# Set commission for your promoters

Promoters sell more when they know what they earn, and you keep track of what you owe them when every sale through their link is worked out for you. You set the terms once for your brand or for one event, and each order earns under the terms in place when the buyer placed it.

Create the commission structures your promoters earn with, such as a percentage of ticket sales or a fixed amount per ticket, choose the default, give a promoter their own commission when you approve or invite them, and read what each promoter has earned.

For: Paying promoters a share of the tickets they sell

Takes: 12 minutes

- [Open Commission on your brand's Team page](#step-1)
- [When to set it up on your brand](#step-2)
- [Select New structure](#step-3)
- [Enter a name](#step-4)
- [Choose how promoters earn](#step-5)
- [The price a percentage uses](#step-6)
- [Enter the percentage or the amounts](#step-7)
- [Add the tiers](#step-8)
- [Create the structure](#step-9)
- [Change the default](#step-10)
- [The commission each promoter earns](#step-11)
- [Give one promoter their own commission](#step-12)
- [Check what each promoter has earned](#step-13)

## Before you start

- You need an owner or admin login for the event or the brand. If **Commission** isn't on your **Team** page, ask the brand's owner to make you an admin.

1. ## Open Commission on your brand's Team page

Open your brand, select **Team**, then select **Commission**. Until you create a structure, the tab offers two examples to start from.

**Note:** Each event's **Team** page has the same tab for that event alone.
![Ticket Fairy Commission tab before any structure exists, with the 10% of ticket sales and £2.00 per ticket examples, Start from scratch, and an empty Promoters and earnings list](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/features-promoter-commission--empty.png) Brand, Team, Commission.

## When to set it up on your brand

A structure you create on your brand's **Commission** tab can be used on every event under the brand, including events you create later, and the brand's default applies to all of them. A structure you create on one event is for that event alone, and an event's own default replaces the brand's there. A different rate for each ticket type is only possible on a structure for one event, because ticket types belong to one event.

2. ## Select New structure

Select **New structure**, or one of the examples, such as **10% of ticket sales**.
![Ticket Fairy commission structure window for a tiered structure called Headline sellers, with the six ways promoters earn, three tiers, How it works with an example, and its earlier versions](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/features-promoter-commission--structure-editor.png) Team, Commission, Edit structure.
3. ## Enter a name

Enter a **Name**, such as Standard 10%.

**Note:** Only your team sees the name. Promoters see how the structure works, in words.
4. ## Choose how promoters earn

Under **How do promoters earn?**, choose one way.

   - **Percentage of ticket sales**: A share of each ticket's price, between 0.01% and 100%.
   - **Fixed amount per ticket**: The same amount for every ticket sold.
   - **Fixed amount per order**: The same amount for each order, whatever the number of tickets in it.
   - **Tiered by tickets sold**: A higher percentage or amount once a promoter has sold more tickets for the event.
   - **Different rate per ticket type**: A rate for some ticket types, such as VIP, and a main rate for every other ticket type.
   - **No commission**: Promoters with this structure earn nothing, such as friends of the venue who share your link.

## The price a percentage uses

A percentage is worked out on the ticket price you receive: the price after discounts and after any booking fee you pay yourself, without tax and without add-ons. This is the same figure as Revenue in **Sales by Promoter**. If part of a ticket's price is refunded and the buyer keeps the ticket, the commission goes down by the same share, and guests added to a table later raise it. Free tickets and orders a promoter places for themselves earn nothing.

5. ## Enter the percentage or the amounts

Enter the **Percentage**, or an amount in each currency you sell in under **Currencies**.

**Note:** An order in a currency with no amount earns nothing from the fixed amount, and the editor names those currencies. A percentage works in every currency.
6. ## Add the tiers

For **Tiered by tickets sold**, select **Add a tier** and enter the ticket it starts at and its rate.

**Note:** The first tier starts at ticket 1, and you can have up to 10 tiers. Each ticket earns the rate of its own tier, so earlier tickets keep the rate they earned.
7. ## Create the structure

Check **How it works** and the **Example**, then select **Create structure**. The structure appears under **Commission structures**.

**Note:** A brand can have 200 active structures and an event 50. Archive the ones you no longer use.
8. ## Change the default

Under **Default commission**, select **Change default**, choose the structure, then confirm the change.

**Note:** Every person on your team with the **Promoter** role and no commission of their own earns the default. Owners, admins and other roles earn commission only when you give them their own.
![Ticket Fairy window for changing the default commission, with a structure chosen and the earlier changes to the default](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/features-promoter-commission--change-default.png) Team, Commission, Change default.

## The commission each promoter earns

A promoter's own commission on an event comes first, then their own commission on all your brand's events, then the event's default, then the brand's default. Each order earns under the terms in place when the buyer placed it. A change you make applies to orders placed after it, so earlier orders keep their terms.

9. ## Give one promoter their own commission

Under **Promoters and earnings**, select **Change** beside the person, choose a structure, then select **Change commission**.

**Note:** The promoter gets a notice in their Ticket Fairy notifications. **Follow the default** takes their own commission away again.
![Ticket Fairy Change commission window for one promoter, with a structure chosen](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/features-promoter-commission--change-commission.png) Team, Commission, Change.
10. ## Check what each promoter has earned

Read the **Commission**, **Tickets** and **Earned** columns under **Promoters and earnings**. New sales can take a few minutes to show.
![Ticket Fairy Commission tab with the Standard 10% default, three commission structures and five promoters with their commission, tickets and what they have earned](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/features-promoter-commission--commission-tab.png) Brand, Team, Commission.

## Try these steps on your own event

Create a free account, build your event and follow the steps above in your own dashboard. It takes a few minutes and you do not need to book a sales call.

## Or have it done for you

Fai, the assistant inside your dashboard, can create, change, archive and restore commission structures, change the default, give one promoter or up to 100 promoters their own commission, and explain any promoter's earnings line by line. She shows you each change and asks you to approve it first. The command line and MCP have no commission commands, so use the dashboard or Fai.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Create a commission structure for \<BRAND NAME\> that pays 10% of each ticket's price, make it the default, and show me what each promoter has earned so far

## Let Fai do it for you

Fai works inside your Ticket Fairy dashboard. Create your account, open Fai and paste the prompt above.

## Choose the commission when you approve an application

1. ### Choose the commission

In the application's decision section, choose a structure under **Commission**, or keep **Default commission**.

**Note:** The commission applies to orders placed after you approve. Someone who already has their own commission keeps it, and you see who after you approve.
![Ticket Fairy promoter application decision section with a commission structure chosen under Commission](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/features-promoter-applications--approve-with-commission.png) Team, Applications, one application.
2. ### Approve the application

Select **Approve**. The same choice is in the dialog for approving several applications at once.

Fai can approve applications with the commission you name, for one person or up to 100, and asks you to confirm first.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Approve every promoter application for \<EVENT NAME\> that you suggest approving, give them the \<STRUCTURE NAME\> commission, and show me the list before you do

## Choose the commission when you invite a promoter

1. ### Choose the commission in the invitation

On the **Team** page, invite the person with the **Promoter** role and choose a structure under **Commission**.

**Note:** The commission applies to orders placed after they accept. [Invite your team to your events](https://www.ticketfairy.com/guides/invite-your-team) covers the rest of the invitation.
![Ticket Fairy invitation window with the Promoter role and a commission structure chosen under Commission](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/marketing-brand-team--add-team-member-with-commission.png) Team, Add team member.

Fai can invite promoters to your brand or one event with the commission you name, after showing you the invitation.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Invite \<EMAIL ADDRESSES\> to \<BRAND NAME\> as promoters with the \<STRUCTURE NAME\> commission

## Change the commission of several promoters at once

1. ### Tick the promoters

Under **Promoters and earnings**, tick each person.

**Note:** You can change up to 100 people at a time.
2. ### Select Change commission

Select **Change commission**, choose a structure, then confirm.

**Note:** The dialog lists anyone it left alone, such as a person who promotes through a collective, which has a commission of its own.

Fai can give up to 100 promoters the same commission in one change, after showing you who it covers.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Give every promoter on \<BRAND NAME\> who sold more than 50 tickets the \<STRUCTURE NAME\> commission and show me who it covers first

## Read one promoter's earnings

1. ### Open the promoter

Select a person under **Promoters and earnings**. You see their **Commission now**, **Earnings** in each currency, **Earnings lines** and **Commission history**.

**Note:** **Taken back** is commission on tickets that were later refunded or canceled. **Price changes after the sale** covers part refunds and guests added to a table.
![Ticket Fairy section for one promoter on an event, with their commission now, earnings, earnings lines and commission history](https://www.ticketfairy.com/embeds/posters/features-promoter-commission--promoter-earnings.png) Team, Commission, one promoter.

Fai can read a promoter's balance and explain every earnings line in plain words.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Why has \<PROMOTER NAME\> earned this much commission on \<EVENT NAME\>?

## Change or archive a structure

1. ### Open the structure

Select **Edit** beside the structure under **Commission structures**, change it, then select **Save changes**.

**Note:** A structure that people use asks you to confirm. Orders placed before the save keep the earlier terms, and **Changes to how it works** lists each version.
2. ### Archive a structure you no longer use

Select **Archive** beside the structure and confirm.

**Note:** People who have it keep earning with it until you change their commission, and **Restore** makes it active again. Choose a different default before you archive the default.

Fai can change, archive and restore a structure, and tells you how many people use it before you approve.

### In your dashboard, with Fai

Change the \<STRUCTURE NAME\> commission structure to 12% from now on

## Questions you might have

Is tax included in the ticket price a percentage is worked out on?: No. The price is what you receive for the ticket after discounts and after any booking fee you pay yourself, without tax and without add-ons. If you include tax in your ticket price without a tax setting on the event, that price is the one used, the same as Revenue in **Sales by Promoter**.

What happens to commission when a ticket is refunded?: A refunded or canceled ticket takes back exactly what it earned, and the promoter's earnings show it as **Taken back**. A ticket that comes back, such as after a dispute you won, earns again under the order's terms.

What happens when I refund part of a ticket's price and the buyer keeps the ticket?: A percentage commission goes down by the share of the price you refunded. If you refund £10 of a £40 ticket, a 10% commission goes from £4.00 to £3.00. A fixed amount per ticket or per order stays the same, because the ticket was still sold.

Do guests added to a table later earn commission?: Yes, with a percentage. The table's price rises by what the guests paid, so the commission rises with it, and removing guests lowers it again. A fixed amount does not change, and added guests do not count as extra tickets for tiers.

Do free tickets earn commission?: No. A ticket with a price of zero earns nothing and does not count towards tiers. **Sales by Promoter** still counts free tickets, and marks them as earning no commission once commission is set up for the event.

Does a promoter earn on tickets they buy for themselves?: No. An order a promoter places for themselves through their own link earns no commission. **Sales by Promoter** still lists it, marked as an order they placed for themselves.

My events sell in more than one currency. How do fixed amounts work?: Enter an amount in each currency you sell in, such as £1.00, €1.20 and $1.30. An order in a currency with no amount earns nothing from the fixed amount, and the **Commission** tab names those currencies so you can add them. Percentages work in every currency.

If I change a structure or the default, does it change what promoters already earned?: No. Each order earns under the terms in place when the buyer placed it. A change applies to orders placed after you save it.

Does Ticket Fairy pay my promoters?: No. The **Commission** tab works out and records what each promoter has earned, and you pay them yourself.

What about promoters in a collective?: People who promote through a collective earn the commission set for the collective, so the **Commission** tab leaves them out. [Sell as an agency or promoter group](https://www.ticketfairy.com/guides/sell-as-an-agency-or-promoter-group) covers collective commission.

What does a promoter see?: Each promoter sees how they earn, in words, and their own earnings on **My commission**. They never see the name of the structure or what other promoters earn.

Can Fai set up commission for me?: Yes. Ask in ordinary language. Fai can create and change structures, change the default, give promoters their own commission and explain any balance, and she asks you to approve each change first.
