The Scandinavian nation is adding a new gender-neutral pronoun to its official language and dictionaries. “Hen” would be an alternate term to the feminine pronoun “hun” and masculine pronoun “han”. The decision was confirmed by The Language Council of Norway. These pronouns will be part of both Norway’s written local languages ‘Bokmål’ (Book Language) and ‘Nynorsk’ (New Norwegian). It will enter the language within the year. “Over the years, we have seen that it (the gender neutral pronoun) has become increasingly used. In 2019, the French dictionary ‘Le Petit Robert’ added ‘iel’ and ‘iels’ as official non-binary pronouns.
