7:30pm: Bellydance Class by Jill Parker
Jill Parker is known the world over as a pioneer in the fusion and folk bellydance genres. She was an original FatChanceBellyDance member and later founded her own trailblazing dance theater company that birthed many of today's great fusion dancers. For more than three decades, Jill has honed a masterful delivery method that truly facilitates breakthroughs for dancers of all skill levels. She is a generous teacher with a rare gift for demystifying this sensuous form by meticulously and effectively breaking down complex movements to their essentials and making the technique, nuances, and fluent embodiment accessible. Space is limited! First come first served.
9pm: La Mixta Criolla (Afro-Puerto Rican)
La Mixta Criolla is a dynamic music and dance ensemble founded by percussionist, singer, songwriter Hector Lugo. The group's distinctive sound balances the color and range of the Puerto Rican and the Venezuelan cuatros, the bass guitar, and the accordion, with the percussive drive of the barrel shaped Bomba drums, the panderos of the Plena, and the güícharo - bongó tandem of the Música Jíbara of the Puerto Rican countryside. Firmly rooted in Puerto Rico's rich musical culture and inspired by the soulfulness of Caribbean music, La Mixta Criolla delivers performances of singular strength and passion to the delight of dancers and music lovers everywhere.
11pm: Bay Area Balkan Brass (Eastern European)
Bay Area Balkan Brass is a collective of members from some of the top Balkan Brass bands in the San Francisco Bay Area. This six piece super band - playing music from Serbia, Macedonia, Turkey and beyond - will make you dance like you’re at a wedding in the Balkans.
1am: La Zuli & Special Guests (North African/Spanish/Balkan)
La Zuli combines the virtuosic talents of violinist Briana Di Mara and guitarist Anis Sehiri. The music they create is influenced by folk genres from Spain to North Africa to the Balkans and beyond. They use live looping to create many layers of unique sound. For this concert they will be joined by Josh Melinger on percussion.
La Zuli will be accompanied by a dance performance by Jill Parker, world-renowned as a pioneer in the fusion and folk bellydance genres.
2:30am: DJ Neptune (world folktronica)
For over 30 years Neptune has been an avid collector of tunes across the entire musical spectrum, compiling one of the most vast and eclectic collections in the world. As a Sonic Shaman Neptune continues to develop the art of transforming people through Music as he guides the dancer into their Bodies, awakening Emotions, and calling upon their Spirits. Through the Magic and Mystery of a Sonic Journey, he helps to create a Musical Map of the Soul’s Evolution.

Through these World Folk Jams, we seek to support and promote this community in a number of ways. Our events provide a space for professional networking and creative collaboration. We hire many performers for our events and pay them competitive rates, and we are building a gig referral network to connect event producers and performers. We also run a large Facebook group, World Folk Music and Dance (Bay Area), to help the community publicize its events.
