Setting up an event
Postpone or reschedule an event
Tell ticket holders that plans have changed, publish the new date when it is ready and choose who can request a refund.
- For
- Changing the date of an event that has already been announced
- Takes
- 8 minutes
What you need before you start
- You are an owner or admin for the event. The Event Status controls are unavailable after the event has ended or after its funds have been paid out.
- You know whether to announce the new date now or keep it hidden while you confirm the venue, artists and suppliers.
- You have decided which ticket holders can request a refund. Check any commitments in your terms, artist and venue agreements before choosing.
-
Open Event Details and select Postpone Event
Open the event and select Event Details. In Event Status, select Postpone Event.
Use postponement when the event will still happen. Cancelling the event starts a different workflow.
-
Choose whether to show the new date
Choose Show new date when the replacement date is confirmed. Choose Hide new date when you need to announce the postponement before the new date is ready.
Hiding the date keeps the postponement visible without publishing dates that may change.
Event Details, Event Status, Postpone Event. -
Enter the new start and end
Enter the new Start Date and End Date. Check the time as well as the day, especially when the event runs past midnight.
Ticket Fairy sends the postponement email to ticket holders after you confirm the new dates. It removes the old sales start and check-in times, and moves the sales end to the new start, so review those times after postponing.
-
Choose when the postponement notice ends
Under Postponement banner will be shown until, enter the date and time when the postponement period should end.
After this time, the postponement notice ends and scheduled event reminders and subscriber emails may resume. Set it after the time when you expect to remove the postponed status, and extend it if your plans take longer.
-
Choose who can request a refund
Choose Refund all tickets to let eligible paid ticket holders request a refund. Choose Refund tickets purchased before event was postponed to limit that option to tickets bought before the postponement. Choose No automatic refunds when requests will follow the policy you enter and your team will handle them individually.
These choices control refund eligibility. They do not issue every refund when you select Postpone Event. Only paid tickets that remain valid or are listed for resale can use the self-service refund option.
-
Confirm the postponement and review the event
Select Postpone Event, read the date-reminder confirmation and select Confirm. Reopen the event and check the public page, ticket sale end, doors time, last entry, ticket-level entry times and any scheduled messages against the new date.
The event page and tickets now use the new event dates. Any other times you set separately still need your review.

Remove the postponed status
-
Turn off self-service refunds if they should end
Select Update Postponement. Choose No automatic refunds, then select Save Changes and Confirm. Skip this step when ticket holders should still be able to request refunds under the current policy.
Removing the postponed status does not change the refund choice. Turn off self-service refunds first when that option should end with the postponement.
-
Select Remove Postponed Status
Back in Event Status, select Remove Postponed Status when you no longer need the postponement notice.
-
Confirm the change
Read whether the event content will remain visible or hidden, then select Remove Postponed Status. Check the public event page afterward.

Reinstate a cancelled event
-
Ask Ticket Fairy support to reinstate the event
Contact Ticket Fairy support with the event name and ID. Reinstatement is restricted because cancellation affects orders, refunds and ticket resale.

Review resale invitations and confirm
Support checks whether existing resale invitations should be invalidated, then confirms the reinstatement. Review the event page, tickets, sale windows and refund status before announcing that the event is available again.

Questions you might have
- Will postponing the event refund every order?
- No. The refund choice decides which eligible paid ticket holders can request a refund. Postponing does not issue every refund immediately.
- When are ticket holders emailed?
- Ticket Fairy sends the postponement email after you confirm a postponement or save an update. Check every saved update as carefully as the first announcement.
- What happens to the old event dates?
- Ticket Fairy keeps the original start and end as part of the postponement record and uses the new dates on the event. Removing the postponed status keeps the current dates.
- Can I postpone an event after its funds have been paid out?
- No. The Event Status action is unavailable after the event funds have been paid out. Contact Ticket Fairy support with the event ID and the change you need to make.
- Should I postpone or cancel?
- Postpone when the event will happen on a later date. Cancel when the event will not take place. Cancellation has its own order, refund and reinstatement checks.
