A serial club-trotter and festival regular across Indonesia is Bali-based drum & bass, jungle, and bass music aficionado artist Rizkycore.

Born and bred in Bandung, Indonesia, **Rizkycore** started his drum & bass journey in music in 2003 after latching on to the rhythm from Goldie’s ‘Inner City Life’ (1994) featuring singer Diane Charlemagne. Alongside his skateboarding pursuits, Rizkycore had his sights set on becoming a DJ in 2004.

One of his first jaunts in Bali arrived in 2010 as an attendee of the two-day [Paradise in Bali](https://www.last.fm/festival/1658125+PARADISE+IN+BALI+-+A+2+Days+DNB+Festival#:~:text=JUNGLE%20BOX%20proudly%20brings%20you,on%2014%20%26%2015%20November%202010.) drum & bass festival, buzzing with the likes of Black Sun Empire, Stamina MC, Makoto, The Upbeats, and Netsky. His eventual relocation to Bali in 2017 proved to be a fruitful one, as Rizkycore forged his relationship with various local promoters and went on to cement himself as one of the pillars of the electronic music scene in Bali.

His nearly two-decade career, twined with hard work, persistence, and a pure affection for drum & bass, has led him to support industry heavyweights such as Andy C, Ryota, Yung Singh, Salute, General Levy, Wilkinson, and, most recently, [Fred Again](https://www.instagram.com/p/DMIYjxdy9yS/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==) for his [Asia debut tour](https://www.ticketfairy.com/word/2025/05/27/fred-again-to-embark-on-debut-asia-tour-in-july-2025).

We caught up with the artist from his home in Bali on the heels of his second appearance at LOCUS Bali and his appearance at Savaya Bali opening for Fred Again.

## “An unforgettable moment in my life.”

Rizkycore’s experience at [LOCUS 2025](https://www.ticketfairy.com/word/2025/06/09/spotlighting-artists-you-should-see-at-locus-bali-2025) was certainly unforgettable. His one-word description, “Wooow,” said it all! He expressed, “Day one was such an unforgettable moment in my life. Watching Fabio & Grooverider with The Outlook Orchestra was a goosebump-inducing experience – I could feel tears trickle down my face.”

“They took us on a musical journey through the history of drum and bass, playing iconic tracks like ‘The Lighter,’ ‘The Nine,’ ‘Sweet Love,’ and ‘LK.’ The whole experience was so well prepared and perfect. The energy still resonates with me to this day.”

Talking about his performance at The Cave during the festival, Rizkycore played just after UK drum & bass royalty Klute and Stamina MC, whose performance Rizkycore hailed as “an absolute banger.” For Rizkycore, these set transitions help him create a lasting memory. He recalled, “Before Stamina MC exited the stage, I asked if he’d sing his legendary track ‘Hypercaine,’ and I couldn’t believe it when he agreed. It was an honor to perform a song I’ve loved for 15 years with the original singer.”

To wrap up our discussion on LOCUS Bali, he said, “On the final day, I was amazed to be performing back-to-back with any of the legends on the Mainstage closing set.”

## “And I’m thinking this is the right choice of music for me.”

We talked to the artist about how he first started his journey into music and eventually drum & bass. As a child, he told us, he was always listening to disco/soul music while his father drove him to school, playing works by [Larry Levan](https://open.spotify.com/album/1fkMUX3lpOJqFJBT8J6lDO), who was known for his decade-long residency at the New York City nightclub Paradise Garage. The infectious beats and underground vibe of these early sounds laid the groundwork for his future exploration of electronic music.

He shared, “In 2003**,** I got hooked on drum & bass. I listened to Goldie’s “Inner City Life” (1994) and “Before Today” (1996) from Everything But The Girl. It resonated deeply with me, and I’m thinking this is the right choice of music for me.” His first DJ set took place around 2004, and he arranged a session with industrial, experimental, and jungle music.

When asked about a B2B bout with his musical influences, Rizkycore picks late English DnB great and [Drum&BassArena](https://awards.breakbeat.co.uk/2018/hall-of-fame/) Hall of Famer, Marcus Intalex. The artist voiced, “Marcus Intalex’s music is so emotional to me; thus, I would really like to perform with him b2b if he were still alive. Since I’ve been listening to S.P.Y.’s music since around 2006, I really want to share the deck with him.”

Outside of these manifestations, Rizkycore’s ultimate career goal is to take the stage at Glastonbury Festival, a milestone that would mark a crowning moment of his career.

## “Honestly, Bali is the right place for me.”

Reflecting on Bali’s music scene, Rizkycore praised its inclusive and accepting vibe. “Honestly, Bali is the right place for me. I moved here in 2017 and never looked back. Now, I work as a full-time DJ, playing a variety of genres including disco, rare grooves, soul, funk, and house music for residencies.”

Spotlighting some of the folks that made him feel welcome, he stated, “I’ve got good friends in Bali, some of whom I met way back in 2010 when I came to the Paradise in Bali drum & bass festival. Working with the [Bali Drum & Bass](https://www.instagram.com/balidrumnbass/?hl=en) crew, including Dunnie, [Mistral,](https://www.instagram.com/djmistralbali/?hl=en) and [Jonskee MC](https://www.instagram.com/jonskee_/?hl=en), has been a blast.”

Responding to our query of how the music landscape in Bali has evolved through the years, the artist remarked, “What I love about Bali’s music landscape is its diversity and openness. The venues respect the music, and the island attracts a wide range of big-name DJs and festivals. From Balearic house to disco, experimental noise to industrial, and EDM to trance, Bali’s music scene accepts all music. “

## “I’m hoping to release some new drum & bass music this year.”

When he’s not spinning tracks, Rizkycore enjoys tinkering with cars and cooking for his family. “I genuinely enjoy working on vehicles and fixing them myself,” he said with a laugh. In the kitchen, he loves whipping up simple Indonesian dishes for his kids, who adore his cooking. “It’s a great way for me to relax and spend quality time with my loved ones.”

Rizkycore took his fondness for cooking to the next level in 2025, launching [Bakmie Yamien A’iki](https://www.instagram.com/p/DIQVmsFpGO7/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==), his noodle restaurant. As a native of Bandung, known for its delicious Sundanese cuisine, he couldn’t find noodles that met his expectations when he moved to Bali. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he started experimenting with recipes in his home kitchen, selling food items to his friends. This hobby eventually evolved into his noodle shop or *warung* venture.

The artist elaborated on this experience and expressed, “I began selling my noodles to friends from home, but had to pause when my DJ career picked up again. I restarted my noodle venture and built a small shop, which is now thriving. I love cooking and sharing the flavors of my hometown, Bandung, which is known for being spicy and sweet.”

“Cooking is actually my third hobby, after DJing and working on cars! The name ‘A’iki’ comes from Sundanese, where ‘A’ means brother, and ‘Iki’ is a nod to my name.”

Lastly, we checked with Rizkycore on what the rest of the year looks like. He conveyed, “I’m excited to get back into music production in 2025, as it’s been a while since I’ve released new tracks – my last production was back in 2011! I’ve been working on some projects with friends and MCs, and I’m hoping to release some new Drum & Bass music this year.”
