We want musicians to keep making music, and for fans to have confidence that the music they find on Bandcamp was created by humans.” Bandcamp, founded in 2008, boasts a dedicated fan base that can purchase music, CDs, and merchandise from artists on the platform. Unlike being paid as per streams accumulated on audio streaming platforms, the artist receives a portion of the sales they have made on Bandcamp. “Musicians are more than mere producers of sound. They are vital members of our communities, our culture, and our social fabric. They added that “any use of AI tools to impersonate other artists or styles is strictly prohibited in accordance with our existing policies prohibiting impersonation and intellectual property infringement.” With this move, Bandcamp makes sure that the platform prioritizes human creativity and that fans and users can stay assured that there are policies in place to take down music or audio made by employing generative AI. Bandcamp users can continue to support musicians and artists who are making music themselves. “If you encounter music or audio that appears to be made entirely or with heavy reliance on generative AI, please use our reporting tools to flag the content for review by our team.
