Setting up an event

# Postpone or reschedule an event

Tell ticket holders that plans have changed, publish the new date when it is ready and choose who can request a refund.

For: Changing the date of an event that has already been announced

Takes: 8 minutes

- [Open Event Details and select Postpone Event](#step-1)
- [Choose whether to show the new date](#step-2)
- [Enter the new start and end](#step-3)
- [Choose when the postponement notice ends](#step-4)
- [Choose who can request a refund](#step-5)
- [Confirm the postponement and review the event](#step-6)

## What you need before you start

- You are an owner or admin for the event. The Event Status controls are unavailable after the event has ended or after its funds have been paid out.
- You know whether to announce the new date now or keep it hidden while you confirm the venue, artists and suppliers.
- You have decided which ticket holders can request a refund. Check any commitments in your terms, artist and venue agreements before choosing.

1. ## Open Event Details and select Postpone Event

Open the event and select **Event Details**. In **Event Status**, select **Postpone Event**.

Use postponement when the event will still happen. Cancelling the event starts a different workflow.
2. ## Choose whether to show the new date

Choose **Show new date** when the replacement date is confirmed. Choose **Hide new date** when you need to announce the postponement before the new date is ready.

Hiding the date keeps the postponement visible without publishing dates that may change.
![Ticket Fairy Postpone Event dialog with date visibility, new event dates, postponement banner date and refund choices](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-event-status-actions--postpone-event.png) Event Details, Event Status, Postpone Event.
3. ## Enter the new start and end

Enter the new **Start Date** and **End Date**. Check the time as well as the day, especially when the event runs past midnight.

Ticket Fairy sends the postponement email to ticket holders after you confirm the new dates. It removes the old sales start and check-in times, and moves the sales end to the new start, so review those times after postponing.
4. ## Choose when the postponement notice ends

Under **Postponement banner will be shown until**, enter the date and time when the postponement period should end.

After this time, the postponement notice ends and scheduled event reminders and subscriber emails may resume. Set it after the time when you expect to remove the postponed status, and extend it if your plans take longer.
5. ## Choose who can request a refund

Choose **Refund all tickets** to let eligible paid ticket holders request a refund. Choose **Refund tickets purchased before event was postponed** to limit that option to tickets bought before the postponement. Choose **No automatic refunds** when requests will follow the policy you enter and your team will handle them individually.

These choices control refund eligibility. They do not issue every refund when you select **Postpone Event**. Only paid tickets that remain valid or are listed for resale can use the self-service refund option.
6. ## Confirm the postponement and review the event

Select **Postpone Event**, read the date-reminder confirmation and select **Confirm**. Reopen the event and check the public page, ticket sale end, doors time, last entry, ticket-level entry times and any scheduled messages against the new date.

The event page and tickets now use the new event dates. Any other times you set separately still need your review.

## Or have it done for you

Fai can open Event Details for you and guide you through the Event Status controls. The CLI can postpone an event from a reviewed JSON or YAML file. MCP can show your assistant the event's current dates and status before and after the change.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Open Event Details for \<EVENT NAME\> and help me postpone it. I want to check the new dates, what ticket holders will see and who can request a refund before I confirm

### From your own assistant, over MCP

Connect your assistant to [our MCP server](https://www.ticketfairy.com/mcp-server) and ask it:

Keep `--read-only` in your MCP configuration. This task only reads data, so your assistant does not need tools that make changes.

Pick the brand, find \<EVENT NAME\> and show its current status, start, end and timezone

## From your terminal

Install the CLI from [our CLI page](https://www.ticketfairy.com/cli), sign in with `ticketfairy auth login`, and choose the brand you are working on with `ticketfairy brand use <BRAND_ID>`. `ticketfairy brand list` and `ticketfairy event list` show the IDs the other commands use.

Put the new dates, date visibility, banner end and refund choice in a JSON or YAML file, review it, then run the postpone command. The command asks for confirmation.

### Postpone or reschedule an event from a reviewed file

ticketfairy event postpone \<EVENT\_ID\> --from-file postponement.yaml

## Update the date or refund choice

1. ### Open the current postponement

Return to **Event Details** and select **Update Postponement** in **Event Status**.
![Ticket Fairy Update Postponement dialog with the current date visibility, event dates, postponement end time and refund choice](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-event-status-actions--update-postponement.png) Event Details, Event Status, Update Postponement.
2. ### Save the revised postponement

Change the date visibility, start, end, banner end or refund choice, then select **Save Changes** and **Confirm**. Review the connected event times again when the start or end changed.

Treat a saved update as another announcement to ticket holders and check every date and time before you confirm it.

Fai can open Event Details for the event. The CLI uses the same reviewed-file command as the first postponement. MCP can check the dates and status afterward.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Open Event Details for \<EVENT NAME\> so I can update its postponement

### From your own assistant, over MCP

Keep `--read-only` in your MCP configuration. This task only reads data, so your assistant does not need tools that make changes.

Pick the brand, find \<EVENT NAME\> and show its current status, start and end

### From your terminal

Run the postpone command again with the complete revised values.

#### Replace the current postponement values

ticketfairy event postpone \<EVENT\_ID\> --from-file postponement.yaml

## Reveal a date that was hidden

1. ### Select Disclose Event Date

In **Event Status**, select **Disclose Event Date** after the new date is ready to publish.
2. ### Confirm and check the public page

Read the confirmation, select **Confirm**, then open the public event page and check the date and time.

Fai can open Event Details so you can reveal the date. The CLI asks you to confirm the change. MCP can check the event date afterward.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Open Event Details for \<EVENT NAME\> so I can reveal its postponed date

### From your own assistant, over MCP

Keep `--read-only` in your MCP configuration. This task only reads data, so your assistant does not need tools that make changes.

Pick the brand, find \<EVENT NAME\> and show the current start and end

### From your terminal

Reveal the saved date after checking it in Event Details.

#### Reveal the new event date

ticketfairy event disclose-date \<EVENT\_ID\>

## Remove the postponed status

1. ### Turn off self-service refunds if they should end

Select **Update Postponement**. Choose **No automatic refunds**, then select **Save Changes** and **Confirm**. Skip this step when ticket holders should still be able to request refunds under the current policy.

Removing the postponed status does not change the refund choice. Turn off self-service refunds first when that option should end with the postponement.
2. ### Select Remove Postponed Status

Back in **Event Status**, select **Remove Postponed Status** when you no longer need the postponement notice.
3. ### Confirm the change

Read whether the event content will remain visible or hidden, then select **Remove Postponed Status**. Check the public event page afterward.

This removes the postponement and its banner. The event keeps the current start and end dates.

Fai can open Event Details so you can review refunds and remove the postponed status. The CLI can update the refund choice before removing the status. MCP can check the event status afterward.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Open Event Details for \<EVENT NAME\> so I can review its refund choice and remove the postponed status

### From your own assistant, over MCP

Keep `--read-only` in your MCP configuration. This task only reads data, so your assistant does not need tools that make changes.

Pick the brand, find \<EVENT NAME\> and show its current status

### From your terminal

If self-service refunds should end, first run the postpone command with both refund flags set to false in the complete reviewed file. Then remove the postponed status.

#### Turn off self-service refunds while keeping the current postponement details

ticketfairy event postpone \<EVENT\_ID\> --from-file postponement.yaml

#### Remove the postponed status

ticketfairy event postpone \<EVENT\_ID\> --body '{"flagPostponed":false}'

## Reinstate a cancelled event

1. ### Ask Ticket Fairy support to reinstate the event

Contact Ticket Fairy support with the event name and ID. Reinstatement is restricted because cancellation affects orders, refunds and ticket resale.
2. ### Review resale invitations and confirm

Support checks whether existing resale invitations should be invalidated, then confirms the reinstatement. Review the event page, tickets, sale windows and refund status before announcing that the event is available again.
![Ticket Fairy confirmation for reinstating a cancelled event, with the choice to invalidate resale invitations](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-event-status-actions--reinstate-event.png) Event Details, Event Status, Reinstate Event.

Ask Fai to open a Ticket Fairy support request for reinstatement. MCP can check the event status. The CLI command works only for an authorised Ticket Fairy staff account.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Open a support request to reinstate \<EVENT NAME\>. Include its event ID and ask me whether existing resale invitations should remain valid

### From your own assistant, over MCP

Keep `--read-only` in your MCP configuration. This task only reads data, so your assistant does not need tools that make changes.

Pick the brand, find \<EVENT NAME\> and show whether it is cancelled

### From your terminal

This command is restricted to authorised Ticket Fairy staff.

#### Reinstate and invalidate existing resale invitations

ticketfairy event reinstate \<EVENT\_ID\> --invalidate-resale-invitations

## Questions you might have

Will postponing the event refund every order?: No. The refund choice decides which eligible paid ticket holders can request a refund. Postponing does not issue every refund immediately.

When are ticket holders emailed?: Ticket Fairy sends the postponement email after you confirm a postponement or save an update. Check every saved update as carefully as the first announcement.

What happens to the old event dates?: Ticket Fairy keeps the original start and end as part of the postponement record and uses the new dates on the event. Removing the postponed status keeps the current dates.

Can I postpone an event after its funds have been paid out?: No. The Event Status action is unavailable after the event funds have been paid out. Contact Ticket Fairy support with the event ID and the change you need to make.

Should I postpone or cancel?: Postpone when the event will happen on a later date. Cancel when the event will not take place. Cancellation has its own order, refund and reinstatement checks.
