# Sell reserved seats for your event from a seat map

Theaters, comedy rooms, concert halls and arenas sell more of the room when buyers can see where they will sit and pick the seat they want. Each seat is sold once, at the price of its category, and the door team sees it when the ticket is scanned.

Takes: 10 minutes

- [Open Configure Seat Map](#step-1)
- [Attach the seat map](#step-2)
- [Choose the event type and set the event](#step-3)
- [Open the Link ticket types window](#step-4)
- [Choose a category and a ticket type](#step-5)
- [Select Link Ticket](#step-6)
- [Hold back the seats you are keeping](#step-7)
- [A buyer choosing seats](#step-8)
- [Choose a seat on your event page](#step-9)
- [Check the seat on an order](#step-10)

## Before you start

- Ticket Fairy staff switch seat maps on for your event and build the map of your venue with you. Ask your Ticket Fairy contact, and they give you the map's chart key if they don't attach it for you.
- You need an owner or admin role on the event.
- Your event has its ticket types, one for each seat price.

1. ## Open Configure Seat Map

Open your event, select **Settings** and find the **Configure Seat Map** section.

**Note:** The same section is on the event's **Tickets** page.
2. ## Attach the seat map

If no map is attached yet, select **Attach Existing Map**, then enter the **Chart Key** and a **Chart Name**.

**Note:** You can attach a map made for your brand or for a venue you manage. The button works once your event has ticket types.
3. ## Choose the event type and set the event

Under **Event type**, choose **Single day event** or **Multi day event**, then select **Set Event**.

**Note:** For a multi-day event, enter the **Name of the main seat map**, which books seats across every day. "Event linked successfully!" confirms the map is attached.
4. ## Open the Link ticket types window

In **Configure Seat Map**, select Link Ticket Types to open the **Link ticket types** window. It lists the seat categories your map has, such as Stalls and Circle.
5. ## Choose a category and a ticket type

Choose a **Category**, then choose the **Ticket Type** its seats sell as.

**Note:** A seat in a category with no ticket type can't be chosen. Link two ticket types to one category, such as Adult and Child, and the buyer chooses between them when they pick the seat.
6. ## Select Link Ticket

Select **Link Ticket**, then link the next category the same way until every category on the map has a ticket type.

**Note:** **Unlink** beside a linked row removes that link.
7. ## Hold back the seats you are keeping

Optional: Select **Seat Blocking** and choose the seats that are not for sale, such as seats for your guests or the sound desk.

**Tip:** Use **Manage Seats** to see and change the status of each seat.

## A buyer choosing seats

Your event page shows the seat map in place of the ticket list. The buyer selects their seats, each at the price of its category, and we keep them for that buyer for 10 minutes while they check out. Seats they don't pay for in that time go back on sale.

8. ## Choose a seat on your event page

Open your event page and select a seat in each category. Each seat shows the price of the ticket type you linked to it.
9. ## Check the seat on an order

After your first sale, open the order from **Orders**. Each ticket shows its **Seat Map** and **Seat**.

## Questions you might have

**Can I draw or change the seat map myself?**

Ticket Fairy staff build the map of your venue with you and switch seat maps on for your event. If Ticket Fairy has given your login map editing, **Edit Seat Map** on your event lets you change the map yourself. Either way, you attach the map, link its categories to your ticket types and hold back seats.

**How do I move a buyer to a different seat?**

Open the order and select **Change Seat** on the ticket. [Move a buyer to a different ticket type or seat](https://www.ticketfairy.com/guides/move-a-buyer-to-a-different-ticket-type-or-seat) covers each step.

**Does a refunded seat go back on sale?**

Yes, when the ticket is canceled. Refunding a whole order cancels its tickets and frees their seats. Refunding one ticket frees its seat only if you also cancel the ticket.

**Can a buyer choose seats in different categories in one order?**

Yes. Attaching a map lets buyers buy more than one ticket type in an order, and that setting stays on while the map is attached.

**Can I remove the seat map from my event?**

Ask your Ticket Fairy contact before your tickets go on sale. A seat map can't be removed from an event once ticket sales have started.

**Does the door team see the seat?**

Yes. When a ticket is scanned, the scanner shows the seat with the ticket's details.
