Group your tickets into categories Setting up an event # Group your tickets into categories With day passes, weekend passes and several price releases on one list, a buyer reads every line before choosing. Festival and conference teams group those tickets around the choice a buyer is making, and the event page shows each group under its own heading. Group day passes, weekend passes and price releases into categories so buyers can find the right ticket quickly. Create the ticket types you want to group before you start. 1. ## Create categories for the choices buyers make Open your event, go to **Tickets**, find **Ticket Categories** and select **Create**. **Note:** Category names are not case-sensitive. For a multi-day festival, that might be Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Full Weekend; for a venue, an area. 3. ## Put each ticket type into its category In the same dialog, under **Ticket types in this category**, pick every ticket type that belongs to the category, then select **Create Category**. You can also open one ticket type on the same page and pick the category under **Ticket Category**; a ticket type starts on **No category**, which keeps it in the main list. **Note:** Categories work best around the choice a buyer is making, such as Friday or Weekend, rather than around a price release. Early Bird and Final Release can then appear together under the same category. ![The Ticket Category field in the Ticket Fairy ticket type form, set to General Admission](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-tickets--category-selected.png) Event, Tickets, ticket type form, Ticket Category. 4. ## Choose which ticket type the waiting list resells Choose the ticket type the waiting list resells under **Resale Type**. - **Current Tier**: A returned ticket is resold as the first ticket type in the category that still has tickets, or the final one when every release has sold out. - **Final Tier**: A returned ticket is always resold as the final ticket type. **Note:** Keep tickets together only when buyers receive the same admission. If they offer a different entry time, seating area or type of admission, use separate categories so the waiting list offers the right ticket. 5. ## Look at your event page the way a buyer does Open your event page and look through the tickets. Each category with at least one visible ticket type appears as a heading, and a ticket left on **No category** stays in the main list. **Note:** A **Ticket Group** name takes priority over the category name, and a ticket named in the "\[VIP\] Weekend" style uses the name in brackets as its heading; remove the other heading when you want the category name to appear. No credit card required. ## Rename a ticket category In **Ticket Categories**, select the category row or choose **Edit**. Enter the new **Category Name**, then select **Update Category**. **Note:** The tickets stay in the category and keep their prices, allocations and sale dates. Fai can rename the category without changing its tickets or resale type. MCP and the CLI do not manage ticket categories. ### In your dashboard, with Fai Find the ticket category \ on \, show me its ticket types and resale type, then rename it to \ without changing anything else ## Change which ticket types are in a category In **Ticket Categories**, select the category row or choose **Edit**, add or remove ticket types under **Ticket types in this category**, then select **Update Category**. A ticket type you remove goes back to **No category** and stays on sale in the main list. **Note:** A ticket type belongs to one category at a time. When you pick a ticket type that is in another category, it moves to this one. Fai can set the ticket types in a category in one step. MCP and the CLI do not manage ticket categories. ### In your dashboard, with Fai Put \ in the ticket category \ on \ and take every other ticket type out of it ## Delete a ticket category Choose the trash button on the category row, check the category named in the confirmation, then select **Delete**. **Note:** Deleting a category does not delete its ticket types or take them off sale. Fai can show the tickets that will return to the main list, then delete the category after you approve it. MCP and the CLI do not manage ticket categories. ### In your dashboard, with Fai Find the ticket category \ on \ and list every ticket type in it. Confirm that the tickets will stay on sale, then ask before deleting only the category ## Questions you might have Do categories change what a ticket costs?: No. Each ticket type keeps its price, allocation and sale dates. Categories help buyers compare the tickets, while **Resale Type** decides which ticket type the categorized waiting list offers. What happens to a ticket type I never put in a category?: It remains on sale in the main ticket list. New ticket types start with **No category**, so you only need to change the tickets you want to group. Are ticket categories copied when I duplicate an event?: Yes. A duplicate includes every category with its name and resale type, and the copied ticket types remain in their categories. An event with time slots offers a **Ticket Types** box on the duplicate dialog, and unticking it copies neither the ticket types nor their categories. Why does my time-slot event show no category headings?: Time-slot events show tickets by entry time. Use a separate category for each time slot when you also use the categorized waiting list. Can I put tickets from two time slots in one category?: Use a separate category for every time slot and kind of admission. This prevents a returned ticket from being offered for a different entry time, seating area or kind of admission. Can one ticket type be in two categories?: No. Each ticket type can belong to one category at a time, so picking a second one replaces the first. To show the same offer in two categories, create a separate ticket type for each category. Why does my category show no tickets?: The category is empty because none of your ticket types use it yet. Edit the category and pick them under **Ticket types in this category**, or open each ticket type that belongs in it and set its **Ticket Category**. ## Still have a question?
