Since their inception nearly half a decade ago, Welupt has steadily grown into a formidable force in the electronic music landscape. Ahead of this highly anticipated event, we sat down with the Welupt team to dive deeper into their journey, the inspiration behind their Women’s Day party, and their plans for the future. Here’s what they had to say: **TFword: Thank you for taking the time to chat with us! What a packed month you are having, with five incredible and genre-bending showcases in the mix. How has it been going so far?** **Trishai:** It’s been a hectic but really fulfilling month for us. We knew it would be ambitious, but seeing the energy at each show has made it all worth it. Every lineup has brought something different to the table, and the way the audience has responded has been incredible. More than anything, it’s been amazing to build deeper connections within the community while expanding the reach of the music we love. **TF: Pre Women’s Day Party culminates your stellar Feb-March run of gigs. What propelled you to bring forth the idea for an all-girls line-up to celebrate the event?** **Noizx:** In our past few gigs at Welupt, we’ve always had at least one female artist in the lineup, and every time, we’ve noticed a powerful shift in energy as soon as they take the stage, in the best way possible! This got us thinking, what if we took it a step further and curate an all-female lineup? Everything fell into place perfectly, as Women’s Day was approaching just as we were planning this gig. **TF: While this exclusive show comes as a nod to International Women’s Day, will all-female shows be featured more frequently across the year as part of Welupt’s upcoming events?** **Trishai:** Absolutely. While this event is a special tribute to International Women’s Day, the larger goal has always been to create a more balanced and inclusive space year-round. We’re actively working to highlight female artists across all our showcases, not just as a one-off concept but as an integral part of our programming. The scene is evolving, and we want to ensure that representation isn’t just a moment—it’s a movement. **TF: With FeniFena taking over the reins and Rouge, Smokey and Rayska laying down the beats for the night, what do you aim to achieve from the event and how do you expect the crowd to perceive it?** **Nkshtra:** Welupt always champions talent from all sides of the scene. When we saw these incredibly skilled female artists bringing such positive energy and shaping beautiful gigs, we knew we had to bring them together on one lineup. Also Karan Kanchan, Hamshyre, Smokey, Suggahunny, Rouge and many more Indian powerhouses are on these line-ups to kick off 2025. Talk us through how you went about planning, organizing, and implementing the shows.** **Trishai:** Collaboration has been at the heart of this entire process. Working with Riot Leg, NeckWreck Crew, Dushyant as well as DnBIndia allowed us to bring together artists and audiences in a way that felt organic and exciting. We focused on curating lineups that highlight both international and homegrown talent, ensuring a balance of fresh sounds and familiar faces. From locking in venues to managing logistics and creative direction, every step was about making these shows feel special. It all starts with the music—we wanted to bring artists who inspire us and create experiences that feel fresh and exciting. Once we had the vision, it was about finding the right spaces, locking in logistics, and making sure every detail—from sound to lighting—enhanced the vibe. A lot of moving parts come together behind the scenes, but at the end of the day, it’s about building something people connect with. Seeing it all come alive on the night makes the long hours totally worth it. **TF: What does it take to run an electronic music collective in India?** **Diffshock:** Welupt is an open-format music collective that gives artists the freedom to express their art. While we focus on electronic music, we aim to bring it out of its niche. Our catalog spans Dubstep, Trap, Baile Funk, Moombahton, and more, showcasing India’s diverse talent. We also ensure each track is presented authentically, like Don’t Let Me Go by Goodboi Music. With a strong lineup of upcoming releases, we’re excited to keep pushing boundaries. **TF: Welupt Collective has successfully released a slew of music releases such as Vihaan Vol 2, Nature Knows No Kings, Pandal EP; What are you on the lookout for while scouting artists to release under your banner? Diffshock:**Welupt Collective has always been dedicated to giving artists the creative freedom to express their art, pushing electronic music beyond its niche while embracing an open-format approach. When scouting artists for releases, we look for originality, unique sonic identities, and a strong artistic vision.
