From ‘World Autism Awareness Day’, which is observed on April 2, to ‘International Jazz Day’ celebrated on April 30, we have compiled a long list of all the Awareness Days marked in April 2022 that you should know of to help bring about a change.

With so many things going on around the world, we must raise awareness of these issues concerning us and the people on this planet. One such way of doing so is by observing international days and weeks that are occasions held to educate the public on issues of concern.

## April 2, 2022

## World Autism Awareness Day

This year‘s observance of ‘World Autism Awareness Day’ will  [address](https://www.un.org/en/observances/autism-day)  “inclusive education in the context of SDG 4 – the promise and reality – through a virtual event”. The event will include a moderated panel discussion, along with brief presentations by self-advocates, educators and other experts.

According to the UN  [website](https://www.un.org/en/observances/autism-day) , “The theme of inclusive education is intrinsically linked with the focus of last year’s WAAD observance, “Inclusion in the Workplace” with panelists in last year’s event emphasizing how crucial it is to foster inclusive quality education for people on the autism spectrum.” This is so that they can fulfill their potential and achieve sustainable success in the labor market.

“In this respect, **inclusive education is the key to the transformative promise of the Sustainable Development Goals, to** [**LEAVE NO ONE BEHIND**](https://unsdg.un.org/2030-agenda/universal-values/leave-no-one-behind),” [states](https://www.un.org/en/observances/autism-day) the United Nations website.

The event is organized by the UN Department of Global Communications and the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs. It is supported by civil society partners. This includes the Autistic Self Advocacy Network, the Global Autism Project and the Specialisterne Foundation.

## April 4, 2022

## International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action

On 8 December 2005, the General Assembly [ declared](http://undocs.org/A/RES/60/97)  that every year, April 4 shall be observed as the ‘International Day for Mine Awareness and Assistance in Mine Action’. It “ [called](https://www.un.org/en/observances/mine-awareness-day)  for continued efforts by States with the assistance of the United Nations and relevant organizations, to foster the establishment and development of national mine-action capacities in countries where mines and explosive remnants of war constitute a serious threat to the safety, health and lives of the civilian population, or an impediment to social and economic development at the national and local levels.”

This year’s theme for the observation of the day is: “Safe Ground, Safe Steps, Safe Home,” with the focus of the observance being on the impressive achievements of the global mine action community.

## April 5, 2022

## International Day of Conscience 

The General Assembly [ declared](https://undocs.org/en/A/RES/73/329)  April 5 the International Day of Conscience. They took this decision keeping in mind the “conscious of the need for the creation of conditions of stability and well-being and peaceful and friendly relations based on respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms for all without distinction as to race, sex, language or religion,” as per the UN website.

The General Assembly  [invites](https://www.un.org/en/observances/conscience-day)  officials and individuals to “build the Culture of Peace with Love and Conscience in accordance with the culture and other appropriate circumstances or customs of their local, national and regional communities, including through quality education and public awareness-raising activities, thereby fostering [ sustainable development](https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/) .”

## April 6, 2022

## International Day of Sport for Development and Peace

Sports have a vast reach. It has unparalleled popularity and a foundation of positive values. Therefore, it is ideally positioned to contribute toward the United Nations’ objectives for development and peace and to raise awareness of this potential, 6 April was declared the International Day of Sport for Development and Peace (IDSDP) by the UN General Assembly.

“The adoption of this Day signifies the increasing recognition by the UN of the positive influence that sport can have on the advancement of human rights, and social and economic development,” states the UN  [website](https://www.un.org/en/observances/sport-day) .

## April 7, 2022

## International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda

On 7 April, UNESCO commemorates the International Day of Reflection on the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. It was  [established](https://undocs.org/A/RES/58/234)  by the United Nations General Assembly (link is external) in 2003. 7 April is the date that marks the beginning of the genocide perpetrated against members of the Tutsi minority by the Hutu extremist-led government.

According to UNESCO, “within just over 100 days, more than 1 million Tutsi were systematically  [murdered](https://en.unesco.org/commemorations/tutsigenocide)  and moderate Hutu and others who opposed the massacres were also killed during this period.” “UNESCO is committed to promoting [ education about genocides](https://en.unesco.org/themes/holocaust-genocide-education)  as a means to sensitize learners for the causes, dynamics and consequences of such crimes and to strengthen their resilience against all forms of discrimination,”  [states](https://en.unesco.org/commemorations/tutsigenocide)  their website.

## World Health Day

Each year, it draws attention to a specific health topic of concern to people all over the world. ## April 12, 2022

## International Day of Human Space Flight

On 4 October 1957, the first human-made Earth satellite Sputnik I was launched into outer space. This opened the way for space exploration, and on 12 April 1961, Yuri Gagarin became the first human to orbit the Earth. On this day, a new chapter of human endeavor in outer space. The General Assembly  [declared](https://www.un.org/en/observances/human-spaceflight-day)  12 April as the [ International Day of Human Space Flight](http://undocs.org/A/RES/65/271) .

They did this “to celebrate each year at the international level the beginning of the space era for mankind, reaffirming the important contribution of space science and technology in achieving sustainable development goals and increasing the well-being of States and peoples, as well as ensuring the realization of their aspiration to maintain outer space for peaceful purposes,” as per the UN [website](https://www.un.org/en/observances/human-spaceflight-day).

## April 14, 2022

## World Chagas Disease Day \[WHO\]

April 14 is marked as World Chagas Disease Day and was observed for the first time in 2020. Chagas disease, also known as “silent or silenced disease”, “affects mainly poor people without access to health care or people without a political voice,” as per the WHO  [website](https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-chagas-disease-day) . The disease progresses slowly.

It often shows an asymptomatic clinical course and without treatment, Chagas disease can  [lead](https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-chagas-disease-day)  to severe cardiac and digestive alterations and become fatal, as per WHO. WHO website  [states](https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-chagas-disease-day) : “Raising awareness of the disease is essential to improve the rates of early treatment and cure, together with the interruption of its transmission.”

## April 20, 2022

## Chinese Language Day

As per the UN website, the date April 20 was selected as the Chinese Language Day as the date was “ [selected](https://www.un.org/zh/observances/chinese-language-day/english)  from Guyu (“Rain of Millet”), which is the 6th of 24 solar terms in the traditional East Asian calendars, to pay tribute to Cangjie,” is a very important figure in ancient China. ## April 21, 2022

## World Creativity and Innovation Day

The United Nations declared 21 April as World Creativity and Innovation Day. The day was marked to “ [raise](https://www.un.org/en/observances/creativity-and-innovation-day)  the awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in all aspects of human development.” Creativity has, both, monetary and non-monetary value as the creative economy is a “highly  [transformative](https://www.un.org/en/observances/creativity-and-innovation-day)  sector of the world economy in terms of income generation, job creation, and export earnings,” as per the UN website.

This creative economy includes audiovisual products, design, new media, performing arts, publishing, and visual arts. At the same time, creativity and culture have a significant non-monetary value. ## International Mother Earth Day

## April 23, 2022

## World Book and Copyright Day

World Book and Copyright Day are celebrated on April 23. Through reading and celebration of the day, we can open ourselves to others despite the distance. We can travel thanks to imagination. ## English Language Day

After celebrating Chinese Language Day on April 20, English Language Day at the UN is celebrated on April 23. The date is traditionally observed as both the birthday and date of death of William Shakespeare. The purpose of observing this day is the same as what we mentioned earlier, “to celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity as well as to promote equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization,” as per the UN  [website](https://www.un.org/en/observances/english-language-day) .

## Spanish Language Day

The Spanish Language Day is celebrated on the same day as the English Language Day on April 23 with the same purpose of celebrating multilingualism and cultural diversity and promoting equal use of all six official languages throughout the Organization.

## World Immunization Week

World Immunization Week is celebrated in the last week of April. It aims to “highlight the collective action needed and to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease,” as per the WHO  [website](https://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2022/04/24/default-calendar/world-immunization-week-2022---long-life-for-all) .

WHO works with countries across the globe. They do this to “ [raise awareness](https://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2022/04/24/default-calendar/world-immunization-week-2022---long-life-for-all)  of the value of vaccines and immunization and ensure that governments obtain the necessary guidance and technical support to implement high-quality immunization programs.”

The theme for the World Immunization Week 2022  is “**Long Life for All In pursuit of a long life well lived”**and the ultimate goal of the Week is for “more people – and their communities – to be [protected](https://www.who.int/news-room/events/detail/2022/04/24/default-calendar/world-immunization-week-2022---long-life-for-all) from vaccine-preventable diseases.”

## World Malaria Day

## International Delegate’s Day

The UN General Assembly has [proclaimed](https://undocs.org/en/A/RES/73/286) 25 April as International Delegate’s Day. This decision was taken to “[raise](https://www.un.org/en/observances/delegates-day) awareness of the role of the representatives and delegates of the Member States to the United Nations.”

International Delegate’s Day marks the anniversary of the first day of the[San Francisco Conference](https://www.un.org/en/sections/history-united-nations-charter/1945-san-francisco-conference/). This was also known as the United Nations Conference on International Organization. On 25 April 1945, delegates from fifty countries came together for the first time in San Francisco after the devastation of the second world war. “Their aim was to set up an organization that would restore world peace and imposes rules on the post-war world order,” [states](https://www.un.org/en/observances/delegates-day) the UN website.

## April 26, 2022

## International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day

In the now territories of Belarus, Ukraine and the Russian Federation, an [explosion](https://www.un.org/en/observances/chernobyl-remembrance-day) at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant in 1986 spread a radioactive cloud. (It spread over large parts of the then Soviet Union). “Nearly 8.4 million people in the three countries were [exposed](https://www.un.org/en/observances/chernobyl-remembrance-day) to the radiation” and on “8 December 2016 the United Nations General Assembly adopted a [resolution](http://undocs.org/A/RES/71/125) declaring 26 April as International Chernobyl Disaster Remembrance Day,” states the UN website.

It  [recognized](https://www.un.org/en/observances/chernobyl-remembrance-day)  that three decades after the disaster, there remain persistent serious long-term consequences. As per the UN, the “ [affected](https://www.un.org/en/observances/chernobyl-remembrance-day)  communities and territories are experiencing continuing related needs” and the General Assembly invites all to observe the day.

## World Intellectual Property Day

April 26 is celebrated as World Intellectual Property Day. Its theme this year  [focuses](https://www.wipo.int/ip-outreach/en/ipday/)  on IP and Youth innovating for a Better Future. “We explore how these innovative, energetic and creative minds are driving positive change,”  [states](https://www.wipo.int/ip-outreach/en/ipday/)  the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

## International Girls in ICT Day

This year International Girls in ICT Day will be celebrated on April 28 and its theme is “Access and Safety”. As per the ITU website, the theme this year was “[selected](https://www.itu.int/women-and-girls/girls-in-ict/) due to the discouraging and dangerous obstacles girls can sometimes face in the digital environment.” “In consultation with girls and young women, we identified challenges to highlight that they may face as they begin their journey in the digital environment, and possible solutions to these challenges,” [states](https://www.itu.int/women-and-girls/girls-in-ict/) the ITU website.

“This year and every year, ITU and its partners will work together on [developing](https://www.itu.int/women-and-girls/girls-in-ict/) solutions and ideas for lowering barriers and improving safety online.
