With so many things going on around the world, we must raise awareness of these issues concerning us and the people on this planet. One such way of doing so is by observing international days and weeks that are occasions held to educate the public on issues of concern. ### July 2, 2022 ### International Day of Cooperatives July 2, 2022, is observed as the International Day of Cooperatives all around the world. Co-operatives have been acknowledged as associations. They are enterprises through which citizens can effectively improve their lives. In addition to this, they contribute to the economic, social, cultural, and political advancement of their community and nation. “The co-operative movement has been also recognized as a distinct and major stakeholder in both national and international affairs,” the UN [states](https://www.un.org/en/observances/cooperatives-day). Cooperatives operate all around the world. They work in many different sectors of the economy. Cooperatives have proven themselves more resilient to crises than the average – fostering economic participation, and fighting against environmental degradation and climate change. They also generate good jobs, contribute to food security, and keep financial capital within local communities. Furthermore, they build ethical value chains. However, in just another 200 years or so, it grew sevenfold. In 2011, our planet saw its population reach the 7 billion mark. Today, this number stands at about 7.9 billion. This population is [expected to grow](https://www.un.org/en/observances/world-population-day) to around “8.5 billion in 2030, 9.7 billion in 2050, and 10.9 billion in 2100,” according to the UN.    World Population Day is marked on July 12, 2022. It is held annually on July 25. It offers life-saving solutions to prevent it. Everyone is invited to mark World Drowning Prevention Day by the UN. The date of July 28 [was chosen](https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-hepatitis-day) because it is the birthday of Nobel-prize-winning scientist Dr. Baruch Blumberg. Blumberg [discovered ](https://www.who.int/campaigns/world-hepatitis-day)the hepatitis B virus (HBV). Some exchange a wristband or colorful strings tied in a knot to mark and celebrate their friendships. This day may be celebrated on different dates based on which country you reside in. Similarly, the UN celebrates ‘International Day of Friendship’ on July 30, 2022. The International Day of Friendship was [proclaimed](http://undocs.org/A/65/L.72) in 2011 by the UN General Assembly. Trafficking in persons is a serious crime. It is a grave violation of human rights. Every year, thousands of men, women, and children fall into the hands of traffickers. This happens in their own countries and abroad with almost every country in the world being affected by trafficking.
