Events and Programming
Moustache Dive Bar is associated with live music, DJ-led dance nights and late-night bar programming in Te Aro. The strongest directly verifiable event record is “Kick Offs Volume 2”, held on 4 November 2022, an 18-plus house and techno night featuring Amy Jean, Malfi, Luna, Merisha and Lazy Daisy. The event was also filmed, making it part concert, part dance party and part live-production project. ticketfairy.com
The 2022 listing describes the venue as suitable for energetic electronic programming, with a light-up dancefloor, bars on both levels, a mezzanine overlooking the main floor and an outdoor balcony facing Courtenay Place. That points to a programming model built around dancing and close audience contact rather than seated theatre presentation. ticketfairy.com
Publicly indexed material does not provide a reliable year-by-year archive of every booking between 2021 and 2026. One dated 2022 event can be confirmed; no additional dated Moustache Dive Bar performances from 2021, 2023, 2024, 2025 or 2026 could be verified from accessible listings. It is therefore safer to describe the venue’s established format—small-scale music, DJs, nightlife and occasional filmed or themed events—than to invent a fuller calendar.
The available evidence suggests a venue that can move between live performance and club-style programming. The room’s compact footprint and layered levels suit local acts, electronic showcases, launch parties, dance events and promoter-led nights where the audience is expected to stand, move around and stay close to the performers.
Tickets and Booking
Ticketing appears to be event-specific rather than handled through a permanent venue box office. For the confirmed 2022 show, an early release sold out and a later release was listed at NZ$27.50 including fees. That provides a useful historical benchmark for a promoted club night, but it should not be treated as a current price for every event. ticketfairy.com
Expect prices to vary according to the promoter, line-up, production costs and whether the event is a standard gig, a filmed party or a special showcase. The most reliable approach is to check the live listing attached to the event itself, noting the age restriction, door time, release tier and whether entry is guaranteed only through advance purchase.
The 2022 listing demonstrates that popular releases can sell out before the event. For high-demand nights, buying as soon as tickets are released is more dependable than relying on door sales. No permanent box-office schedule, venue-wide presale policy or current door-sales rule could be verified.
About Moustache Dive Bar
Moustache Dive Bar is located at 132 Courtenay Place, Wellington, in the city’s main entertainment precinct. Commercial property records describe the premises as a 266-square-metre hospitality space with a bar near the street frontage, a small kitchen and amenities at the rear, a central high-stud atrium, a mezzanine, a second bar and a balcony above the verandah.
The building itself dates from the 1890s and has primarily timber framing, concrete flooring and an iron roof. It has undergone various refurbishments, and strengthening work was recorded in 2018 and again in 2021. The 2021 work was described as part of a scheme intended to raise the building to 67 percent of the New Building Standard.
The premises have carried several nightlife identities. Earlier council licensing records list Electric Avenue at 132 Courtenay Place, while a later venue description identifies Danger Danger as formerly Electric Avenue. A subsequent news report identifies Moustache Dive Bar as the same business formerly known as Danger Danger. The exact dates of each rebrand are not clearly documented in the available public record.
That succession matters because Moustache Dive Bar is best understood as part of a long-running Courtenay Place nightlife address rather than a purpose-built concert hall. Its significance is local and practical: it occupies an old central-city hospitality building that has repeatedly adapted to changing bar, club and entertainment fashions.
Seating and Layout
The venue is not presented as a conventional seated auditorium. The confirmed 2022 event described a main dancefloor, a mezzanine overlooking it, bars on both levels and a street-facing balcony. The promoter described the space as capable of holding 200 people for that event, but no official licensed capacity or permanent seating plan was located. ticketfairy.com
For music and DJ nights, visitors should expect general admission and predominantly standing-room viewing. The main floor is likely to offer the closest connection to the performance, while the mezzanine provides a higher, wider view of the crowd and dancefloor. The balcony is more useful for atmosphere and street views than for a guaranteed sightline to every performance area.
There is no published evidence of reserved seating, VIP boxes or a formal premium section. Because the room includes a high-stud atrium and multiple levels, sound and sightlines may change noticeably between the central floor, the edges of the room and the mezzanine. Arriving early is the best way to choose between proximity, space and a higher vantage point.
Getting There and Parking
The venue is at 132 Courtenay Place, near the Manners Street and Taranaki Street end of Courtenay Place. It sits within Te Aro’s dense nightlife area, where restaurants, bars, theatres and late-night businesses are close together. Courtenay Place is a recognised central-city transport corridor, with frequent bus connections and a dedicated bus interchange nearby.
From Wellington Railway Station, the practical public-transport route is to take a bus towards Courtenay Place and walk from the Courtenay Place stop. Walking from the station is also possible, although the distance is long enough that weather and late-night conditions should be considered. The central bus network includes services connecting Wellington Station, Lambton Quay and Courtenay Place.
No venue-owned car park or dedicated customer parking bays are identified in the available material. Street parking and nearby public car parks serve the wider Courtenay Place area, but spaces are limited and controls vary by street and time of day. Older council planning material recorded nearby metered parking at NZ$3.50–$4.50 per hour with short maximum stays; this is historical guidance, not a current price quote.
For rideshare or taxi drop-off, the Courtenay Place frontage is the most recognisable landmark. Allow extra time at busy periods, especially on Friday and Saturday nights, when pedestrian traffic and temporary traffic controls can slow vehicles. Late-night buses operate from Courtenay Place, but the final departure time depends on the route and date, so check the timetable before drinking.
Inside the Venue
The published descriptions suggest a compact, layered bar rather than a polished arena-style venue. Expect a street-facing bar, a second bar upstairs, a central atrium, a dancefloor and a balcony overlooking the street. The building’s timber structure, concrete floor and high stud give the venue a more industrial and characterful setting than a modern black-box club.
Drinks are central to the experience. The 2022 event specifically referred to bars operating on both levels, while the predecessor venue’s published description included drinks, pizza, live entertainment and DJs. A current food menu could not be verified, so visitors should not assume that a full meal service operates at every event. ticketfairy.com
There is no published technical inventory identifying the sound desk, loudspeaker models, microphone package, lighting fixtures or control system. The confirmed event does establish that the room can support amplified electronic music, a light-up dancefloor and a filmed live event. For production hires, those details should be confirmed directly with the promoter or venue before booking. ticketfairy.com
Event-specific instructions may apply. The 2022 event prohibited smoking inside, provided allocated smoking areas on both levels, asked patrons to report broken glass, required respectful behaviour and warned that attendance involved being filmed. Those rules may not apply identically to every event, but they show the level of conduct and production awareness expected at at least one major booking. ticketfairy.com
Nearby Amenities
Courtenay Place is one of Wellington’s most concentrated dining and nightlife areas, so visitors have many options for a meal or drink before a show. The surrounding Te Aro streets include restaurants, casual food venues, cocktail bars, pubs, theatres and late-night takeaway businesses. The area is particularly convenient for a short pre-show meal because most options are within a few minutes’ walk.
Accommodation is available throughout central Wellington, including around Courtenay Place, the waterfront and Lambton Quay. Staying nearby is useful after late events because it reduces reliance on a car and makes walking or a short taxi journey possible. The precinct can become crowded and noisy late at night, so visitors seeking a quiet stay should check the room’s position before booking.
Arrive early if you need time to find parking, collect tickets, pass an entry queue or choose a comfortable viewing position. For a general-admission dance event, arriving shortly before doors may mean standing at the back or spending more time waiting at the bar.
What Makes This Venue Special
Moustache Dive Bar’s strongest point is its combination of an old central-city building and a flexible nightlife layout. The high-stud atrium, mezzanine, second bar and balcony create several levels of activity within a relatively compact footprint. That arrangement gives promoters more options than a single flat room while retaining the closeness associated with a small bar venue.
The venue also reflects the way Wellington’s Courtenay Place has evolved. The address has supported successive entertainment businesses, and the precinct remains a major hospitality and nightlife destination. Moustache Dive Bar was included among the businesses consulted during the city’s Courtenay Place revitalisation planning, showing that its operation forms part of the wider local business and cultural ecosystem.
No independent study was found measuring Moustache Dive Bar’s individual economic contribution, employment impact or audience reach. Its more defensible cultural role is as a small venue within Wellington’s wider nightlife economy: a place where promoters can stage music-led events without the scale or formality of a theatre, arena or festival site.
Visitor Tips and Information
The confirmed event was R18, so visitors should carry approved photo identification for age checks. Age restrictions can vary between bookings, and the event listing—not the venue name alone—should determine whether a particular show is suitable for under-18s. The same event also included filming consent, so anyone attending a recorded performance should expect to appear in crowd footage. ticketfairy.com
No venue-specific public information confirms a step-free entrance, accessible toilet, lift access to the mezzanine, accessible viewing position or hearing-support equipment. The mezzanine is described as being reached by a steel stairway, but the available records do not identify the full access arrangement. Visitors who require step-free entry, seating, an accessible toilet or a support-person arrangement should verify those details before purchasing.
Large bags may be inconvenient in a standing-room venue with a compact dancefloor, even though a formal bag policy was not located. Travel light, wear comfortable shoes and consider hearing protection for amplified music. There is no verified information about a coat check, lockers, merchandise desk or public Wi-Fi, so do not rely on those facilities being available.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is Moustache Dive Bar in Wellington?
Moustache Dive Bar is associated with 132 Courtenay Place in Te Aro, Wellington. The address is near the Manners Street and Taranaki Street end of Courtenay Place, within the city’s main nightlife precinct. Commercial records describe the premises as a 266-square-metre bar and hospitality site with a street frontage, mezzanine and balcony.
What events are held at Moustache Dive Bar?
The verified programme includes live music, DJ-led nights, electronic dance events and filmed party-style performances. A confirmed 2022 booking presented house and techno across a five-artist line-up. The venue’s two-level arrangement, dancefloor and bars make it more suited to standing, dancing and close-up entertainment than formal seated concerts. ticketfairy.com
Are there confirmed Moustache Dive Bar events in 2026?
No dated 2026 Moustache Dive Bar event could be independently verified in the publicly indexed material reviewed for this guide. That does not establish that no events exist; it means a reliable 2026 archive was not available. Use the live event listing attached to this page for current shows, ticket availability, door times and age restrictions.
What is the ticket price range?
Prices vary by promoter and event. The clearest historical example is the November 2022 “Kick Offs Volume 2” event, where a later release was listed at NZ$27.50 including fees and an earlier release had sold out. Current prices should be checked event by event rather than inferred from that older listing. ticketfairy.com
Can I buy tickets at the door?
A permanent door-sales policy could not be verified. Because the documented 2022 event had a sold-out earlier release, visitors should not assume entry will be available on the night. If door sales are offered, they may stop when the venue reaches its event capacity. Advance purchase is the safer option for popular bookings.
Does Moustache Dive Bar have reserved seating?
No published seating chart or reserved-seat arrangement was found. The venue is described as a dancefloor-oriented, multi-level bar, so most music events should be treated as general admission and primarily standing-room. There may be peripheral bar seating or places to pause, but those should not be considered guaranteed seats for a particular show. ticketfairy.com
What is the capacity of Moustache Dive Bar?
A 2022 event promoter described the venue as fit for 200 people, but no official licensed capacity was located. The building contains 266 square metres of hospitality space, which is not the same as an audience capacity. Actual numbers can change according to event layout, furniture, production equipment, licensing conditions and emergency egress requirements.
Does the venue have a balcony or mezzanine?
Yes. Published property information describes a high-stud central atrium, a mezzanine reached by steel stairs, a second bar and a balcony above the street verandah. Event material says the mezzanine overlooks the light-up dancefloor, making it a useful elevated viewing area when the room is configured for dancing.
Is Moustache Dive Bar wheelchair accessible?
Publicly available venue information does not confirm a step-free entrance, accessible toilet, lift, accessible viewing area or other specific provisions. The mezzanine is described as being accessed by a steel stairway. Anyone requiring step-free entry or accessible facilities should verify the arrangement before booking, because the available records are not sufficient to confirm full accessibility.
What age restriction applies?
At least one confirmed event was marked R18. Other bookings may use different restrictions, but visitors should expect many evening music and club events to be adults-only because alcohol service and late-night programming are central to the venue. Bring approved photo identification and check the individual event’s age guidance before travelling. ticketfairy.com
Is smoking allowed inside?
The documented 2022 event prohibited smoking inside and identified allocated smoking areas on both levels. That instruction is consistent with New Zealand indoor smoking restrictions, but event managers may organise outdoor areas differently. Follow the instructions given at entry and do not assume that vaping or smoking is permitted anywhere inside the building. ticketfairy.com
Does Moustache Dive Bar serve food?
The predecessor venue’s published description referred to pizza and drinks, while the 2022 event confirmed bars on both levels. A current food menu or guaranteed kitchen service could not be verified. If you need a substantial meal, plan to eat in the surrounding Courtenay Place area before the event rather than relying on food being available inside.
Is there parking at the venue?
No private venue car park or reserved customer spaces are identified in the available records. Visitors generally need to use nearby metered street parking or a public parking building. Older council planning material recorded short-stay metered parking around Courtenay Place, but rates and time limits change, so that historic figure should not be treated as current pricing.
How do I reach the venue by public transport?
Courtenay Place is served by Wellington’s central bus network, with connections from Wellington Railway Station, Lambton Quay and surrounding suburbs. The practical route is to travel to a Courtenay Place stop and walk along the street frontage to number 132. Timetables, stop letters and late-night services can change, especially during city works or special events.
What is the building’s history?
The building at 132 Courtenay Place dates from the 1890s and has been refurbished several times. Licensing and venue records document earlier identities including Electric Avenue and Danger Danger before the Moustache Dive Bar name. The exact dates of the changes are not clearly published, but the address has a long-established connection with Wellington’s late-night hospitality scene.
What sound and lighting equipment does the venue use?
No detailed equipment list was found. The confirmed event shows that the room can support amplified house and techno, a light-up dancefloor, multi-level audience viewing and live filming. Specific speakers, consoles, microphones, lighting fixtures, video equipment and stage dimensions should be confirmed with the promoter for any production, performance or venue-hire requirement. ticketfairy.com
What should I bring to an event?
Bring your ticket or booking confirmation, approved photo identification for R18 events and a phone with enough battery for entry information or transport planning. Comfortable shoes and hearing protection are sensible for standing or dancing. Keep bags small because the venue is layered and compact. Do not bring outside alcohol, and follow any event-specific filming, smoking and conduct rules.
