About 815 8 Ave SW #100
815 8 Ave SW #100 in downtown Calgary is home to Chi-Cha Lounge & Bar , a hookah lounge and bar in the Panarctic Plaza building . It specializes in premium hookah (shisha) and Latin American fusion cuisine, offering dishes like ceviche, empanadas and Peruvian classics (Lomo Saltado, arroz con pollo) . The venue blends traditional hookah culture with a modern lounge vibe – its website even calls it “the ultimate destination for a captivating and immersive hookah experience in the heart of downtown Calgary” . The space can accommodate large gatherings (the lounge advertises capacity “100+ Guests” for events) . Located at 815 8 Ave SW (Panarctic Plaza, Calgary AB T2P 2T4) , the lounge sits just blocks from Calgary’s trendy Beltline neighborhood and busy 17th Avenue dining district . It’s often described by visitors as a “vibrant destination” with a cozy atmosphere for socializing , mixing warm lounge decor and mood lighting with live or recorded music.
Events and Programming
Chi-Cha Lounge hosts a mix of nightlife and cultural events. Typical programming includes weekend DJ nights, R&B/soul music evenings and themed parties. For example, local event listings show they hosted a “Beirut In Calgary” Lebanese-themed party in May 2025 www.ticketfairy.com , and they have advertised upcoming live performers (such as Punjabi singer Jassa Dhillon for Halloween 2025). These events often draw hundreds of people (the ticket page even noted “210 are going” for one party www.ticketfairy.com ). Regular nights usually feature house or dance music with hookah service, often with no cover charge. However, special performances or ethnic music events sometimes require tickets or a cover fee (minor cover charges are common at lounges). The lounge’s marketing emphasizes live music and hookah – for example, their corporate event page highlights “Live Music” and a range of shisha flavors for booked events . Ultimately, Chi-Cha’s calendar is eclectic: from quiet midweek lounges for hookah lovers to lively weekend parties celebrating global DJ mixes or cultural themes.
Tickets and Booking
Chi-Cha Lounge typically does not sell standard tickets at a box office. Most events or themed nights are promoted on social media or ticketing sites (Eventbrite/Showpass) and are “door sales” at the venue. For major shows or headliners, you’ll often need to buy tickets online in advance; smaller club nights or DJ sets usually have no advance charge. If an event is ticketed, prices tend to vary by performer (most special events in similar venues range roughly $20–$50). For group bookings or guaranteed seating, the lounge accepts reservations for tables and parties – you can call the lounge at +1-403-371-9909 or fill out the reservation form on their website . Weekday evenings and casual hookah sessions usually do not require tickets – just arrive before closing time. For busy weekends or stampede nights, arrive early or reserve a table. Check Chi-Cha’s Facebook/Instagram or local event calendars for announcements of upcoming shows or guest DJs.
Seating and Layout
The lounge’s layout is intimate and multi-zoned. Inside Chi-Cha, you’ll find plush banquettes, padded booths and low tables arranged banquet-style for hookah sessions. There’s also a full-service bar with stools for cocktail drinkers. Many tables are designed for groups (for sharing hookah), though you can also sit at the bar. Lighting is subdued and color-changing, which reviewers note creates a relaxed ambience . The club has no permanent concert stage, so sightlines are generally good from most spots – a DJ or performer is easily visible from the seating areas. The best vantage points depend on your mood: seating near the bar puts you at the center of activity, while booths along the walls are quiet and suit conversation. Note that the music/sound system can be loud; during DJ nights it’s highest near the sound booth, so if you prefer softer music, a seat farther from the speakers is wise. Reviews mention the seating is comfortable and the bathrooms are clean , so the space is geared toward groups who want to relax together. The venue does not generally restrict seating by ticket tier – it’s mostly general admission/lounge seating. If you want a particular spot, coming early is recommended on busy nights.
Getting There and Parking
Chi-Cha Lounge is located at 815 8th Ave SW, near the corner of 9th Street in downtown Calgary . It’s easy to reach by various transit or car. By bus, Route 1 and 3 (and several others) have stops on 7th and 8th Avenues just a block north, and the Beltline’s central CTrain stations (Downtown West/Kerby and City Hall on the Red/Blue lines) are a 5–10 minute walk away . Drivers can use 9th Avenue for convenient downtown access . For parking, the Panarctic Plaza building has a large underground lot (134 heated reserved stalls) , but these are mostly for tenants. Visitors typically rely on metered on-street parking on 8th and 9th Ave, or nearby pay lots. There are also surface lots within a short walk (e.g. on 7th St or the Memorial Park Parkade). Rideshare or taxi drop-offs are common in this busy downtown area – simply be aware of rush-hour traffic. In good weather, walking or a short bike ride is also possible, since Memorial Park and Stampede grounds are only several blocks away. Overall, transit-friendly Chi-Cha is best reached by whichever method avoids downtown parking hassles – for example, take the CTrain to 8th Ave and walk one block south .
Inside the Venue
Upon entering, expect soft security and friendly staff. The door team will check IDs (you must be 18+ since hookah involves tobacco) but typically there’s no forced dress code beyond standard club attire (smart casual is safe). Once inside, the atmosphere is cozy yet lively – dim LED lights bounce off art on exposed-brick walls, and distant music sets a party mood. Hookah pipes (shisha) are a centerpiece: staff help set up your chosen flavors at the table when you order. The drink menu includes beers, wines and cocktails – signature offerings like the Pisco Sour or fruit-infused drinks complement the Latin-themed menu . Bar seating is available for those ordering drinks only, while most guests sit at cushioned lounge tables for hookah. There is no formal coat check, but staff may sit jackets on a bench or rack near the entrance. The venue offers free Wi-Fi to patrons. Restrooms are located inside (away from the bar) and are noted in reviews to be well-maintained . A service bar counter allows ordering drinks without leaving your table (common in hookah lounges). Photography and phone use are typically allowed, though many guests prefer to relax without screens. The overall vibe is one of laid-back nightlife – expect friendly bartenders, attentive service for your hookah and quiet lighting perfect for conversation until dancing really begins late at night.
Nearby Amenities
The lounge is surrounded by plenty of pre- and post-show options. A Vietnamese restaurant is located on the ground floor of the same building . Just blocks north and east, the Beltline neighborhood and 17th Avenue offer dozens of restaurants and bars – everything from Asian fusion and Mexican fare to gastropubs and Irish pubs. If you want a meal before your visit, consider Cambodian Curry on 8th St SW or sushi bars on 17th Ave. For drinks, nearby pubs include local spots like Grey Eagle Taproom or the dive-style Rose & Crown. Late-night eats are also abundant; pizza parlors and fast-casual spots on nearby streets stay open late into the night. There are several hotels within a short walk (e.g. the Delta Calgary City Centre on 7 Ave SW, the Marriott on 5 Ave SW, and smaller downtown inns) for out-of-town guests or those staying late. Calgary’s free greenway trail and Memorial Park are a couple blocks away for a daytime stroll. (Note: busy downtown nights can lead to lineups at popular spots, so budget extra time if visiting multiple venues.) In summary, 815 8 Ave is in the heart of Calgary’s entertainment zone with restaurants, nightlife and transit all within easy reach.
What Makes This Venue Special
Chi-Cha Lounge stands out as one of Calgary’s few hookah-centric nightspots, offering an experience unlike typical bars. Its blend of Middle Eastern and Latin themes creates a distinct cultural fusion – a social space where patrons gather over shisha under a pulsating club soundtrack. Branding professionals even call it a “vibrant social hotspot” with a “magnetic aesthetic” that resonates with Calgary’s nightlife . The decor and atmosphere reinforce this unique feel: plush seating, hookah pipes on every table, and dynamic lighting give a sexy, upscale-lounge vibe. As a result, many visitors mention the relaxed but energetic ambiance – “color-changing lighting and good music” create a relaxed, colorful mood . The lounge has hosted a variety of notable events (from cultural music nights to indie acts), making it a local landmark for special nights out. In a city with few hookah bars, Chi-Cha fills a niche that draws in diverse crowds: students grabbing a late-night bite, young professionals celebrating birthdays, or cultural communities looking for a familiar vibe. Its location in an office tower gives it a hidden-gem allure, while its high ratings for service and flavor make it beloved by regulars. All these factors – unique menu, friendly service, blend of music and shisha – combine to create a venue that both Calgary artists and audience members enjoy returning to.
Visitor Tips and Information
Accessibility and Entry: The lounge is wheelchair-accessible with ground-floor entry and elevator access . Doors usually open in the early evening; for major events, arrive early (30–60 minutes before) to secure seating. Carry valid ID: the venue will card everyone (you must be at least 18) and does not admit minors. It’s a casual atmosphere, so dress is smart-casual – no formal attire needed, but avoid wearing hats/hoodies inside for security. Security is typically light – an ID check and maybe bag screening; large bags or outside alcohol/hookah are not allowed.
Food and Drinks: Chi-Cha serves an extensive food menu (Latin-American and fusion dishes) and a full bar. Grab a bite before your hookah; popular picks are the chicken wings or fried rice (some diners note fresh ingredients and Latin flair) . Drink selection includes cocktails (try the Pisco Sour or a fruit-infused mixer) and mocktails. Beware: the kitchen may close around midnight on weekdays and 1–2am on weekends, so plan food orders accordingly. There is no coffee shop inside; if you need caffeine, consider nearby cafes on Stephen Avenue before your night out.
Hookah Service: The lounge provides hookah setup at your table once you place an order. Feel free to ask the staff for help choosing or mixing flavors. On busy nights, expect to preorder hookah so we can have it ready when you sit down. Tipping is customary for excellent service on food/drinks – consider it as support for your server as in any restaurant or bar.
Technology and Connectivity: Wi-Fi is available at the lounge for guests. You’ll likely get cellular service normally, but if you need internet, they provide it. No specific charging stations were noted, so you may want to bring charger if staying late.
What Not to Do: Avoid causing disturbance; smoking is only for hookah and only at tables. Under no circumstances should customers bring outside tobacco, alcohol or drugs – only the lounge’s products are used. Also, due to the smoke, some guests find wearing light perfume or carrying strong scents helps mask the smoke odor. If you’re uncomfortable around tobacco smoke, this venue may not suit you.
Payment: The lounge accepts credit/debit cards at the bar. It’s a good idea to have some cash as backup (in case of card machine issues or for quick tips). Tipping a little extra for hookah service is appreciated by staff.
Peak Times: The busiest nights are Thursday through Saturday, especially after 10pm. If you prefer a quieter visit, consider early-week nights (Monday–Wednesday) or come right at opening time. Keep in mind that after 11pm–midnight, the place really heats up with crowds and dancing. On Stampede or holiday weekends, expect a festive crowd and longer lines.

What are the noise levels like inside?
The music is generally loud enough for a club atmosphere, especially on weekends with a DJ. Sound levels vary by event – on dance nights it can rival a nightclub, while on quieter evenings it’s more lounge-level. The venue itself is small with tables close together, so conversations can be heard only if people keep their voices up. If you need a break from music, you can step outside or talk quietly in a corner booth.
