# Fill your free events with guests who actually come

Free tickets cost you and your guests nothing. With Freefund, guests leave a refundable deposit as they RSVP and get it back at check-in, so each booking counts.

## Fill free events with guests who turn up

At a free launch party or meetup, your food, staff and sponsor numbers depend on the guests who arrive. Freefund lets you offer free entry backed by a refundable deposit.

Guests pay the deposit as they book. Your door team scans them in, and the deposit goes straight back to their card. Only the tickets nobody used are charged, so the people who come pay nothing and every RSVP counts.

Freefund can cover all admission tickets at once, or one ticket type, such as a free RSVP alongside a paid VIP ticket. You choose the deposit: large enough to put off people who book with no plan to come, and small enough that nobody hesitates.

Your event page can describe your tickets as free entry for attendees who check in, backed by a refundable deposit, so buyers know exactly what they are agreeing to before they pay.

Time-slot events work the same way. With Freefund on for the whole event, each time-slot ticket carries a refundable deposit too, so a free museum day or a timed open house fills its slots with people who arrive.

Your event page carries your own artwork, details and ticket types. Guests get their confirmation and ticket as soon as they RSVP, and your door list shows who booked and who your door team checked in.

Free tickets carry no ticketing fee, for you or your guests.

- **Refundable deposit**: the ticket price comes back at check-in
- **All admission tickets or one**: the whole event or a single ticket type
- **Confirmation recorded**: who agreed the terms, and when

## Give guests their deposit back as they walk in

Attendees walk in knowing their money is on its way back. Your door team scans each ticket as its attendee arrives.

An eligible attendee hears straight away that the deposit is going back to their card. Each ticket in an order counts on its own. Friends who come get their deposit back, and only the tickets nobody used are charged.

You decide what counts as turning up: throughout the event, a specific time, or a time relative to the start or end, such as two hours after the event starts. A guest who arrives after your deadline still gets in, and you keep their deposit.

Where the card allows it, Ticket Fairy holds the deposits on the buyer's card. We charge only the tickets your door team has not scanned by your deadline. Most guests who come are never charged at all.

- **Back at the door**: the guest hears as soon as they are scanned
- **Check-in deadline**: throughout the event or a time you choose
- **Each ticket on its own**: friends who come get theirs back

## Launch a free event with deposits in minutes

The Freefund RSVP template gives you a free event with deposits already in place, with the Freefund setting for all admission tickets and a refundable deposit ticket type. You enter the deposit as the ticket price, and your event page is ready to publish. Fai, the AI teammate in your dashboard, can also set which tickets should be free at check-in.

She sets the deadline, shows you exactly what Ticket Fairy charges and asks for your approval, which records your confirmation.

In the Ticket Fairy mobile app, you can also turn Freefund on for the event and choose its check-in deadline. The app marks each ticket type that gives its price back at check-in and keeps its deposit locked. Nobody on your team changes a deposit by mistake after guests have booked.

- **Freefund RSVP template**: deposits set up from the start
- **Switched on by Fai**: after you approve what is charged

## Earn from your livestream, with its own event page

You sell tickets to an online event just as you do for any other. It can have its own event page, dates, time zone and currency, and you can use the same ticket types, releases and [promo codes](https://www.ticketfairy.com/event-ticketing/event-promo-codes) as at a venue.

Buyers check out on your event page or in the checkout on your own website, and your sales appear in the same reports as your other events.

You can stream from the service you already use. With your Zoom account connected, you create the meeting from your event and set the meeting password, waiting room, mute upon entry and recording the way you run your sessions. For YouTube, Twitch or Facebook, you add the stream code to your event, or the embed code for any other service, and you can preview the stream before you sell.

You can also pick a session you already scheduled in Zoom from the meetings in your connected account instead of creating a new one, or switch to another Zoom account when a different host runs the session. Attendees can join before the host when you want the room full by the time you start.

- **Zoom meetings**: created from your event
- **YouTube, Twitch and Facebook**: or the embed code from any stream
- **Usual ticketing tools**: releases, promo codes and reports

## Give each viewer a link and a way to donate as they watch

Each ticket has its own watch link. A buyer signs in to watch, and the link stays with the account that opened it first.

A forwarded link does not let a second viewer in. Viewers watch on a page with your event's artwork, and viewers who want to give more donate while they watch.

A reminder email on a date you set, or a number of minutes before the stream starts, brings viewers back in time. Until you go live, the watch page shows your pre-event content, an image or a holding stream, so viewers who arrive early know they are in the right place.

Donations can be an amount the viewer chooses, with a minimum if you want one, or buttons for the fixed amounts you add. Viewers donate from the watch page and from their order page, each donor gets a thank-you email, and you get paid the same way as for your ticket sales.

- **One ticket, one viewer**: a watch link that stays with its buyer
- **Reminder emails**: viewers back in time for the start
- **Donations**: any amount or the amounts you set

## How you can use free and online event tickets

- ### A free community meetup

A community organizer runs a free monthly meetup with a small refundable deposit on each RSVP. Most people who book now come, and they get their deposits back at the door.

The community organizer orders food for the number they can count on.
- ### A free launch party with sponsors

A brand launch offers free entry with Freefund on the general ticket and a paid VIP ticket alongside.

The sponsor gets a guest count it can trust, and late arrivals after the deadline still get in.
- ### A livestreamed concert

A venue streams a sold-out show on YouTube and sells online tickets alongside the room. Each viewer watches from their own link, and donations from the people watching pay the crew.
- ### An online workshop on Zoom

A trainer creates the Zoom meeting from the event, with a waiting room and recording on. She sends a reminder an hour before the start.

Each attendee joins from the link on their own ticket.
- ### A school open evening and concert

A school takes free bookings for its open evening and sells tickets to its end-of-term concert from the same account.

Families book online on each event page, and the door team scans each ticket as they arrive.

## Questions About Free and Online Event Tickets

### Free & online events

#### Is each Freefund deposit charged at checkout?

When a card hold can stay in place until the event ends, Ticket Fairy holds one amount for the order. It later charges only the deposits for tickets not scanned by the deadline. Otherwise the card is charged at checkout, and each eligible ticket is refunded when your door team scans it. The card issuer can take several days to show a released hold or a refund.

#### What do I need to use Freefund?

Card payments for each currency your event uses, and an event with a start and end time. A deadline you choose has to fall between them, and any deposit above zero works.

#### Does changing Freefund affect people who already booked?

No. Each purchase keeps the Freefund terms the buyer agreed at checkout, so a change applies to later purchases. Table types keep their own payment settings.

#### Which streaming services can I use for an online event?

With Zoom, you connect your Zoom account and create the meeting from Ticket Fairy. With YouTube, Twitch and Facebook, you add the stream code. Any other streaming service works through its embed code.

#### Do online viewers need an account to watch?

Yes. A buyer signs in when they open their watch link, and the link then belongs to their account. Anyone who opens the same link from a different account goes back to your event page.

#### Can I sell free tickets to an online event?

Yes. Create a free ticket type, and each guest still gets their own watch link on their ticket.

#### How am I paid for donations?

Donations go through the same payment processing account as the ticket sales for that event, in the event's currency.

#### Is free event ticketing really free?

Yes. You sell free tickets with no attendee fees, so they cost nothing for you or your guests. Guests book on your event page, so you need no separate [RSVP website](https://www.ticketfairy.com/features/ticket-types-and-pricing/free-and-online-events).

#### Can I sell paid tickets beside free ones?

Yes, on the same event page. Choose Added on your event, and buyers pay the ticketing fee on top of your ticket price, so you keep the full ticket price. Free tickets carry no ticketing fee.

#### What do I get for free?

Your own event page where guests book, a ticket for each guest that your door team scans with the Entry Fairy app, and reports of who booked and who came. Add a refundable deposit with Freefund, or sell your livestream with a watch link for each viewer.

#### Does Ticket Fairy take a commission from my ticket price?

No. You sell free tickets without fees, and nothing is charged per ticket to you or your guests. Add paid tickets and each new event starts with Added: buyers pay the ticketing fee, they see one all-inclusive price on your event page, and you receive your full ticket price. The fee comes out of what you receive only if you choose Absorbed.
