Events and Programming

The Brooklyn Monarch presents a busy, year-round mix of concerts and nightlife at 23 Meadow Street. Hardcore, punk, metal and post-hardcore form the venue’s backbone, but its calendar also includes techno, drum and bass, hard dance, dubstep, hip-hop, reggaeton, K-pop, emo parties, goth nights and themed raves. Earlier concerts generally begin in the evening, while electronic events frequently run late. Programming often clusters around weekends, with several events per week during busy periods.

Notable programming since the post-lockdown reopening has included Deicide in 2021; the 2022 Black N Blue Bowl with Agnostic Front, Sick of It All, Madball and other New York hardcore names; DKB’s K-pop tour; and shows by Drain, Drug Church, Gel and On the Might of Princes in 2023. Later calendars brought Rx Bandits, Lacey Sturm, Eyehategod, Escape the Fate, Los Campesinos!, Converge, Cave In, All Shall Perish and Tiny Moving Parts. Recurring or multi-act events have included Restless Fest, Black N Blue Bowl, A Home Away From Home, the Secret History of Black Punk Fest, Metal Injection Festival and Beach Fossils’ Halloween celebration.

The 2026 schedule continues the same range: touring hardcore and extreme-metal packages, established punk bands, international electronic artists, bass events, Latin dance parties, K-pop programming and elaborate costume-driven raves. Public listings already extend into 2027 with touring variety entertainment and community-convention programming, confirming that the venue remains open and active under The Brooklyn Monarch name. Check the live event listing for the current lineup rather than relying on an older printed schedule.

Standard advance tickets commonly begin around $15 to $35 for local parties, tribute nights and emerging-artist bills. Touring concerts often fall around $25 to $60 before fees, while major packages, festivals and premium electronic events can reach $60 to $100 or more. VIP tables, behind-stage areas or bundled experiences cost more. Prices rise between early-bird, general-sale and door tiers, and resale listings may be substantially above face value. ticketfairy.com

Tickets and Booking

Tickets are normally sold online through the authorized checkout selected by the venue or event promoter; there is no single sales system used for every show. Confirm that the listing names 23 Meadow Street, because The Meadows and The Wood Shop are separate sister venues next door. No regular daytime box-office hours are publicly advertised. Will-call check-in begins when doors open, and patrons collecting tickets must bring a valid physical photo ID.

There is no fixed venue-wide on-sale day. Promoters may announce tickets several weeks or months ahead, often starting with a limited lower-priced tier. Buy early for New York hardcore reunions, international K-pop acts, touring metal packages and electronic headliners. Door tickets are possible only when an event has not sold out and are usually more expensive. Sales are generally final; canceled events are refunded through the original payment method, while postponements and lineup changes follow event-specific terms.

About The Brooklyn Monarch

The Brooklyn Monarch is an independently operated indoor-and-outdoor music venue in East Williamsburg’s industrial district. It opened in February 2020 after owner Chip Su, who had previously established The Kingsland, built out the former factory property as a larger concert and nightlife space. The timing was exceptionally difficult: the venue had prepared for an approximately 800-person inaugural show when New York’s COVID-19 shutdown interrupted operations. Community fundraising, side work and support from the local music scene helped the team survive until live events returned.

The venue now advertises a maximum capacity of 1,500 standing or approximately 500 in a seated rental configuration. Public concerts are ordinarily standing-room only. It has a main indoor stage, an outdoor garden stage, multiple bars, a kitchen and coat check. Published rental descriptions commonly place the usable event space near 10,000 square feet, with earlier profiles describing a roughly 7,000-square-foot main room. Exact room and stage dimensions are not publicly documented in a reliable technical rider.

The two-story building dates from around 1960 and was classified as a factory property before its entertainment use. Its exposed brick, high ceilings, open floor and warehouse character remain central to the experience. Visitor accounts describe a significant 2023 reconfiguration that removed an internal wall, enlarged the main floor and repositioned production areas. The result feels less like a polished theater and more like an oversized DIY rock club crossed with a Brooklyn warehouse party.

Seating and Layout

Most ticketed shows use an open general-admission floor without permanent seats or assigned sections. The best position depends on the event: front-center is most intense for hardcore and metal, while the middle of the room near the front-of-house mix position usually provides a more balanced view and sound. Stand farther back or along the perimeter if you want to avoid pits, crowd movement and the densest dancing.

Some late-night events add reserved tables or bottle-service areas for guests aged 21 and over. A seated VIP area has also been reported near the soundboard, but its size and placement change with production. The outdoor garden may operate as a smoking patio, social area or second performance space. It has artificial turf, real trees, greenery and its own stage, giving multi-stage festivals somewhere to alternate sets.

Sound experiences vary with the promoter, touring production and crowd size. The house advertises professional sound, lighting and video walls, and renovations moved the mix position and addressed earlier coverage gaps. Visitors nevertheless report that audio can be strongest closer to the speaker arrays and less consistent at the room’s edges. For critical listening, begin near the central mix area and move if the balance is uneven.

Getting There and Parking

The address is 23 Meadow Street, between Waterbury and Bogart Streets. The nearest subway is the L train at Grand Street, approximately a seven-minute walk. From the station, walk east on Grand Street, turn south on Waterbury Street and then left onto Meadow Street. Montrose Avenue on the L is another practical option, generally about ten minutes away. Morgan Avenue is slightly farther but useful when meeting friends around the Johnson Avenue restaurants.

Nearby buses include routes serving Grand Street and the surrounding industrial area, notably the B60, Q54 and Q59. Overnight subway and bus service can involve longer waits or planned work, so allow extra time after late events. There is no official rideshare lane. Use the exact street address, but expect drivers to stop on Meadow Street, Waterbury Street or another nearby block when concert traffic prevents a door-front pickup.

The venue does not operate a dedicated public parking lot. Street parking can be found on Meadow, Waterbury, Scholes and neighboring industrial streets, particularly after nearby businesses close, but availability is unpredictable. Read every posted restriction carefully: loading zones, hydrants, alternate-side rules and commercial regulations remain enforceable at night. No nearby garage has a stable, venue-verified event rate, making the subway or rideshare more dependable than driving.

Inside the Venue

Entry normally involves an ID check, ticket scan and security search. All bags may be inspected, weapons are prohibited and security can refuse unsuitable equipment. Once inside, there is no re-entry, so bring everything you need and do not leave expecting to return. Smoking and vaping are prohibited indoors; the garden provides an outdoor alternative when open. Non-flash photography and ordinary cameras are allowed at most shows, although artist restrictions can override the standard policy.

The main room has bars on more than one side, which is worth remembering when the counter nearest the entrance develops a line. Restrooms are also located in different parts of the room, including facilities near the stage side. The late-night kitchen serves quick bites and comfort food, although menu selection and operating hours vary by event. Coat check is available, earplugs can be requested at the bar, and cash, major credit cards and on-site ATMs are supported.

Production features include a large indoor stage, house lighting, sound reinforcement and LED video walls, plus a second outdoor stage. A public line-by-line equipment inventory is not available, so touring engineers and private-event planners should obtain the current production specifications rather than assuming particular consoles, speaker brands, rigging points or stage measurements. Mobile reception can fluctuate inside the warehouse, and public guest Wi-Fi should not be assumed.

Nearby Amenities

The immediate blocks are industrial and relatively quiet, but more dining appears around Grand Street, Johnson Avenue and the Morgan Avenue L station. ICHIRAN offers ramen on Johnson Avenue, while Roberta’s, Momo Sushi Shack and Otis are useful pre-show choices around the Moore Street dining cluster. Graham Avenue and Grand Street have additional pizza, Latin American, Japanese and casual bar options. Check closing times before a late show because many kitchens no longer operate deep into the night.

Nova Hotel Brooklyn is among the closest conventional hotels, roughly half a mile from the venue near Morgan Avenue. More lodging is concentrated around central Williamsburg, including properties near the Bedford Avenue and Lorimer Street L stops. Staying near the L train is usually more useful than choosing a hotel solely by driving distance.

What Makes This Venue Special

The Brooklyn Monarch occupies a distinctive middle ground in New York nightlife. It is large enough for national touring packages and ambitious electronic production, yet its open floor, exposed structure and direct stage relationship retain the energy of a DIY room. The site stands across from the former Shea Stadium music space and beside the area once associated with The Paper Box, placing it within a Meadow Street tradition of independent performance.

Its cultural importance is clearest in the breadth of communities using it: New York hardcore institutions, young local bands, international metal tours, queer and Latin dance parties, Black punk programming, K-pop audiences, art shows and Brooklyn Comic Con. There is no public economic-impact study isolating the venue’s spending or employment. Its practical contribution is nevertheless visible through paid event work, promoter partnerships, artist opportunities and audiences supporting nearby restaurants, bars, hotels and transportation services.

Visitor Tips and Information

Age restrictions vary: some concerts are all ages or 18+, while many late-night dance events are 21+. Read the individual listing rather than assuming. For an age-restricted show, bring an unexpired physical driver’s license, passport or military ID; photographs and digital copies are not listed as acceptable. There is no dress code, but closed-toe shoes and light, breathable clothing are sensible for crowded rock shows or summer dance events.

The venue describes its spaces as ground-floor and wheelchair accessible and confirms an accessible restroom at The Brooklyn Monarch. However, the main public entrance has a short set of steps. Guests who require a step-free route or other accommodations should arrange assistance before the event or notify door staff immediately on arrival. Public information does not document a permanent ADA viewing platform, hearing loop, assisted-listening system or standardized sensory program.

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes before the first act if you want a comfortable entry, merchandise access and a central viewing position; allow longer for sold-out festivals or large hardcore bills. Bring ear protection, especially for metal, bass and hard-dance events. Summer visitors have reported uneven cooling in dense crowds, so hydrate, take breaks in the garden and avoid wearing a heavy coat unless you plan to use coat check.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is The Brooklyn Monarch’s capacity?

The current official maximum is 1,500 standing guests. Rental information also lists configurations for approximately 500 seated guests, although ordinary concerts are not presented with 500 reserved theater seats. Capacity can be reduced when large stages, production equipment, VIP areas, tables or barriers occupy the floor, so a particular event may sell fewer tickets than the building maximum.

Are shows seated or standing?

Public concerts and dance events are normally general-admission and standing-room only. There are no permanent seating sections or assigned rows. Some 21-and-over nightlife events offer reserved tables or bottle service, and private rentals can install chairs. Anyone unable to stand for a full event should request an accommodation in advance rather than expecting general seating to be available on arrival.

How much do Brooklyn Monarch tickets usually cost?

Smaller parties and local bills often begin around $15 to $35 before fees. Touring concerts commonly fall between $25 and $60, while festivals, international acts and major multi-band packages may cost $60 to $100 or more. Early-bird tickets are usually the cheapest. Premium tables and VIP access cost more, and resale prices should not be confused with original face value.

Can I buy tickets at the door?

Door sales may be offered when an event has remaining capacity, but they are not guaranteed and usually cost more than advance admission. The venue does not publish regular daytime box-office hours. For a popular hardcore reunion, K-pop appearance, touring metal package or electronic headliner, buying in advance is safer than traveling to Meadow Street and depending on last-minute availability.

What identification does the venue accept?

For 18+ and 21+ events, the venue lists physical, unexpired passports, driver’s licenses and military IDs as acceptable. A school ID may be accepted for an all-ages event. Digital copies, photographs of identification and expired documents are not included in the accepted list. The ticket holder should also bring the name or confirmation associated with any will-call order.

What is the closest subway station?

Grand Street on the L train is the closest station, about 0.23 miles or a seven-minute walk from the venue. Montrose Avenue is another convenient L stop, generally around ten minutes away. Morgan Avenue is slightly farther. Grand Street is usually simplest for visitors arriving from Manhattan because the walking route follows Grand Street and Waterbury Street directly to Meadow Street.

Does The Brooklyn Monarch have parking?

There is no dedicated venue parking lot or validated garage. Drivers rely on street spaces around Meadow, Waterbury, Scholes and nearby industrial blocks. Some spaces become available after working hours, but loading restrictions and other regulations remain in force. Arrive early, read every sign and expect to walk several blocks. Public transit is generally more predictable than finding legal event-night parking.

Where should a rideshare pick me up after the show?

The venue has no published rideshare zone. Enter 23 Meadow Street as the destination, but crowded nights may prevent a driver from stopping directly outside. A pickup on Waterbury Street, Bogart Street or another nearby corner can be easier. Confirm the vehicle and license plate before entering, remain with your group and avoid waiting in an active loading area.

What time do doors open and when do headliners perform?

Door times differ for every event and appear on the individual listing. The venue does not normally publish complete artist set times. Multi-band concerts may begin soon after doors, while late-night events can schedule headliners well after midnight. Arriving at the advertised door time is the only reliable strategy if seeing every performer matters, particularly when the bill contains several support acts.

What is the bag policy?

The venue does not publish a universal maximum bag measurement, but all bags are subject to a security search and weapons are prohibited. A small purse, waist pack or compact clear bag will generally make entry faster than a backpack. Event promoters may impose stricter rules. Bring only essentials and avoid professional camera cases, sharp accessories or anything security could reasonably consider dangerous.

Can I leave and re-enter?

No. The Brooklyn Monarch’s standard policy prohibits re-entry after a guest leaves. Plan around this rule by bringing identification, medication, weather protection and anything else needed for the night. The venue has bars, food and an outdoor area, so leaving for a smoke, meal or item in a car is normally unnecessary. Re-entry should not be expected even if a ticket remains visible.

Is food available inside?

Yes. The venue operates a kitchen that serves quick bites and comfort food, often late into the event. The exact menu, prices and closing time change with the night, and smaller concerts may offer a more limited selection. Eat beforehand if you have dietary requirements or need a full meal. The bars serve alcoholic drinks, soft drinks and nonalcoholic alternatives.

Does The Brooklyn Monarch have coat check?

Coat check is one of the venue’s advertised amenities and is especially useful during winter concerts and dance events. It normally involves an additional fee, and capacity can fill during busy late-night parties. Arrive early if checking a large coat or bag is important. Keep identification, medication, payment cards and anything needed during the event with you rather than inside checked property.

Is The Brooklyn Monarch wheelchair accessible?

The venue describes itself as wheelchair accessible, with a primarily ground-floor layout and an accessible restroom. The main entrance nevertheless has a short set of steps, so guests requiring a fully step-free route should request assistance before attending or speak with door staff immediately. A permanent raised viewing platform is not publicly documented, and event-specific floor plans may affect circulation and sightlines.

Can I take photos or video?

Cameras and non-flash photography are permitted at most events, but touring artists and promoters can impose stricter rules. A phone or compact camera is the safest choice. Professional cameras, detachable lenses, tripods and substantial recording equipment may require credentials. Never use flash in a performer’s face, block another guest’s view or assume that permission to photograph also includes permission to record complete songs.

Is smoking allowed?

Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside. When the outdoor garden is open, it provides space for smoking without leaving the ticketed venue, which matters because there is no re-entry. Security may hold or confiscate vaporizers at the door. Follow posted instructions and keep paths clear, since the garden may also function as a performance area or busy circulation route during festivals.

Does the venue get hot?

The main room has cooling and ventilation, but experiences vary with weather, crowd density and production layout. Some visitors find it comfortable, while others report hot areas during packed summer dance events. Wear layers you can remove, drink water and use the outdoor garden for breaks when permitted. Positions near the perimeter may feel cooler than the densely packed center of the dance floor.

Is there a dress code?

No formal dress code is advertised; the venue’s stated approach is to come as you are. Concert clothing, streetwear, rave fashion and costumes are common depending on the event. Choose footwear suitable for standing and crowded floors. Avoid chains, sharp spikes or accessories that may be treated as a safety risk, especially at hardcore shows, dance events and nights with more extensive security screening.
