The biggest night in music returned for a night full of surprises in 2024. From performances by icons like Joni Mitchell, Tracy Chapman, Billy Joel, and more, Annie Lennox calling for a ceasefire in Gaza, to Taylor Swift announcing a new album, Victoria Monét finally taking home the gramophone, and Miley Cyrus tore the stage with her fiery performance, the 66th Grammy Awards was a night to remember! Check out the highlights of the 2024 Grammy Awards below:

## Miley Cyrus Wins Her First Grammy Award

Miley Cyrus beat out stars Billie Eilish (‘What Was I Made For?’), Taylor Swift (‘Anti-Hero’), Doja Cat (‘Paint the Town Red’), and Olivia Rodrigo (‘Vampire’) to win her first-ever Grammy Award for the Best Pop Solo Performance. Her lead single ‘Flowers’ off the record ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ helped the former Disney Channel star achieve this feat. “This M.C. is going to stand by this M.C. because this is just too iconic. Oh my god, I just got stuck in the rain and traffic and thought I was going to miss this moment. And I could have missed the award — that’s fine — but not Mariah Carey! I just saw you at the Hollywood Bowl. It was everything,” Cyrus began.

“There was a little boy that all he wanted for his birthday was a butterfly. So his parents gave him a butterfly net and he was so excited. He went outside out in the sun and started swinging and swinging. But with no luck, he sat down on the ground, he finally let go and he surrendered. He was okay that he was not going to capture this beautiful butterfly,” Cyrus added. “Right when he did is when the butterfly came and landed right on the tip of his nose. And this song, ‘Flowers’ is my butterfly. Thank you.” Towards the end of the night, Miley picked up the Grammy for ‘Endless Summer Vacation’ for Record of the Year.

With over 1.7 billion streams on Spotify, breaking the record for most streams in a single week with more than 100 million plays, and the track staying in the Billboard Hot 100 for a whopping 49 weeks – ‘Flowers’ has become Miley’s biggest song. The singer also performed her Billboard Hot 100 chart topper at the Grammys for the very first time on television and also screamed out “I just won my first Grammy” during her performance.

## Paramore Becomes the First Female-Led Outfit to Win “Best Rock Album”

Hayley Williams fronted rock band, formed about two decades ago, took home their Best Rock Album Grammy win for their sixth studio album, ‘This Is Why.’ The last time a woman picked the Best Rock Album trophy was Sheryl Crow in 1999 for ‘The Globe Sessions.’ While Paramore is the first female-led band to take the award home, Hayley is only the second woman ever to win the Best Rock Album Grammy. The trio, made up of Hayley Williams, Taylor York, and Zac Farro, didn’t attend the award ceremony but shared a post on Instagram posing with a cake that had a “:) Winner” icing on it. In addition to Best Rock Album, Paramore was also honored with a Best Alternative Music Performance award for ‘This Is Why.’

## Taylor Swift Announces New Album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’

A new album from Taylor Swift is officially on the way! The superstar took the Grammy stage to announce her eleventh studio album ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ out April 19, while accepting her 13th Grammy award for Best Pop Vocal Album (‘Midnights’). “I want to say thank you to the members of the Recording Academy for voting this way. But I know that the way that the Recording Academy voted is a direct reflection of the passion of the fans. So I want to say thank you to the fans by telling you a secret that I’ve been keeping from you for the last two years, which is that my brand new album comes out on April 19,” Taylor said.

Swift has received a whopping 52 Grammy nods in her career. Her win for ‘Midnights’ was her lucky number – the thirteenth Grammy award. The singer, as she mentioned in her acceptance speech, shared the cover art of the upcoming album along with a note on social media. “We lie awake in love and in fear, in turmoil and in tears. We stare at walls and drink until they speak back. We twist in our self-made cages and pray that we aren’t — right this minute — about to make some fateful life-altering mistake. This is a collection of music written in the middle of the night, a journey through terrors and sweet dreams. The floors we pace and the demons we face. For all of us who have tossed and turned and decided to keep the lanterns lit and go searching — hoping that just maybe, when the clock strikes twelve…we’ll meet ourselves,” the note [read](https://www.instagram.com/p/C28vsIzO_bL/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link).

The singer’s album ‘Midnights’ was also named the Album of the Year at the ceremony. Taylor now holds the most Album of the Year Grammy awards in her award collection – she is the only artist who has won four Grammy awards for Album of the Year for ‘1989,’ ‘Folklore,’ ‘Fearless,’ and the latest ‘Midnights.’

## Tracy Chapman Brought the House Down at the Grammys With Luke Combs

Tracy Chapman appeared on the Grammy stage for a very rare and special performance of ‘Fast Car’ with Luke Combs. Chapman originally penned and performed ‘Fast Car’ in 1988. Both artists, who graced the Grammy stage for the very first time to perform the song, delivered a beautiful rendition of the original version of the timeless tune. North Carolina-born-and-raised country music singer-songwriter Luke Combs shared the cover of Tracy Chapman’s hit song ‘Fat Car’ in April 2023.

Tracy and Luke’s performance of the track at the Grammys this year elicited thunderous applause from the audience at the Crypto.com Arena. Tracy took home the Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female Grammy award for the song in 1989. This year, Combs received a Grammy nod for Best Country Solo Performance for the cover of Tracy Chapman’s ‘Fast Car’. Tracy’s ‘Fat Car’ peaked at number 6 on Billboard Hot 100 while Luke’s cover stood at number 1 on the chart for 4 weeks. Other notable performances include Joni Mitchell taking the Grammy stage for the very first time and Billy Joel performing for the first time in 30 years.

## Jay-Z Honored With The Dr. Dre Global Impact Award

Jay-Z hit the Grammys stage to receive his Dr. Dre Global Impact award at the 2024 ceremony. “How far we have come with Will Smith, Jazzy Jeff the Fresh Prince winning their first Grammy in ’89 and boycotting, because it was not televised. And then they went to a hotel to watch the Grammys. I don’t even understand, it was not a great boycott,” he said. “But then in ’98, I took a page out of their book and was nominated for best rap album. And DMX dropped two albums that yeae, they both were number one, and he wasn’t nominated at all. So I boycotted and I watched the Grammys. I’m just saying, we want you all to get it right. We love y’all, we love y’all. We want you to get it right — or at least get it close to right. And obviously, it’s subjective, because it’s music and its opinion-based, but some things..”

““I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone and never won album of the year. So even by your own metrics, that doesn’t work. Think about that. The most Grammys, never won album of the year. That doesn’t work,” he called out the Grammys. “Some of you may go home tonight and feel like you’ve been robbed. Some of you may get robbed. Some of you don’t even belong in a category.” Jay-Z has received 88 Grammy nominations in his career so far and has taken home 24 Grammy awards, while his wife Beyoncé is the most-nominated female artist in Grammy history and is also the most decorated Grammy award winner.

## Stevie Wonder, Annie Lennox, and Job Batiste Deliver a Stunning Tribute Performance

Stevie Wonder, Scottish singer-songwriter Annie Lennox, and 5-time Grammy winner Jon Batiste were tapped for a tribute performance to honor the artists we lost. As Annie’s rendition of Irish singer-songwriter Sinéad O’Connor’s ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’ was coming to an end, she called for a ceasefire in Gaza. More than 27,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 66,000 injured since October 7. She raised a fist in the air and said, “Artists for Ceasefire. Peace in the world,” a fitting tribute to Sinéad’s legacy as an activist.

Indie supergroup boygenius, who were nominated for six Grammy awards, arrived at the red carpet donning Thom Browne white suits with red pins with the logo for Artists for Ceasefire Now in Gaza. It is a collective of artists, actors, and advocates calling for a ceasefire in Gaza. Dua Lipa, Bella Hadid, Zayn Malik, Kehlani, and many others have signed the Artists Call for Ceasefire Now petition sent to US President Joe Biden.

## Taylor Swift, Billie Eilish, Miley Cyrus, and Victoria Monét Win The Big 4!

Victoria Monét has won the coveted Best New Artist award at the Grammys. Pop star Billie Eilish’s ‘What Was I Made For?’ recorded for Greta Gerwig’s motion picture ‘Barbie’ was crowned the Song of the Year winning against fellow nominees – ‘A&W,’ ‘Anti-Hero,’ ‘Butterfly,’ ‘Dance The Night,’ ‘Flowers,’ ‘Kill Bill,’ and ‘Vampire,’ while Miley Cyrus picked up her second Grammy win of the night for Record of the Year (‘Flowers’).

## Victoria Monét Wins Best New Artist

Victoria Monét, who may have penned some of your favorite tracks, has finally received her flowers from the Grammys. The ‘On My Mama’ singer was named the Best New Artist at the 2024 Grammy Awards beating out artists Gracie Abrams, Fred again.., Ice Spice, Jelly Roll, Coco Jones, Noah Kahan, and The War And Treaty. Monét became the first female R&B artist to win the Grammy for Best New Artist since Alicia Keys in 2002. She began her acceptance speech by expressing her gratitude to the Recording Academy voters saying: “This is because of you guys. You guys pressed that button. We were in your emails. Thank you so much. Thank you to my mom, a single mom raising this really bad girl. Thank you so much. I just want to say to everybody who has a dream, I want you to look at this as an example.”

“Thank you, God … This award was a 15-year pursuit. I moved to L.A. in 2009, and I like to liken myself to a plant who was planted. And you can look at the music industry as soil, and it can be looked at as dirty, or it can be looked at as a source of nutrients and water. My roots have been growing underneath ground unseen for so long. And I feel like today, I’m sprouting finally above ground. I’d like to thank my team of visionaries who could see through that soil.”

“There was a binder that I made to take this really important meeting out of label, and I thought I was going to be signed and I was an independent artist with no team, and I just thought, ‘Maybe my music would stand for itself.’ But that binder left collecting dust in her office and a label, and Rachelle found that binder and she decided to take a chance, leave that label and be my manager. So thank you so much for seeing me,” she said of her manager, Rachelle.

## Billie Eilish Snags The Song Of The Year Trophy

Billie Eilish reigned supreme in the Song Of The Year category, taking home the gramophone for the tear-jerker ‘What Was I Made For?’ for the blockbuster ‘Barbie.’ The track became the first song from a movie to win the Song Of The Year since Celine Dion’s ‘My Heart Will Go On’ from the iconic 1997 film ‘Titanic.’ “That’s stupid guys. That was a crazy list of incredible people, incredible artists, incredible music. I feel crazy right now. I’m shocked out of my balls. Thank you to the members of the Recording Academy, thank you to my brother who’s my best friend in the world and makes me the person that I am today,” the singer revealed.

“We’re so lucky. We just continue to be just deeply, deeply privileged, lucky people. And it’s hard to feel deserving ever, but we certainly don’t right now. We’re very humble, and we’re very grateful. Thank you so much,” added Finneas. Billie boasts 25 Grammy nominations under her belt and has so far added nine to her collection.

## 2024 – The Year of Women

As you may have noticed, women have dominated music in the past year, and all four awards of the main category were won by women – Victoria Monét, Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift, and Miley Cyrus. Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Victoria Monét, and Billie Eilish picked up two awards each, whereas SZA and boygenius won three awards, respectively. Karol G’s ‘MAÑANA SERÁ BONITO’ was named the Best Música Urbana Album Grammy Award, ‘Padam Padam’ by Kylie Minogue was the Best Pop Dance Recording, Coco Jones’ ‘ICU’ received the Best R&B Performance prize, ‘Bell Bottom Country’ by Lainey Wilson was named the Best Country Album, and Tyla won the first Best African Music Performance award for ‘Water.’ This is an outstanding fete for Tyla, whose first-ever award is a Grammy. Women truly killed it this year!
