On January 25, 2022, French President Emmanuel Macron took to [Twitter](https://twitter.com/EmmanuelMacron/status/1486033113499279360?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1486033113499279360%7Ctwgr%5E%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.firstpost.com%2Fworld%2Ffrance-officially-bans-lgbtq-conversion-therapy-what-you-need-to-know-10324521.html) stating “The law prohibiting conversion therapy is adopted unanimously.”  Anyone convicted under this new law would be fined or face a lengthy jail term. As reported by [BBC]() , the European Island of Malta became the first European nation in 2016 to ban conversion therapy. A study by Cornell University, a privately-financed research university in Ithaca, New York, stated that “there is no credible evidence that sexual orientation can be changed through therapeutic intervention”.
