Talking to his fans on social media, Merchant [said](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DQUZtvmjRVG/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==), “The song is about a whimsical night out in Mumbai. If you’ve ever been to Mumbai, you know exactly what I am talking about.” The three-minute track draws inspiration from works of late Bollywood session musician, composer, and producer Charanjit Singh, in particular his 1982 record ‘Ten Ragas to a Disco Beat.’ This album, now considered one of the [earliest examples of acid house](https://www.instagram.com/reel/DBMKuO-S09K/), has gained a massive cult following through the years, despite [flopping](https://homegrown.co.in/homegrown-creators/delineating-disco-beats-ragas-an-interview-with-acid-house-legend-charanjit-singh) during the time of its release. ‘Bombay Acid’ revives that euphoric feeling for today’s dance floors while staying true to its influences. It opens with Raja Kumari’s silky vocals pressed against an electro-desi soundscape and smoothly courses into a medley of bleeping bass elements, deep house tones, and an outpour of rich Indian textures, courtesy of Kunal Merchant.
