# Post an update to fans when your event changes

When a show is postponed, a headliner pulls out or the weather closes the site, festival and club promoters need their on-sale posts stopped and their fans told what to do. Post an update does the social side of that in one step, in your own words, so a scheduled ticket post doesn't go out after the news. Nothing reaches your fans until someone on your team approves it.

Tell every fan who follows your social accounts what changed about your event in one step. Post an update pauses the event's scheduled promotional posts, drafts an update post for each account for you to approve, and saves a reply your team can send when fans ask, and you resume the posts when it's over.

For: Telling fans on social what changed about your event

Takes: 5 minutes

- [Open Social Home](#step-1)
- [When to post an update](#step-2)
- [Start the update for your event](#step-3)
- [Enter what happened](#step-4)
- [Optional: tell fans what to do](#step-5)
- [The three update steps](#step-6)
- [Choose what happens](#step-7)
- [Choose where the drafts wait](#step-8)
- [Check the summary and confirm](#step-9)
- [Approve the update drafts](#step-10)
- [Check the update is in progress](#step-11)

## Before you start

- You're an owner or an admin of the brand. If you can't see Post an update, ask an owner or an admin to post it.
- Your Instagram account or Facebook Page is connected to the brand.

1. ## Open Social Home

Open your brand, select **Social** and then **Home**.

**Note:** **Upcoming events** lists your events with what is planned for each one.
![Ticket Fairy Social Home Upcoming events with the posts planned, drafts waiting and tickets sold for each event, and Post an update on each row](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-social-home--upcoming-events.png) Upcoming events on Social Home, with Post an update on each event.

## When to post an update

Post an update when fans need to hear that your event changed: it is canceled or postponed, it moves venue, the lineup changes, or there is a weather or safety notice. For good news, such as a new act or a new ticket release, create an ordinary post in Content, because an update pauses the event's promotional posts.

2. ## Start the update for your event

Select **Post an update** beside the event.

**Tip:** On **Content**, choose **One event** above the calendar, and the same button sits above that event's calendar.
3. ## Enter what happened

Enter what changed in **What happened**, in your own words.

**Note:** The buttons above it, such as **Postponed** and **Weather**, start the sentence for you to change. It takes up to 1,000 characters.
![Ticket Fairy Post an update dialog at its first step, with the quick picks, what happened and what fans should do entered for a postponed event](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-social-home--post-update.png) Post an update, with what happened entered.
4. ## Optional: tell fans what to do

Optional: Enter what fans should do in the box under What happened, then select **Next**.

**Note:** It takes up to 500 characters, such as whether their ticket still works.

## The three update steps

Each step is on when your event has something for it, and you can turn any of them off.

- **Pause this event's scheduled promotional posts**: Every post for the event that is scheduled or waiting for approval is paused, up to 500 at a time. A paused post keeps its words and its time, and nothing goes out until you resume it.
- **Draft an update post for every account**: The assistant drafts one post for each network your event's accounts are on, in your brand's voice, from what happened and with no ticket link. Nothing is posted until someone approves the draft.
- **Load a ready reply for this situation**: Saves a reply with your event's name in it, which your team can send from Messages. The replies the assistant drafts for fans' questions start from what happened.

5. ## Choose what happens

Turn on the steps you want under **What we'll do**.

**Note:** Each step says how many posts it pauses or which networks get a draft.
![Ticket Fairy Post an update dialog at What we'll do, pausing four promotional posts, drafting an update for Instagram and Facebook and loading a ready reply](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-social-home--post-update-actions.png) What we'll do, with every step on.
6. ## Choose where the drafts wait

Choose under **When the drafts are ready**.

   - **Let me approve them in the Assistant**: The drafts wait in the Assistant, where your team can edit and approve them.
   - **Let me review them here and post them straight away**: Each draft opens in this dialog once it is ready, and approving it posts it straight away.
7. ## Check the summary and confirm

Select **Next**, read the summary, then select **Confirm**.

**Note:** The summary says how many posts it pauses, which networks get a draft and whether a reply is saved.
![Ticket Fairy Post an update dialog at Review and confirm, summarizing the posts it pauses, the drafts it prepares, the reply it saves and what happened](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-social-home--post-update-review.png) Review and confirm.
8. ## Approve the update drafts

Select **See drafts**, then approve each update post on its card.

**Note:** The drafts are ready a few seconds after you confirm. An update draft has no time set, so it posts as soon as you approve it.
**Tip:** **Email ticket holders** opens the event's Messaging page, for the buyers who don't follow you on social.
9. ## Check the update is in progress

Open **Home** again. The event carries a banner with what happened, how many posts are paused and who started the update.
![Ticket Fairy Social Home Upcoming events with an update in progress on one event, its promotional posts paused, and Resume promotional posts and See drafts](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-social-home--update-in-progress.png) Upcoming events, with the update in progress.

## Or have it done for you

Fai, the assistant inside your dashboard, tells you what an update would pause and which accounts get a draft, then posts the update for you with your words and the steps you choose. She asks before she starts it and before she resumes the posts, because both change posts your team scheduled. The update drafts wait in the Assistant for your approval.

## Resume the promotional posts

1. ### Start the resume

Select **Resume promotional posts** in the event's banner.

**Note:** Each paused post goes back to how it was. A post whose time passed while it was paused comes back as a draft, and a post a teammate canceled stays canceled.
![Ticket Fairy confirmation before resuming an event's four paused promotional posts, saying a post whose time passed comes back as a draft](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-social-home--resume-posts.png) The confirmation before the posts resume.
2. ### Confirm it

   Select **Resume posts**.

**Note:** The banner goes and the update is over. A post that was waiting for approval waits for an owner or admin to approve it, as it did before the pause.

Fai resumes an event's paused promotional posts and tells you how many came back scheduled, waiting for approval or as drafts. She asks before she resumes them.

## Questions you might have

Does Post an update cancel or move the event?: No. It changes what you post on social. To cancel the event and refund your buyers, or give it a new date, change the event itself.

What do fans see?: Nothing until someone approves an update draft, which then posts on that account. From then on, fans who ask get replies drafted from what happened, and the event's promotional posts stay paused.

What happens to our auto-replies for the event?: While the posts are paused, an auto-reply that sends the ticket link, a presale sign-up or a guest list invitation sends the fan your update instead, using what fans should do. It answers them as usual again after you resume, and answers about the event start from what happened.

What happens to a paused post?: It keeps its words and its time, and Content shows it as **Paused**. You can't edit or publish it while it is paused, and you can cancel it.

Does the assistant keep drafting posts for the event?: No. The event's promotional drafts already waiting in the Assistant are withdrawn when the update starts, and the Social Assistant drafts no new posts for the event's stages, such as the last chance, until you resume.

Can we schedule a new post for the event while the update is in progress?: You can save it as a draft. Scheduling, publishing or approving a promotional post for the event shows a message such as "Promotional posts for Nightjar Winter Social are paused while your update is in progress. Resume them from the banner first." The update posts themselves go out as usual.

Two of us started an update at the same time. What happened?: The first one counts, and nothing is paused or drafted twice. The second person sees "An update is already in progress" and the update already running.

Who can resume the posts?: An owner or an admin. Everyone else who can see the banner sees it without Resume promotional posts.

How do buyers who don't follow us hear about it?: Email them. **Email ticket holders** opens the event's Messaging page after you confirm the update.
