About a.i. Warehouse

a.i. Warehouse is an industrial-style event venue at 530 Penn Street NE in Washington’s Union Market District. It remains open and active as of August 23, 2026, with an active Class C tavern license and additional electronic-music events announced through December 2026. The current space is both the permanent home of the A.i. event concept and a base for a brand that continues to produce roaming pop-ups elsewhere.

The venue occupies approximately 11,870 square feet. Its 2024 license application specified a total occupancy load of 1,160, with 450 seats inside and a 200-seat outdoor summer garden. Private-event listings sometimes advertise room for 1,200 standing or 800 in theater-style seating, but visitors should treat 1,160 as the more authoritative licensed figure unless an individual event imposes a lower limit.

Inside, the character is deliberately adaptable rather than architectural in the traditional theater sense: high ceilings, dark gray surfaces, a large open floor, a professional lighting grid, a mezzanine and an outdoor courtyard or garden. The DJ booth, stage orientation, projections and art installations can move between events. No verified public source provides the room’s exact length and width, a named architect, renovation budget or detailed construction chronology.

History of the A.i. Concept and Venue

A.i. began as a roaming Nü Androids event series rather than one fixed club. A documented 2019 secret-warehouse event paired Sonny Fodera and Dom Dolla. In 2021, the concept moved among secret warehouses, an open-air setting, a showroom and the Union Market rooftop, presenting Hot Since 82, SG Lewis, Monolink, Gorgon City and Black Coffee. Music was combined with projections, interactive art and environments created specifically for each artist.

During 2022, A.i. operated a more sustained warehouse program that the promoter now describes as the precursor to Culture, its later Ivy City venue. Verified 2022 bookings included Nic Fanciulli with LP Giobbi, Nü Yoga, Mochakk, Claude VonStroke, Channel Tres, Black Coffee, Justin Martin, Maceo Plex, Yung Bae and Diplo. The year concluded with a New Year’s Eve “warehouse closing” event. Because A.i. was a roaming and sometimes secret-location concept, older event databases do not always agree about which building hosted each show.

Culture and Vera became Nü Androids’ first permanent venues in 2023. During 2024, the organization prepared the Union Market operation at 530 Penn Street NE: District records show a new tavern-license application and approved one-day indoor live-music events for up to 850 guests in November. The promoter identifies 2025 as the formal debut of the present a.i. Warehouse, calling it the collective’s third and largest venue.

The venue’s licensed occupancy later required regulatory attention. In October 2025, the operator accepted a $1,000 settlement for increasing occupancy without prior approval. That history makes it especially important to rely on the posted event capacity and staff instructions rather than assuming that every configuration can accommodate the venue’s maximum load.

Events and Programming

The current warehouse primarily books house, techno, UK garage, Afro house, melodic electronic music and bass-driven club sounds. Its 2025 program included Austin Millz, Indo Warehouse, KlangKuenstler, salute, Sonny Fodera, Chris Lorenzo, Amelie Lens, Gorgon City, Ahmed Spins and Sara Landry. Other documented performers associated with the first year include Francis Mercier and DJ Habibeats. A planned 360-degree Yotto show was postponed, illustrating that configurations can be ambitious but schedules remain subject to change.

The 2026 calendar has broadened that profile. Verified events have included Mahmut Orhan, MK, Beltran, Röyksopp, Kasablanca, Chris Lorenzo, DJ Habibeats, Boris Brejcha, Notion, Le Youth, Maceo Plex with DJ Tennis and Hot Since 82. Community and genre-crossing programs have included Black Hause, HBD Cultur FM and a yoga session for runners, showing that the building is not used exclusively for conventional DJ nights.

As of August 23, 2026, the later-2026 program includes Josh Baker, Jigitz, Amelie Lens, Indo Warehouse, Kettama, Prospa, MPH and Francis Mercier. These bookings reinforce the venue’s emphasis on minimal and tech house, peak-time techno, UK garage and globally influenced house music. No confirmed 2027 or later program could be verified, so claims about programming beyond 2026 would be premature.

Most club events run for roughly five hours, commonly from 10 p.m. until 3 a.m. The headliner frequently appears after midnight, although exact set times are rarely released in advance. Historical and recent ticket evidence suggests that standard advance admission often falls around $25 to $60 before fees. Special headliners, late purchases and resale inventory can cost substantially more, while community parties may begin around $10 to $25.

Tickets and Booking

Buy through the primary checkout attached to the promoter’s official event announcement. The venue warns that it is not responsible for problems involving third-party resellers. Popular techno and house bookings can progress through several price tiers, so buying during the first release generally provides the best value. Many events are final sale and do not offer refunds, although a postponed or canceled event may have separate terms.

Table reservations include admission for the number of guests assigned to that table, usually six, ten or twelve depending on its location. The package also includes booth or bench seating, an expedited entrance and dedicated service. Table minimums apply before tax and gratuity; the published table policy adds 10 percent sales tax and 20 percent gratuity. General-admission tickets already purchased cannot normally be credited toward a table minimum.

Seating and Layout

Most electronic-music events are general admission and standing room. There are no conventional rows or permanently assigned concert seats. The main floor supplies the closest and most energetic experience, while the second-floor mezzanine contains private tables overlooking the crowd. Mezzanine Table 5 is described by the venue as the most centered table, positioned on its own platform facing the performance area.

The best viewing position depends heavily on that night’s production. A center-stage or 360-degree layout creates more viewing angles and generally makes circulation easier. When the booth is placed against a short wall, the crowd can become deeper and tighter from front to back. Recent visitors have reported both comfortable, spacious nights and congested events where reaching the bar or restroom was difficult. Mid-room or the back often provides more dancing space and a more complete view of the lighting.

The venue advertises a modern PA, projector capability, professional lighting equipment, Wi-Fi and production support. Custom wall projections, immersive visuals and changing art installations are central to the A.i. identity. No reliable technical rider naming the speaker manufacturer, subwoofer count, mixing console, lighting fixtures, stage dimensions or power distribution is publicly available, so more specific production claims should be avoided.

Getting There and Parking

a.i. Warehouse is at 530 Penn Street NE, near 5th Street in the Union Market District. NoMa–Gallaudet U is the nearest Metro station. From the station, use the Florida Avenue side, walk east on Florida Avenue and turn right on 4th or 5th Street NE toward Penn Street. Allow roughly 10 to 15 minutes, depending on the station exit and walking pace.

The venue does not operate its own public parking lot, and parking directly in front of the entrance is not available. Nearby choices include the Union Market surface lot, The Batley/La Cosecha garage, The Mo garage at 4th and Penn and the Gables Union Market garage. Many district-operated public facilities currently provide an initial free period followed by expensive hourly rates; closing times vary and should be considered before attending a 3 a.m. event.

Rideshare is usually the simplest late-night option. Use Penn Street for drop-off, but expect traffic and pedestrian congestion immediately after a large show. Moving one block toward 4th, 5th or 6th Street can make pickup easier. Friday and Saturday Metro service from NoMa currently ends around 2 a.m., approximately an hour before many warehouse events finish, so do not rely on the last train unless you plan to leave early.

Cyclists have Capital Bikeshare docks on 5th Street at Florida Avenue, 6th Street across from Union Market and Florida Avenue at 4th Street. The neighborhood also connects to protected bike infrastructure and the Metropolitan Branch Trail, although late-night riders should bring lights and confirm that dock space is available before the event.

Inside the Venue

Expect an ID check, ticket scan and line outside the Penn Street entrance. Table guests use a separate entrance to the left of the main doors, identified by a disco-ball marker. Everyone must carry a physical, valid government-issued ID; photographs and scans are not accepted. The venue has no formal dress code, but tops and bottoms are required, and it discourages open-toe shoes and high heels for safety.

The building contains a main bar, VIP service areas, restrooms, an outdoor courtyard or summer garden and a seasonal coat check opposite the main bar. Coat check generally operates from October through April, charges may vary and only one item is accepted per hanger. Drinks include alcoholic and nonalcoholic options, while table menus also cover beer, seltzers and other beverages. Food availability depends on the event, so eating in Union Market beforehand is the safer plan.

Visitor experiences vary noticeably with the artist and floor plan. Positive reports praise strong sound, easy rideshare access, flexible sightlines, a separate bar area and the large courtyard. Complaints have focused on restroom lines, crowd circulation and past periods when the room became uncomfortably warm. More recent accounts suggest the air-conditioning problem was not constant and describe some 2026 events as comfortable, but anyone sensitive to heat should pace alcohol consumption, take courtyard breaks and drink water.

Accessibility and Inclusive Facilities

The ground-level event space is advertised as wheelchair accessible and includes an accessible restroom and an accessible parking space in the surrounding area. However, no comprehensive public accessibility guide confirms elevator access to the second-floor mezzanine, reserved wheelchair platforms, assistive-listening equipment or every route through changing event layouts. Guests should therefore plan around the accessible main floor rather than assuming that all VIP areas are step-free.

Nü Androids describes its events as spaces for people from different backgrounds and states that discrimination and harassment are not tolerated. The venue reserves the right to remove guests who behave violently, disrespectfully or contrary to its conduct standards. In practical terms, the inclusive atmosphere can still vary by crowd, and visitors should immediately alert event staff if another guest is being harassed or appears medically distressed.

Nearby Amenities

Union Market is one of DC’s strongest neighborhoods for pre-show dining. Quick options are available inside the food hall, while nearby sit-down choices include St. Anselm, Pastis, Cordelia Fishbar, El Presidente, La’ Shukran and Masseria. Songbyrd provides a casual music-oriented stop close to the warehouse, while Last Call, Hi-Lawn, Sid Gold’s and several cocktail bars suit pre-event drinks. Kitchen hours vary, so eat before 9 p.m. when attending a 10 p.m. event.

Hotel Nell is the closest distinctive lodging option in the district, occupying a converted 1930s seed-company building and offering 106 rooms. The Morrow near NoMa and additional hotels around Union Station provide alternatives with straightforward Metro or rideshare access. Staying in Union Market is particularly useful when an event ends after the last Red Line train.

What Makes This Venue Special

The defining feature of a.i. Warehouse is that the room is intentionally not identical from show to show. A techno event may use a stark, low-light wall stage; a live electronic act may introduce a center installation; another night may surround the booth with projections or interactive art. That variability continues the original pop-up philosophy even though A.i. now has a permanent address.

Culturally, the venue fills the space between DC’s small specialist dance clubs and its largest concert-scale nightlife rooms. It can host internationally known DJs while retaining an open warehouse aesthetic and placing visitors within walking distance of restaurants, bars, apartments and Metro. The building has also hosted public community engagement and wellness programming, making it more than a weekend nightclub.

Its economic effect is difficult to isolate from Union Market’s wider development, but a capacity crowd of more than 1,000 people clearly generates activity for nearby restaurants, garages, hotels and rideshare drivers. The venue also expands the district’s cultural identity beyond food and retail, giving local DJs, visual artists, production crews and event workers access to a large adaptable room. This community impact is a reasonable inference from its size, programming and location rather than a published economic-impact study.

Visitor Tips and Information

Arrive 30 to 45 minutes after doors if you want to miss the initial line but still explore the room before it fills. Wear secure, comfortable shoes, carry a physical ID and consider musician-style earplugs. Do not assume a large backpack, professional camera or hydration vest will be accepted: the publicly available venue rules do not provide a complete general-admission bag list. Keep belongings compact and bring only what you need.

If dancing space matters more than proximity, start at the back or along a side and evaluate the stage orientation before moving forward. Use the restroom before the headliner and arrange a post-show pickup plan in advance. Most importantly, remember that reports about sound, temperature, crowd movement and sightlines differ because the warehouse’s physical production changes so dramatically between artists.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a.i. Warehouse still open?

Yes. As of August 23, 2026, a.i. Warehouse is operating at 530 Penn Street NE and has announced events through December 2026. Its District alcohol license is listed as active through September 30, 2028. This should not be confused with an older A.i.-associated warehouse in Ivy City that is shown as permanently closed.

What is the official capacity of a.i. Warehouse?

The strongest official figure is a total licensed occupancy load of 1,160. The license application also listed 450 indoor seats and 200 seats in the outdoor summer garden. Private-event profiles advertise up to 1,200 standing, but an individual concert may use a lower limit because the stage, bars, art installations and security lanes reduce usable floor space.

Is a.i. Warehouse indoors or outdoors?

The primary performance area is indoors, so concerts generally proceed regardless of ordinary rain. The venue also has a licensed outdoor summer garden or courtyard that may be used for seating, cooling-off space or event programming. Access to that area can vary by production, and severe weather may still affect outdoor components or entry procedures.

Are events at a.i. Warehouse 21 and over?

Nighttime electronic-music events are normally restricted to guests aged 21 or older, and the rule applies to both general admission and table service. Current listings consistently identify the shows as 21+. A daytime private, civic or wellness event may establish different admission conditions, but never assume that a concert is all-ages unless its own announcement explicitly says so.

What identification is accepted?

Bring the original physical document. Accepted forms include a valid US or Canadian driver’s license or government ID, passport, US military ID, Global Entry card or permanent-resident card. A temporary US motor-vehicle ID must be accompanied by the expired card it replaces. Photographs, scans, university cards, international driving permits and foreign driver’s licenses are not accepted as age identification.

How much do tickets usually cost?

Standard advance admission commonly begins around $25 to $60 before fees, depending on the artist and release tier. Smaller community parties may cost less, while internationally known techno headliners and late purchases can cost considerably more. Buying during the first announced release is usually the safest strategy because later tiers rise as the event approaches capacity.

Can I buy tickets at the door?

Door sales depend entirely on whether the event has remaining capacity. They should not be treated as guaranteed, particularly for major techno or house artists. Advance purchase through the promoter’s primary event checkout is the safer option. If door tickets are offered, the price may be higher than early online tiers, and entry will still require valid physical identification.

When does the headliner usually perform?

For a typical 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. event, the headliner often begins between midnight and 1 a.m. and may play until closing. This is only a pattern, not a rule. The venue says staff are not routinely supplied with publishable set times, and schedules are released only when the artist permits it. Arrive earlier if missing part of the performance would be disappointing.

Does a.i. Warehouse have assigned seating?

Most concerts do not. General admission is a standing dance floor, while seating is concentrated in private table sections on the second-floor mezzanine. The room can be converted to theater, banquet or dining arrangements for private and non-club events, so never use a seating chart from another event as proof of the layout for your show.

Where is the best place to stand?

Choose mid-floor for the best balance of sound, lighting and performer visibility. The front is more intense and crowded, while the rear usually offers additional dancing room and quicker access to exits. For center-stage productions, circulating around the booth can provide excellent views. For wall-stage layouts, approaching from a side is often easier than forcing a path directly through the center.

Is there parking at the venue?

No public parking is provided by a.i. Warehouse, and vehicles cannot park directly in front of the entrance. Use surrounding Union Market garages, paid lots or legal street spaces. Nearby garages include The Mo at 4th and Penn, The Batley/La Cosecha and Gables Union Market. Check the facility’s closing time before leaving a vehicle during a show ending at 3 a.m.

Can I take Metro home after the show?

Possibly, but not after a typical 3 a.m. finish. NoMa–Gallaudet U is the closest station, yet the last Red Line trains currently leave around 2 a.m. on Friday and Saturday and near midnight on other nights. Leave early if Metro is essential; otherwise, plan a rideshare, taxi, night bus, designated driver or nearby hotel.

Is a.i. Warehouse wheelchair accessible?

The principal ground-floor venue area is advertised as wheelchair accessible, with an accessible restroom and nearby accessible parking. A detailed official accessibility guide is not publicly available, and step-free access to the second-floor VIP mezzanine has not been verified. The main floor is therefore the more dependable option for guests who require an accessible route and flexible positioning.

Does a.i. Warehouse have a coat check?

Yes, but it is seasonal. The coat check is normally open from October through April and is positioned directly across from the main bar. Charges can vary, and the venue allows one item per hanger. Remove valuables from pockets before checking a coat because the published policy does not accept responsibility for objects left inside garments.

Is there a dress code?

There is no formal fashion-based dress code. The venue requires a top and bottom unless an individual event states otherwise. Open-toe footwear and high heels are strongly discouraged for safety. Comfortable sneakers or boots are the practical choice because most guests stand and dance for several hours, and routes between the floor, courtyard, bar and restrooms can become busy.

Can I bring a hydration pack, large bag or professional camera?

The venue’s publicly available general-admission information does not confirm a detailed bag-size, hydration-pack or camera policy. Do not assume that festival equipment or professional photography gear will be permitted. A small personal bag and phone are lower-risk choices. Any item required for medical reasons should be clearly identifiable, while liquids, sharp objects and bulky equipment may receive additional inspection or be refused.

Are food and drinks available?

The venue has a main bar serving alcoholic and nonalcoholic beverages, with additional bottle and table service in designated sections. Food service is event-dependent and should not be assumed for a late-night concert. Eat beforehand in Union Market, particularly if doors are at 10 p.m. Water and nonalcoholic drinks should be available from the bar during normal licensed events.

What does a VIP table include?

A table includes admission for the assigned party size, booth or bench seating, expedited entry and dedicated service. Depending on location, tables accommodate approximately six to twelve guests and occupy mezzanine sections overlooking general admission. The required minimum is spent on menu products and does not include the added 10 percent tax and 20 percent gratuity. Table wristbands do not provide backstage access.
