Events and Programming

EartH Kitchen—also promoted as EartH Bar & Kitchen—is the smallest of the three event spaces inside EartH, Dalston’s independent arts complex. Its 300-person scale makes it especially suitable for underground club nights, emerging promoters, label showcases, hybrid live-and-DJ bills and community-focused events. Most public Kitchen events take place at weekends, although the programme is not weekly or fixed: the room also serves as a bar, reception space and breakout area for events in EartH Theatre and EartH Hall.

Programming since the post-lockdown reopening illustrates the room’s range. In 2022 it hosted the eclectic electronic series Guava Jamz, a Christmas edition of Baile LDN and a stripped-back Secretsundaze Halloween all-nighter. The 2023 calendar included the romantic garage-and-breaks party Serenade, Beirut Groove Collective’s rare Arabic, African, soul and psychedelic selections, and Sex and Rage’s performance-led queer club night. These events established the Kitchen as more than a conventional bar: it became a small-scale cultural and dance venue in its own right.

During 2024 and 2025, bookings ranged from the soulful house series Makin’ Moves and jazz-house specialist Cody Currie to Into the Wild’s disco and electro, Habibi Funk’s full-building festival, Beirut Groove Collective, the neuro-inclusive daytime series Out of Body Pop and recurring London Something jungle and drum-and-bass nights. Other bills have combined post-punk, acid rock and live electronics, or baile funk, reggaeton, gqom and global club music. Typical advance prices found across these programmes were approximately £5–£20, with low-cost early tiers, group offers and higher final-release prices.

The 2026 programme has continued that pattern through Club Knight’s bass-led parties, raw house and disco, London Something’s jungle and drum-and-bass sessions and full-venue collaborations in which the Kitchen hosts its own takeover alongside EartH Hall. A further London Something instalment was announced for later in 2026, indicating that recurring underground dance programming remains central. No Kitchen-specific 2027 season could be verified by 23 August 2026; events are normally announced individually rather than as a long-term annual programme.

Tickets and Booking

Buy through the authorised checkout attached to EartH’s event listing. Tickets are usually released when the promoter announces the line-up, often in several price bands. Popular jungle, house and global-club nights have sold out, so waiting until the day is risky. Join an official waiting list if one is offered rather than buying from an unverified reseller. Door tickets are entirely event-dependent and may cost more.

Check the room name before paying: EartH Theatre, Hall and Kitchen are separate spaces with different entrances, capacities and layouts. Also read the stated age limit and last-entry time. Kitchen club nights are commonly 18+, but selected promoters use 21+ or 23+ policies. Last guaranteed entry is frequently midnight, 1am or 1.30am, even where music continues until 3.30am or 4am.

About EartH Kitchen

EartH Kitchen occupies part of the former foyer of the Savoy Cinema, designed by William R. Glen and opened on 26 October 1936 with approximately 1,890 seats. It later traded as the ABC, Konak and Ace before closing as a cinema on 16 February 1984. The divided building subsequently accommodated uses including snooker and community functions, whilst the upper auditorium was abandoned and deteriorated.

After a redevelopment valued at about £3 million, the complex reopened as EartH—Evolutionary Arts Hackney—in September 2018. The opening programme included Mulatu Astatke and Fatoumata Diawara. EartH Kitchen followed as an all-day restaurant and bar in 2019, designed to move from neighbourhood dining during the day to pre-show hospitality and evening events. Its role has since evolved towards flexible events, club programming, pop-ups and private hire, so food service should never be assumed unless the individual event confirms it.

Seating and Layout

The official maximum is 300 standing. Published configurations include about 100 people in theatre style and up to 150 for seated dining, although the precise limit depends on staging, furniture, production and access routes. Hire information describes an approximately 183-square-metre room with a ceiling reaching around five metres; the floor plan is irregular and split level, with its longest published dimension about 16.5 metres.

A central bar divides the open-plan floor into several zones. The raised mezzanine, booths and banquettes provide places to sit or step away from the densest part of a dancefloor, whilst the main wooden floor offers the most direct sound and energy. Most ticketed club events are general admission without reserved seats or a permanent VIP area. For a quieter experience, choose the edge of the room or raised seating; for the fullest bass response, stay nearer the central dancefloor without standing directly in circulation routes around the bar.

Sound, Lighting and Production

The Kitchen has its own professional system and should not be confused with the immersive L-ISA installation in EartH Theatre. Its published inventory includes two Martin Audio Blackline H3 top cabinets, two S218 double-18-inch subwoofers, QSC amplification, a 32-channel Soundcraft desk, three CDJ-2000 Nexus players, two Technics 1210 turntables and a DJM-900 Nexus mixer. Microphones, stands, a drum-microphone set, monitors and cabling are also held in-house; lighting provision is available according to the production brief.

Following acoustic assessment, the system was configured through a locked processor and limiter to control low-frequency breakout into surrounding homes. This makes the room capable of serious club-level sound whilst operating within neighbourhood noise conditions. Visiting productions should confirm the current inventory and permitted sound levels, as equipment and temporary-event arrangements can change.

Getting There and Parking

EartH is at 11–17 Stoke Newington Road, Dalston, London N16 8BH. Dalston Kingsland Overground station is approximately a four-minute walk away; Dalston Junction is about seven minutes. From Dalston Kingsland, walk north along Kingsland High Street as it becomes Stoke Newington Road. From Dalston Junction, head north-west through central Dalston and continue along the A10.

Bus routes serving the immediate area include 30, 38, 56, 67, 76, 149, 236, 242, 243, 277 and 488. Several routes operate late or overnight, but exact night services and diversions should be checked on the day. There is no nearby Underground station, making the Overground or bus the simplest choice for most visitors.

The venue does not advertise a public visitor car park, and kerbside parking in Dalston is limited and controlled. Bentley Road is one council option, with 109 spaces and a four-hour maximum stay; 2026 daytime charges ranged from roughly £2.70 to £5.90 per hour according to vehicle emissions. Blue Badge holders park free in council-managed car parks. Because those arrangements may not suit late events, public transport is usually more practical.

Rideshare and taxi passengers should avoid stopping in the busy A10 bus lanes immediately outside. Follow steward instructions and choose a legal nearby side-street pick-up point after the show. Allow extra time when Hall or Theatre events finish simultaneously, as the pavement, cloakroom and local roads can become busy.

Inside the Venue

Expect ticket scanning, age checks where applicable and security inspection at entry. Bring the original physical photo ID required by the event; a photograph stored on a phone may not be accepted. The Kitchen has its own fixed bar, toilets, booths, dancefloor and access to a designated smoking area when open. A cloakroom normally operates for larger events, although capacity and charges vary. One September 2025 visitor reported £2 per item and £3 for a bag, but that should be treated as an example rather than a fixed tariff.

Food varies considerably. The space began as a full restaurant and has hosted resident pop-ups, but contemporary hire arrangements also use approved external caterers. Some club nights offer no substantial food at all. Merchandise depends on the artist or promoter. Mobile reception can become slower in a full room, so save the ticket barcode before arriving and agree a meeting point with friends.

Accessibility and Inclusive Facilities

The most important limitation is that EartH Kitchen does not currently have step-free access and its stair arrangement is not compatible with the venue’s motorised stair climber. It is therefore not accessible to wheelchair users, despite having a dedicated accessible toilet within the space. The venue says it is seeking funding to improve this part of the building. Visitors with other access requirements may request early entry, alternative seating or assistance, subject to space and advance arrangement.

Assistance animals may be admitted depending on the event. Necessary medication and food or drink for a medical condition are allowed, although supporting documentation may be requested for sharps or liquids. Strobe and flashing effects are used, so anyone with photosensitive epilepsy should obtain event-specific production information in advance. ADA is a United States standard rather than the governing access framework in England, and no separate ADA-compliance certification for the Kitchen was found.

Nearby Amenities

Dalston has abundant pre-show options along Kingsland High Street, Stoke Newington Road, Ridley Road and around Gillett Square. Choices include Turkish grills, pizza, cafés, small-plate restaurants, pubs and late-night takeaways. The greatest concentration is south of the venue towards Dalston Kingsland and Dalston Junction, so dining there avoids a separate journey before doors.

Nearby accommodation includes limited-service hotels around Dalston Junction and Hackney Central, including Kip Hotel and a local Premier Inn. Book early on major event weekends. For late travel, return to the Overground before the final trains or use the area’s night-bus network; do not assume London’s Night Tube will provide a convenient direct route from Dalston.

What Makes EartH Kitchen Special

Transit Studio transformed the former cinema lobby by removing a dividing wall, exposing structural beams and restoring the double-height volume. The raised ceiling gained nearly two metres, whilst a new feature window brought daylight deep into the room. A sculptural light above the central bar represents a three-dimensional sequence of frozen music. Deco-inspired wall lights, Japanese-denim banquettes and colourful Formica tables soften the industrial shell.

Culturally, the Kitchen fills the gap between a bar and a major concert room. It lets developing promoters test ideas at 300-person scale and gives live, queer, neuro-inclusive and diaspora-led events a characterful home. Commercial income also supports EartH’s artistic and education work, including Studio 36, a music facility provided free to young artists in Hackney through a charity partnership. Local supporters have credited the venue with increasing cultural activity and trade, although licensing debates have also highlighted the need to manage noise, queues and dispersal responsibly.

Recent feedback across the EartH complex frequently praises the distinctive architecture, powerful sound, helpful security and clean toilets. Criticism has focused on heat at packed standing shows, delayed entry and the hard wooden seating in the separate Theatre. Kitchen-specific community testimony is more positive about its spacious zones and opportunities to sit without leaving the main event. Arrive early, wear breathable layers, bring earplugs and use the quieter edges when you need a break.

EartH participates in the Good Night Out initiative, with staff trained to support safer nightlife. Smoking is confined to designated areas, and patrons are expected to leave quietly because homes are close by. There is no general dress code, but individual promoters may set themed or conduct-based entry policies. Bring only a compact bag, comfortable footwear, ID, a payment card and a charged phone.

There is no advertised public visitor car park at EartH. Local street spaces are controlled, limited and difficult to find on busy evenings.
