something new. That openness gave me the confidence to try different styles and trust my instincts. I feel a lot of artists to come out of the country have followed this path. ****TF:**Does Belgium give you more creative freedom than other DnB strongholds? Captain Bass:** I think so, yeah. There’s less pressure to fit into a certain sound. As an artist, having that freedom to experiment is everything, and due to Belgium ravers being so open to everything, it gives you a real sense of diversity in production. ****TF:**You’re on some huge line-ups this year – Tomorrowland, Rampage, DNB Allstars. How’s that felt? Captain Bass:** Honestly, amazing. I never thought I’d be on stages this big. DnB is growing like crazy and it’s a blessing to be part of that movement. I am so excited to see what happens further down the line. ****TF:**Any new directions or genres you want to explore next? Captain Bass:** Maybe more crossovers, but mostly I just want to keep doing what I’m doing. I’m really happy with where my sound is right now but I also want to remain versatile and adapt with the changes in what people want to hear. ****TF:**What’s coming up for Captain Bass in 2025? Captain Bass:** A few more singles are on the way this year, the release schedule is probably the strongest it’s ever been. As for shows, I’ve got some brand new territories to go and play to, which I am so excited about. ****TF:**Any unreleased collabs or surprises you can tease?
