FULL SCHEDULE

SOUTHERN AIR TEMPLE
(top floor)

All Night in Front Kitchen:
Freshly made meals (with vegan and gluten-free options), young coconuts, chai, hot chocolate, kava-colada, chocolate treats, snacks, and more.

7:30pm-8pm: Opening Ceremony by Troy Dayton
After two years of not being able to gather the way we want, we no longer take it for granted. Please join us to set a container that brings our attention to the magic of the moment we are in and the remarkable humans that we will share this evening with.

8pm-9pm: Malian Dance Class by Mariam Diakite
Ms. Diakité is the dynamic front-woman for Orchestra Gold (playing at 11:30pm). Mariam will help you learn the dance, rhythms and songs of Mali, focused on “Oldstyle” Malian dances rooted in ceremonial practice. Watch this video about Mariam’s dance. Space is limited. First-come, first-served.

9pm-11pm: Buncrana (Irish Folk)
Celebrating a belated St. Patrick’s Day, this “session” will feature the Bay Area's top Irish folk talent: Autumn Rhodes, Timothy Hill, Will Wheeler, Briana Di Mara, and more. They will be sharing lively tunes on fiddle, guitar, harp, uilleann pipes, bodhrán, concertina, and more! Deirdre Stretton will offer an Irish dance performance. Deirde dances with Siamsa le Cheile, and teaches at the McBride School of Irish Dance.

11pm-11:30pm: Musical Interlude

11:30pm-1:30am: Orchestra Gold (Malian Psychedelic Rock)
It’s 1976 and you just stepped inside a smokey club in Bamako, Mali. The air is thick with the gritty analog sounds of funky folkloric music, psychedelic guitar swirling with jazzy horns and hypnotic bass. As the crowd shakes their bell bottoms to the infectious grooves, the singer commands the stage with her soulful vocals and dance moves that give James Brown a run for his money. This is the vibe that Oakland’s own Orchestra Gold creates in their live shows as well as their recordings.

1:30am-3:00am: dj warble
dj warble (oshan anand) warble will be weaving a magical musical collage of world folk music styles with an emphasis on post-genre orchestrations and dub-inspired dance.

3:00am-Late: DJ Black Camel (Morocco)
DJ Black Camel plays world-folk inspired electronic music. He’s the mystery DJ who’s been playing at the end of our recent parties. This is your last chance to dance with him before he returns to Morocco, so let’s send him home in style.

All Night in Back Room: Divine Chaos Sound Healing Lounge & Tea
Sip gourmet tea served ceremonially while basking in a peaceful womb of ambient healing sound. This is an open jam, bring bowls, bells, gongs, chimes, handpans, harps, didgeridoos, and voices.

FIRE DRAGON DEN (bottom floor)

7:30pm-9:30pm: Daniel Fríes (Flamenco Guitar)
Daniel Fries is one of the premier flamenco guitarists in the San Francisco Bay Area, both as an accompanist for flamenco song and dance, and as a soloist. He has performed with many world class and local flamenco artists. While his playing style remains grounded in the roots of the traditional Spanish flamenco, he also explores new directions in musical composition as well as blending of elements from the various musical traditions around which he grew up in San Francisco; Indian, Middle Eastern, Latin American, and African.

9:30pm-11:30pm: IMAGINE:Nation (Malian Folk)
Featuring Malian Kora virtuoso Karamo Susso (Toumani Diabate, Ballake Sissoko), globe-trotting percussionist Robert "Bobby" Wallace (Bonnie Raitt, Margareth Menezes, Airto Moreira), and innovative guitarist Nicco Tyson (Malikan, Studio Nanou), IMAGINE:Nation creates a lush tapestry of ancient Malian songs, acoustic soul songs exploring current life in Oakland, and daring improvisation.

We also run a large Facebook group, World Folk Music and Dance (Bay Area), to help the community publicize its events.
