She was currently being treated for acute myeloid leukemia, cancer in the bone marrow. The patient received a stem cell transplant from a donor, who was resistant to the AIDS-causing virus. News of this medical breakthrough was announced at the 29th annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections in Denver, Colorado.
