HYLO Kala Ghoda

Mumbai

Events and Programming

HYLO Kala Ghoda is best understood as a restaurant, cocktail bar and adaptable nightlife venue rather than a conventional theatre or concert hall. Its public programme combines electronic music, DJ-led parties, live performances, themed celebrations, brunches, food collaborations and small cultural gatherings. The venue’s identity is closely tied to All In Hospitality, the company founded by Mayank Bhatt after his work with Impresario Entertainment & Hospitality and Blue Frog. HYLO opened in December 2024, with its launch announced for 7 December, so there is no HYLO event history for 2021–2023.

The documented programme shows a venue that can move between dining-led events and music-first club nights. During the 2025 Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, HYLO hosted Il Dolce Vino, a small Italian-style wine sundowner with a curated grazing board and a published capacity of 25 guests. The venue also appeared as a food destination during the festival, serving its regional Indian approach alongside the wider precinct’s exhibitions, performances and street programming.

Food programming has included a month-long A Taste of Odisha collaboration with chef and author Ananya Banerjee in July 2025, featuring dishes such as dahi bara aloo dum, pakhala platters, dalma, macha besara, chhena poda and rasabali. A Bengali Pujo Feast followed from 23 September to 2 October 2025, with vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis and a Vijaya Dashami meal. These events illustrate HYLO’s recurring interest in regional culinary storytelling rather than a fixed menu of generic Indian bar food.

Its music programme has become increasingly visible. Publicly documented 2025 nights included Needawg’s all-night tech-house and dub-techno set in April; the IKAT Story x HYLO party with local DJ and vinyl sets; PRP & Friends, a hip-hop and bass event featuring Yung Prp, Tansane, Citezen, Kale Hill and Disco Juice; and a genre-spanning throwback night with Lynston and Another Adi covering pop, hip-hop, R&B and dance music from the 1980s through the 2010s. The listed age requirements varied by event, including 18-plus and 21-plus nights.

Seasonal and collaborative parties have also shaped the venue’s profile. A Halloween 2025 takeover linked HYLO with The Dimsum Room in the same building, dividing the experience between commercial and Bollywood music at HYLO and house, Afro and techno programming upstairs. The New Year’s Eve Gatsby Party similarly used two floors, with food, cocktails and package-based admission. A reported price for that celebration was ₹7,500 plus taxes per person, showing how special-event pricing can rise substantially above ordinary dining or club admission.

In 2026, HYLO’s music direction has included more deliberately curated, immersive formats. The Rural Japan showcase in January used three spaces: the Terrace, the main HYLO floor and a smaller Listening Room. The event was presented as a meeting between Tokyo’s underground scene and Mumbai artists, with ambient, broken-beat and techno-oriented programming across the rooms. The venue described this format as an evolution of its earlier Room 303 concept, which also tested movement between multiple spaces.

Other documented 2026 events include a 12-hour Holi celebration with seven DJs; an ELVT and Framed party featuring Ouissam, Blurry Slur, Choksi, Kibo and 42.mp3; a Father’s Day brunch with regional food and cocktails; and the three-stage 428 Soundwave event, built around Japanese auditory and underground culture. Public listings also recorded Kratex, Seb Wildblood, Karsh Kale, and the All In Showcase with Nastia during July and August 2026.

Announcements extending beyond August 2026 include Purane Chawal, bringing together Arjun Vagale, Calm Chor and Ash Roy on 5 September, and a Guy J all-night-long session listed for 20 September. The pattern suggests that HYLO is continuing to book extended electronic sets, respected Indian selectors, international underground artists and multi-room experiences rather than operating only as a conventional dinner venue.

Tickets and Booking

Ticketing at HYLO depends on the event. Ordinary dining, brunch and food collaborations are generally reservation-led, while club nights and music showcases use advance event registration or ticket sales. Publicly listed music prices have ranged from free or RSVP-based entry for some smaller events to approximately ₹999 onwards for the 428 showcase, ₹999 onwards for the Nastia event, ₹1,999 onwards for Guy J, and an early-bird price of about ₹815 for the 2026 Holi celebration. These are event-specific examples, not a standing HYLO tariff.

Popular nights are normally safest to book early because the venue is relatively intimate and several programmes use limited-capacity or standing-room formats. Multi-room events may sell different admission categories, while large celebrations can use food-and-beverage packages instead of a simple entry ticket. Read the event conditions carefully before paying: age limits, start times, package inclusions, standing arrangements and late-entry rules can differ from one listing to another.

For dining-led programming, reservations are important when a menu is tied to a festival, chef collaboration or holiday. The venue’s published dining information describes HYLO as a full-service restaurant and bar with lunch, dinner, cocktails, brunch, indoor seating, outdoor seating, DJ programming and large-group seating. A recent listing placed typical dining spend around ₹3,100 for two, while an earlier review estimated ₹2,500–₹3,000 for two before taxes. Menu prices and packages change.

There is no consistently published public box-office schedule. In practice, watch the individual event announcement rather than assuming that every HYLO night has door sales. If a listing says limited capacity, advance booking is the safer option. For highly anticipated international DJ bookings, choose the earliest available price tier and arrive before the advertised start window rather than relying on last-minute entry.

About HYLO Kala Ghoda

HYLO occupies an upper floor of Building 30 on K Dubash Marg, in Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda and Fort district. Published event listings identify it as the second floor, while some current dining directories describe the restaurant unit as the third floor, reflecting different numbering conventions within the building. The consistently published address is Building 30, K Dubash Marg, Kala Ghoda, Fort, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400001.

The name HYLO is derived from “HYper LOcal”. Its food programme travels across India, drawing on regional recipes, native ingredients, family cooking and lesser-known culinary traditions. The restaurant’s work has involved chefs Swati Harsha and Mrigank Singh, while the beverage programme has been associated with Razvan “Razz” Zamfirescu. The concept is designed to combine regional Indian food with contemporary cocktails in a space that can also become a lively music room.

The venue is part of a broader heritage setting. HYLO is housed in a pre-independence building that has been described as approximately a century old. The property was formerly associated with the Joss Building and later Irish House, before being reworked for the current group of food and hospitality concepts. The building’s layered history gives the restaurant a very different character from a purpose-built modern nightclub.

A published wedding-venue listing gives HYLO a seated capacity of approximately 150 and a floating capacity of approximately 400. This should be treated as an event-planning figure rather than a universal concert capacity: dining layouts, dance-floor arrangements, terrace use, production equipment and licensing conditions will affect the number admitted for a particular programme.

Seating and Layout

HYLO does not operate with a permanent theatre-style seating chart. Regular dining uses tables, booths, bar seating and other restaurant arrangements, while ticketed music nights are commonly advertised as indoor, standing events. For a seated meal, the most comfortable positions are likely to be away from the DJ booth and primary circulation routes. For club events, sightlines are less important than proximity to the sound system, dance floor and bar.

The venue’s most distinctive layout is its ability to connect several different environments. The 2026 Rural showcase used an outdoor Terrace, a main HYLO floor and a smaller Listening Room. The Terrace was presented as a garden-like opening space; the main room carried the larger dance-floor experience; and the Listening Room offered a closer, more intimate sound environment. A narrow passage connected parts of the experience, encouraging guests to move rather than remain in one fixed viewing position.

There is no publicly released dimensioned floor plan, ceiling-height specification, fixed stage size or permanent audience configuration. The venue should therefore not be compared directly with a proscenium theatre, auditorium or arena. Its strength is flexibility: a dining room can become a club floor, a terrace can provide a quieter transition space, and the building’s separate areas can support simultaneous programming.

Architecture, Sound and Production

Interior descriptions emphasise vaulted ceilings, vintage Persian carpets, chandeliers, locally sourced artwork, comfortable booths and an eclectic mix of heritage and contemporary furnishings. The design was credited to This Is It Design Studio and was intended to feel inviting for conversation as well as suitable for a lively evening. The result is more atmospheric than industrial: old-world surfaces, decorative lighting and a restaurant setting sit alongside club-oriented equipment.

The venue has a DJ booth and club-ready lighting. Reviews and event coverage refer to immersive or energetic lighting during parties, but no public technical sheet specifies fixture counts, control consoles, lumens, rigging points, video walls or lighting positions. Those details should be requested from the production team for a private event or technical advance.

Sound equipment can vary by programme. Coverage of the Rural showcase identified a Funktion-One system on the main HYLO floor. An April 2026 ELVT listing stated that d&b audiotechnik systems would power both rooms for that event. This indicates that HYLO can use different sound solutions or event-specific production packages; it would be inaccurate to describe one system as the only permanent venue installation.

The programming nevertheless reveals a serious approach to sound. Extended sets, listening-room formats, vinyl sessions, ambient passages and underground electronic music require more than background restaurant audio. HYLO’s multi-room events are designed around movement, contrast and changing acoustic intensity, although no public acoustic report, decibel policy or isolation specification has been published.

Getting There and Parking

HYLO is in Kala Ghoda, South Mumbai, on K Dubash Marg, also known locally as Rampart Row. The area lies within an established arts and heritage precinct near museums, galleries, educational institutions and the waterfront. It is a walkable destination once you reach Fort or Kala Ghoda, but evening traffic and limited curb space make private-car arrival less predictable.

Churchgate is the closest major suburban railway station, approximately a 13-minute walk from the Kala Ghoda area according to current transport information. Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus is approximately a 16-minute walk away and connects with the Central and Harbour railway networks. The nearest Mumbai Metro Line 3 stop listed for Kala Ghoda is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Metro, around an 11-minute walk away.

Bus passengers can use stops around the Reserve Bank of India, Hutatma Chowk, Khadi Bhandar and Ahilyabai Holkar Chowk. The Reserve Bank of India stop is listed as roughly three minutes away, while Hutatma Chowk and nearby stops are generally six to seven minutes on foot. Routes and service patterns can change, so allow extra time if travelling during a festival, Friday night or major city event.

Listings for HYLO mention parking, street parking and valet parking, but a dependable current tariff for the venue itself is not publicly established. The Kala Ghoda area has a municipal pay-and-park facility, and a 2025 report described civic action against a contractor accused of overcharging motorists. Use only marked parking, check the displayed rate board and keep the receipt. Do not assume that a space near the entrance will be available during a major event.

For app-based taxis or auto-rickshaws, the practical drop-off point is the Kala Ghoda or K Dubash Marg approach rather than attempting to stop directly outside the upper-floor venue entrance. Walking from Churchgate or CSMT is often simpler than being caught in Fort traffic, especially after a large event has ended.

Inside the Venue

Expect a restaurant-bar atmosphere during ordinary service and a more club-like environment during ticketed nights. Entry procedures depend on the event organiser. Music listings commonly specify standing admission, indoor layout and age verification. Some events begin in the evening and continue after midnight, while special brunches and food experiences operate during daytime hours.

The interior atmosphere is built around chandeliers, heritage textures, carpets, artwork, booths and a prominent beverage programme. The food menu has included regional Indian dishes such as Kaaley Chane ke Shaami, thecha prawns, Goan fish curry, Uttaranchali thali, ema datshi with tingmo, Nepali chicken sekhua, saoji mutton and desserts inspired by different parts of India. The menu changes, but food is central to the venue rather than a secondary concert concession.

Current listings indicate full-bar service, cocktails, Wi-Fi, indoor and outdoor seating, DJ programming, reservations and large-group dining. Public information does not reliably confirm coat check, merchandise facilities, dedicated event lockers, charging points, cloakroom arrangements or the location of every restroom, so these should not be assumed for a particular night.

HYLO is not a conventional merchandise venue. Artist merchandise, if any, is likely to be event-specific rather than a permanent facility. Photography and recording rules may also vary according to the performer, promoter or private-event host. Carry a small bag, government-issued identification when the event is age-restricted, and only essential personal items.

Nearby Amenities

Kala Ghoda is one of Mumbai’s strongest pre-show neighbourhoods because food, art, heritage and nightlife are concentrated within a short walk. HYLO itself can serve as the dining destination before a ticketed night, while nearby restaurants include The Dimsum Room, 1441 Pizzeria, Khyber, Copper Chimney and other Fort and Colaba venues. The same building houses multiple food concepts, making it possible to combine dinner, drinks and music without a long transfer.

The precinct’s cultural landmarks include the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya, Jehangir Art Gallery, the National Gallery of Modern Art, David Sassoon Library and the Kala Ghoda public art district. A pre-show walk can add considerable character to the visit, although festival periods bring heavy crowds, temporary stalls and slower movement through the lanes.

For late-night departures, plan your return before entering. Churchgate and CSMT are walkable, but the safest and most comfortable option after a midnight or 1:30 a.m. finish may be a pre-booked taxi or ride. Public transport availability varies by hour, and a busy event can make the immediate streets congested.

What Makes This Venue Special

HYLO’s uniqueness comes from the overlap of heritage building, regional Indian food and serious contemporary music programming. It is not a black-box club hidden in an industrial compound, nor is it a formal performing-arts institution. It places electronic music, cocktails and dance-floor energy inside a historic Kala Ghoda address surrounded by museums, galleries and Victorian-era architecture.

The venue’s music identity has been shaped by multi-room concepts and extended-format nights. Rural’s Terrace-to-main-room-to-Listening-Room journey, the earlier Room 303 experiment, the 428 three-stage format and the use of different professional sound systems show an ambition to make the building itself part of the experience. Guests are encouraged to explore rather than simply face a stage for the entire night.

Its culinary identity adds another layer. HYLO’s regional menu and chef collaborations give it a cultural role beyond nightlife, particularly when it presents Odisha, Bengal, Maharashtra or other regional food traditions to a cosmopolitan South Mumbai audience. This is also why the venue fits naturally into Kala Ghoda’s broader culture of food-led festivals, design conversations, galleries and heritage walks.

The wider impact is best described as cultural rather than quantified. By reusing an older commercial building, employing hospitality and production teams, attracting visitors to K Dubash Marg and booking local artists alongside international acts, HYLO contributes to the district’s evening economy. Its collaborations also connect Mumbai’s underground music community with scenes in Japan and elsewhere. That conclusion is an interpretation of the venue’s documented programming rather than a published economic-impact study.

Visitor Tips and Information

Check the exact event listing before travelling. HYLO’s age rules are not uniform: some documented nights were 18-plus, while several club events required guests to be at least 21. A daytime brunch or food collaboration may be family-oriented, but that does not mean an evening music event will admit children.

Arrive 30–45 minutes before a popular ticketed event, and earlier if you need dinner, a table or age verification. Carry a valid photo ID for restricted events. Wear comfortable footwear for standing parties, and avoid bringing large bags, outside food, professional cameras or anything that could slow security checks. Specific prohibited-item rules can change by promoter.

Wheelchair access is indicated by current venue listings, and dining information also mentions elevator access. However, there is no publicly detailed accessibility guide confirming the step-free route from street level, accessible seating zones, restroom arrangements, hearing assistance or the precise route to the Terrace and Listening Room. HYLO should not be described as ADA-compliant; ADA is a United States standard, not the applicable legal framework in Mumbai. Guests who need step-free access or accessible toilet facilities should confirm the route and event layout before purchasing.

There is no published dimensioned seating plan, technical rider, permanent stage specification or comprehensive venue rulebook. That is normal for a restaurant-led event space, but it means practical details can change substantially between dining, brunch, club and private-hire formats. The best insider strategy is to identify whether your event is seated, standing or multi-room before booking, then plan transport and arrival around that format.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is HYLO Kala Ghoda a concert venue or a restaurant?

HYLO is primarily a restaurant and cocktail bar that also hosts ticketed music events, DJ nights, brunches, food festivals and cultural gatherings. It does not function like a dedicated auditorium with fixed rows and a permanent proscenium stage. Its restaurant layout can be adapted for standing parties, multi-room electronic music events, seated meals and private celebrations.

When did HYLO Kala Ghoda open?

HYLO was launched in December 2024, with the opening announced for 7 December. The venue is the first major concept associated with All In Hospitality, founded by Mayank Bhatt. Because it opened at the end of 2024, there were no HYLO events during 2021, 2022 or 2023. Its documented public programming begins with late 2024 and 2025 activity.

What kind of music is played at HYLO?

Documented programming includes house, disco, techno, dub techno, breakbeat, electro, hip-hop, bass, pop, R&B and experimental electronic music. The venue has hosted local selectors, international DJs, all-night-long sets and multi-room showcases. It also books festive and crossover events, so a particular night may be more commercial, Bollywood-focused, live-oriented or food-led than its underground programme.

Does HYLO host live bands?

HYLO’s public programme is more strongly associated with DJs, selectors and electronic music than with full-scale touring bands. Karsh Kale’s 2026 appearance demonstrates that the venue can present an artist-led electronic or fusion performance, while other listings centre on DJs and extended sets. Always check the specific event description to determine whether the format is a live set, DJ set or party.

What is the capacity of HYLO Kala Ghoda?

A published event-venue listing gives HYLO approximately 150 seated places and 400 guests in a floating arrangement. These figures should not be treated as a fixed concert capacity. The usable number changes with dining tables, dance-floor space, terrace access, production equipment, event licensing and the number of rooms open to guests. Ticketed music nights may use a smaller operational limit.

Does HYLO have reserved seating?

Reserved tables are relevant for restaurant service, brunches and some packages, but most listed club nights are standing events. The venue does not publish a permanent seat map, balcony plan or theatre-style section chart. If you want a table, ask about dining reservations or event packages before arrival. Do not assume that a general admission music ticket includes a chair or table.

Are HYLO events indoors or outdoors?

Most ticketed music listings describe an indoor venue, but HYLO also has access to an outdoor Terrace or garden area used in multi-room programming. Whether the Terrace is open depends on the event, weather, production plan and operating permissions. A ticket for a three-room event may include the Terrace, while a regular restaurant booking may use only the main indoor dining space.

What are typical HYLO ticket prices?

Prices vary widely by event. Public examples include early-bird Holi admission around ₹815, music showcases from approximately ₹999, and an all-night Guy J event from around ₹1,999. Some smaller parties have been listed as free or RSVP-based, while New Year’s Eve packages have reached ₹7,500 plus taxes. Treat these as historical examples, not guaranteed current prices.

Can you buy tickets at the door?

Door admission depends on the organiser and remaining capacity. Some events may accept walk-ins or late sales, but limited-capacity showcases and international DJ nights are safer to book in advance. A dining reservation is not automatically a ticket to a separate club event. Check whether your confirmation covers entry, food, drinks, a table, or only a reservation request.

What age limit applies at HYLO?

There is no single age rule for every HYLO programme. Public listings have shown both 18-plus and 21-plus events. Several late-night electronic music events specifically stated that children were not allowed. Food festivals, brunches and daytime gatherings may have different conditions. Bring government-issued photo identification whenever the event description includes an age restriction.

How far is HYLO from Churchgate station?

The Kala Ghoda area is approximately a 13-minute walk from Churchgate railway station, although the exact time depends on your exit, traffic crossings and the final approach to Building 30. Walk towards Fort and Kala Ghoda, then continue to K Dubash Marg. Allow extra time during the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival, when pedestrian traffic and temporary installations can slow the route.

Is CSMT closer than Churchgate?

Both stations are practical. Current transport information places CSMT at approximately a 16-minute walk from Kala Ghoda and Churchgate at approximately 13 minutes. Churchgate is convenient for Western Railway passengers, while CSMT serves Central and Harbour line connections. Metro Line 3 also provides a CSMT Metro option, listed at roughly an 11-minute walk.

Is parking available near HYLO?

Venue and dining listings mention parking, street parking and valet parking, while the Kala Ghoda area has a municipal pay-and-park facility. Availability and pricing can vary by time and event. A 2025 report recorded civic action over alleged overcharging at a nearby parking facility. Use marked spaces, check the posted tariff and avoid assuming that valet service is guaranteed for every booking.

Is HYLO wheelchair accessible?

Current venue listings describe HYLO as wheelchair accessible, and dining information mentions elevator access. However, public sources do not provide a complete step-free route, accessible seating plan, restroom map or details for the Terrace and Listening Room. Guests requiring accessibility support should confirm the entrance, lift, toilet and event-floor arrangements before booking, especially for a crowded standing event.

Does HYLO have an accessible toilet?

An accessible toilet is indicated in some directory information for the wider dining property, but the exact location and event-night availability are not clearly documented in publicly available HYLO information. Do not assume that an accessible facility on another floor is available during a late-night event. Confirm the route and operating arrangements before attending if this is essential.

What food is served at HYLO?

HYLO serves regional Indian food interpreted through a contemporary restaurant and bar format. Published menus and reviews mention dishes connected with Uttarakhand, Kerala, Goa, Nagaland, Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, Bhutan and other regional traditions. Examples include Kaaley Chane ke Shaami, thecha prawns, Goan fish curry, ema datshi with tingmo, saoji mutton and regional thalis.

Does HYLO have a dress code?

No comprehensive permanent dress code is publicly stated. For ordinary dining, smart-casual clothing is a practical choice. Special parties may have a theme, festive styling or a more nightlife-oriented crowd. Comfortable footwear is advisable for standing events, while neat attire is appropriate for dinner and cocktail service. Check the individual event notice for any costume or theme requirement.

Can you take photographs or bring a professional camera?

Casual phone photography may be acceptable, but professional cameras, flash, recording equipment and extensive filming can be restricted by the artist, promoter or private-event host. No permanent public photography policy has been published. Avoid obstructing other guests, staff or performers, and check with event security before bringing anything larger than a phone or compact personal camera.

What makes HYLO different from other Mumbai nightlife venues?

HYLO combines a heritage Kala Ghoda building, regional Indian food, cocktails, restaurant hospitality and underground music programming. Its Terrace, main room and Listening Room can create a journey through different atmospheres rather than one uninterrupted dance floor. The setting beside museums, galleries and historic architecture gives the venue a cultural and architectural character uncommon among purpose-built nightlife spaces.
