Running the production

Set pitch rules and let Fai plan your trader pitches at your event

Market and festival site managers juggle dozens of rules when they place traders: coffee vans apart, hot food near the seating, fire lanes clear and no zone over its power. Entering those rules once lets every placement be checked against them, and lets Fai do the first draft of the pitch plan.

Enter your event's pitch rules the way you would say them, such as keeping the two coffee vans apart or the fire lane clear. The pitch check shows every pitch that breaks a rule, and Fai places the traders still without a pitch on free pitches that keep every rule, for you to approve.

For
Placing traders on your site plan by your own rules
Takes
6 minutes

Before you start

  • You are an owner, admin or producer on the event. The event's Operations page opens for those roles only.
  • Your site plan is uploaded in Map, with each pitch drawn as an area that has the trader symbol or a name starting with Pitch.
  • Your traders are approved, and each one says what they sell and the power they need.
  1. Open Rules and plan

Open the event, select Operations, select Site map, then select Rules and plan at the top.

Note: The map outlines the pitches that must be fixed and the ones worth a look. Pitch check lists each trader with something to check.

  2. Enter a rule

In New rule, enter the rule the way you would say it, then select Add rule.

Note: Fai reads it against your map and shows it back as the rule the check applies, under your own words. Distances need the map's scale.

The rules Fai can read

A rule can keep traders apart, such as the two coffee vans at least 25 metres from each other. It can keep traders near a place, limit the traders in a zone, keep a fire lane or other place clear of pitches, or give the power a zone has in amps. Overlapping pitches, pitches outside the site boundary, a place that must stay clear, a full zone and too little power must be fixed. A rule that is not kept is worth a look.

  1. Say what a rule does if Fai could not read it

Select Say what it does on a rule marked Needs you, choose What the rule does, fill in the traders, places or numbers, then select Save rule.

Note: A rule Fai could not read does nothing until you complete it. Change the words instead and save to let Fai read them again.

  2. Ask Fai for a pitch plan

Under Fai's pitch plan, select Plan pitches with Fai.

Note: Fai places up to 150 approved traders without a pitch on free pitches, without breaking a rule or overlapping another pitch, and says why for each one. With more traders, place this plan first, then select Plan again for the rest.

  3. Place the traders you agree with

Untick anyone you do not want placed, then select the button that counts the traders, such as Place 2 traders.

Note: Nothing moves until you select it. A trader whose pitch no longer fits because the map changed is left out and listed with the reason.

  4. Check the result

    Read Pitch check again.

Note: It says Nothing to fix when every pitch keeps your rules, or counts what is left to fix and worth a look.

Or have it done for you

Fai adds a pitch rule from your words, reads you the pitch check, and makes a pitch plan for the traders still without a pitch. She shows you each rule and plan, and nothing is placed until you approve it.

At <EVENT NAME>, keep the two coffee vans at least 30 metres apart, then plan pitches for the traders who still need one

Turn a rule off or remove it

  1. Turn it off

Select Turn off on the rule.

Note: The check stops applying it until you select Turn on.

  2. Remove it

Select Remove on the rule, then confirm.

Note: Traders already on pitches stay where they are.

Fai turns a pitch rule off or on, or removes it, after you confirm.

Questions you might have

Does a rule stop me dragging a trader onto a pitch?
No. You can still place a trader by hand on the map, and the pitch check shows anything that placement breaks. Fai's plan and move requests refuse a pitch that must be fixed.
Why does Fai say there is nothing to plan?
Every approved trader has a pitch, or there is no free pitch. Mark free pitches with the trader symbol, or name them Pitch and a number, such as Pitch F8.
How far apart is apart?
With a scale on the map, 25 metres to keep traders apart and 50 metres to keep them near a place, unless your rule gives a distance. Without a scale, the check uses a share of the plan's size.
How many rules can an event have?
Up to 50. Remove a rule you no longer need to add another.
What if two people place traders at the same time?
Fai's plan and move requests are placed one at a time, and each is checked against the pitches already taken. If the map is busy, the dashboard asks you to try again in a moment.
