The Scandinavian nation is adding a new gender-neutral pronoun to its official language and dictionaries. “Hen” would be an alternate term to the feminine pronoun “hun” and masculine pronoun “han”. The decision was confirmed by The Language Council of Norway. These pronouns will be part of both Norway’s written local languages ‘Bokmål’ (Book Language) and ‘Nynorsk’ (New Norwegian). It will enter the language within the year. “Over the years, we have seen that it (the gender neutral pronoun) has become increasingly used. In the beginning, there was a proposal that it should be used, but in recent years it has been increasingly used in newspaper texts and academic use,”  [said](https://www.nrk.no/trondelag/sprakradet-onsker-a-innfore-ordet-hen-som-et-personlig_-kjonnsnoytralt-pronomen-1.15834914)  Section Manager of the Language Council, Daniel Ims. In 2019, the French dictionary ‘Le Petit Robert’ added ‘iel’ and ‘iels’ as official non-binary pronouns.
