The pulsating sets and high-energy beats of electronic dance music have long made their way from the underground venues to major clubs, Spotify playlists, TikTok, Instagram Reels, and popular music festivals. This year, the EDM scene and its revenue have seen growth, as per the IMS Business Report 2025. Let’s take a look at what the driving force behind the bloom of electronic dance music in 2025 is.

According to the 2025 IMS Business Report, the electronic music industry has [recorded](https://www.internationalmusicsummit.com/business-report) a 6% increase from USD 12.5 billion in 2023 to USD 12.9 billion in 2024. The report includes findings that help us understand the genre trends, listener habits, revenues, and how artists are doing in the electronic music realm a lot better.

“Global music industry revenue grew again in 2024, though at a slower rate than in 2023 due to maturing streaming revenues and the post-Covid live resurgence lessening. Electronic music, however, continued to increase its share of both revenues and culture,” MIDiA Research’s Mark Mulligan [said](https://djmag.com/news/global-electronic-music-industry-value-reaches-129-billion-ims-business-report-2025-finds) to DJ Mag. “Driven by the rise of new genres like Afro house, a renaissance for genres like drum & bass, and the rise of a new generation of fans, creators and scenes remaking electronic music in their own image, electronic music finds itself at the start of a brave new era of culture resonance.”

The current trend mentioned in the report would naturally mean the live music industry will see a significant rise in 2025. The post-Covid live music scene has flourished as both music aficionados and casual listeners are trying to make up for the gigs and events they missed during the pandemic. On the other hand, there have been numerous music festival cancellations and venue/club closures citing the cost-of-living crisis, among other reasons. So, how is the music industry still collecting more revenue? It’s not the number of tickets sold; it’s more about the prices. Over the years, there has been a hike in ticket prices, which is the cause of the growth of revenue in the dance music business.

## The Shift on Social Media

Every day, we’re swiping and scrolling our fingers across screens to view hundreds of Instagram Reels and TikToks that millions of users are engaging with. Most of these short-format content contains background music and inevitably gets etched onto our minds due to the trending sounds or video template/format. There is a noticeable rise in the amount of background sounds being employed to support videos coming from electronic dance music instead of genres like indie, alternative, rap, and hip-hop on TikTok.

TikTokers are using EDM tunes for dance, fitness, fashion, styling, and travel content, attracting more fans to the genre. This leads to more and more people discovering sub-genres or falling in love with EDM. As noted, Instagram, TikTok, Spotify, YouTube, and Facebook now comprise over [566 million](https://mixmag.net/read/electronic-music-industry-grew-12-9-billion-ims-business-report-2025-2024-ibiza-news) electronic music fans.

TikTok boasts 1 billion users, and when a sound gets popular, it reaches a wider audience, further supporting electronic music artists. It is a no-brainer that the platform is heavily changing the way music is consumed today. A mere 15-30 second clip becoming popular can lead to hundreds of thousands or even millions of videos and streams for an artist and genre.

Among the sub-genres, **speed garage** saw a 183% growth in views on the platform last year, with **house** music and **trance** gaining the most traction. Videos tagged with electronic music have garnered over 13 billion [views](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/apr/20/views-of-tiktok-posts-with-electronic-music-outgrow-those-using-indie) on the platform in 2024. This is a 45% increase since 2023. This helps artists to gain a bigger audience and even move up the official charts.

“Dance music has become more accessible and big in the commercial sphere. We are seeing the breaking down of boundaries for artists, and TikTok is part of that,” [says](https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2025/apr/20/views-of-tiktok-posts-with-electronic-music-outgrow-those-using-indie) Toyin Mustapha, the head of music partnerships for the UK and Ireland at TikTok, as per The Guardian. “TikTok users tend to tag the genres of music, especially genres like electronic music. It shows the community they are trying to build and are part of, and electronic music is very much a community-led thing.”

## Genre-wise Increase in Streams and Listenership

**Afro-house** tops the list of genres to quickly climb in popularity on Beatport, with house, tech-house, amapiano, jungle, drum & bass, and UKG growing alongside. Meanwhile, Spotify reports a 94% boom in **drum & bass** streams, with almost double the amount since 2021, as artists like Nia Archives, Hybrid Minds, Skepsis, Bou, Chase & Status, Rudimental, SHY FX, and more take the genre to the world.

The UK and Germany gained 15% more electronic music listeners last year, whereas Mexico’s listenership soared 60%. A notable increase in listeners of electronic music has also been recorded in Brazil and India. In general, the genre is now the second-most followed on music streaming giant Spotify. This shift is also being noticed in music festival line-ups. There has been a 2% increase (since 2023) in EDM acts making up the roster for some of the biggest music festivals around the globe, with [18%](https://edm.com/industry/electronic-dance-music-rising-dominance-global-festival-lineups-ims-business-report) of the bill featuring artists from the electronic music world.
