Dussehra celebrates the victory of Lord Ramachandra over the demon king Ravana in the great battle of Lanka, a pastime told in the epic Ramayana. The name comes from dus, meaning “ten”, and hara, meaning “annihilated”, and refers to the defeat of the ten-headed Ravana. Join us at Bhaktivedanta Manor for a festival in the truest sense, with something for everyone. Enjoy a full stage programme of dramas, dances, kirtan and music, browse the bazaar’s wide range of devotional items, and pick up snacks at our popular food tent. Children can enjoy games and activities in the children’s area, everyone can visit our cows and collect gifts, and free meals are served throughout the day. Don’t miss the burning of the giant Ravana effigy. This year there are two burnings, at 12:30pm and 5:30pm, so you can catch one whenever you visit. Most importantly, come for darshan of Their Lordships Sri Sri Sita Rama Laxman Hanuman. Chant, meditate on Lord Rama, and come together with friends and family to mark this most auspicious occasion.
