# Let buyers pay for tickets in installments

If a fan can't pay the full weekend ticket price up front, they don't buy at all. With a payment plan, they pay a deposit at checkout and the rest in installments on the schedule you set, and you choose the date we cancel an order that stops paying. If you're a festival promoter selling higher-priced tickets, you keep those buyers.

Durée: 6 minutes

- [Turn on Enable payment plan](#step-2)
- [Choose the number of installments and how often](#step-3)
- [Choose when the last installment is due](#step-4)
- [Choose how the first installment is worked out](#step-5)
- [Enter the first installment amount](#step-6)

## Avant de commencer

- You need an owner or admin role on the event.
- Your event takes card payments through Ticket Fairy's card checkout or a Stripe account you connected. Payment plans also work on events that take payment through TF Pay. To set one up on a TF Pay event, book a demo with Ticket Fairy.
- Your event has no sales yet. Once the event has an order, you can't change its payment plan settings on the dashboard.

1. ## Open Payments

Open your event and select **Payments**. The **Payment Plans** section is on that page.

![Payment plan settings with four monthly payments and a fixed deposit](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-payment-plans--settings.png)
   *Event, Payments, Payment Plans.*
2. ## Turn on Enable payment plan

Turn on **Enable payment plan**. The plan applies to this event only, and to every ticket type on it.
3. ## Choose the number of installments and how often

Choose the **Number of installments**, up to 15, and choose **Weekly** or **Monthly** under **Duration**.

**Remarque:** Monthly means every 30 days, counted from the day each buyer buys. A buyer who buys late gets fewer installments, because Ticket Fairy offers only the whole weeks or months that finish before the last installment.
4. ## Choose when the last installment is due

Under **Last installment**, choose how many weeks before the event the final payment is taken, from 1 to 6.

**Conseil:** Leave time before the event so Ticket Fairy can try a failed payment again.
5. ## Choose how the first installment is worked out

Under **First installment**, choose one way. The remaining installments are always split evenly.

   - **Evenly distributed installments**: The buyer pays the same amount at checkout and at every installment.
   - **Fixed down payment**: The buyer pays an amount you set at checkout, once per order or once per ticket.
   - **Percentage of order total**: The buyer pays a share of the order at checkout, from 1% to 100%.
6. ## Enter the first installment amount

If you chose a fixed amount, choose **Per order** and enter the **Down payment amount**, or choose **Per ticket** and enter the **Down payment per ticket**. If you chose a percentage, enter the **Down payment percentage**.

**Remarque:** On an event sold in more than one currency, **Different deposit per currency** lets you set a fixed amount for each currency.
7. ## Choose when unpaid orders are canceled

Under **Order cancellation**, choose how many weeks before the event we cancel an order that still has unpaid installments.

**Remarque:** This has to be fewer weeks than the last installment, so a buyer has time to catch up. By default, you keep the first installment of every canceled plan.
8. ## Preview what buyers see

Select **Preview** to open the **Customer preview** of the installments a buyer is offered at checkout.
9. ## Save the payment plan

Select **Save**, or **Update** when you change a plan you saved before. You see "Saved successfully" when the plan is on.
10. ## Check the plan on your event page

Open your event page and check that the payment plan shows above the ticket types, with its lowest first installment.

## Ou faites-le faire pour vous

Fai, votre coéquipière IA, peut vérifier les ventes, mettre à jour votre événement ou modifier un billet à votre demande.

Fai can set up or turn off an event's payment plan. She shows you the settings and asks you to approve them before she saves, because they change how buyers pay. The command line and MCP have no payment plan commands.

### Dans votre tableau de bord, avec Fai

```
Set up a payment plan on <EVENT NAME> with 4 monthly installments, the last one 2 weeks before the event, unpaid orders canceled 1 week before the event, and a fixed £50 first installment per order; show me the settings before you save
```

## Follow the installments as they come in

1. ### Open the Payment Plan tab

Open your event, select **Orders** and select the **Payment Plan** tab to see every order still paying in installments.

Follow installments on the Payment Plan tab of the Orders page.

## Questions que vous pourriez avoir

**How do I set up a payment plan so buyers pay for tickets in installments?**

Open your event, select **Payments** and turn on **Enable payment plan**. You choose the first installment, the number of payments, weekly or monthly, when the last payment is due and when an unpaid order is canceled.

**When exactly is each payment taken?**

Each buyer pays at the weekly or monthly spacing you set, counted from the day they bought, where monthly means every 30 days rather than the same date each month. The date the last installment is due decides how close to the event a buyer can still start a plan.

**Can I run a plan on some tickets and not others?**

No. The payment plan applies to the event, not selected ticket types. Checkout hides the plan when an order is too small to divide into payments above the minimum card charge.

**Does a discount code work with a plan?**

Yes, but it can also take the order below what a plan needs. If the deposit would be as much as the discounted total or more, or the payments would fall below the smallest amount a card can be charged, checkout doesn't offer the plan.

**What happens if a payment fails?**

Ticket Fairy retries the payment automatically before your team has to act. Check your plan orders a few days after each collection date, because an expired card is the usual cause and the buyer normally still wants to come.

**If I change the plan later, what happens to people who already bought?**

Nothing, because the settings lock before that can happen. Until your event makes its first sale you can change the deposit, the number of payments, how often they fall and the cancellation window freely. From the first sale, you can't change the plan settings in the dashboard, including turning plans off. Until a buyer starts a plan, Fai or Ticket Fairy Support can still make a change for you. Once a buyer has started a plan, only Ticket Fairy Support can change it, so buyers who are already paying aren't moved onto different terms by accident.
