Drawing inspiration from the work of minimalist composers Steve Reich and Philip Glass, and electronic music stalwarts such as Plastikman and Ricardo Villalobos, Brandt Brauer Frick has successfully formed their own vein of lean techno with supple and primarily acoustic instrumentation. Since coming together in 2008 to challenge the conventionalities of techno, the trio has put together six studio albums that are a testament to their ’emotional body music,’ and positioned them firmly at the forefront of the principles of electronic music, captivating listeners with their concoction of classical and electronic styles. **You May Also Like: [Suara Festival Returns to Bali in 2024 for a Third Spell](https://www.ticketfairy.com/word/2024/07/11/suara-festival-returns-to-bali-2024-lineup-tickets)** Brandt Brauer Frick is now on their way to Bali for the third edition of the Suara Festival from July 26 to 28 at Luna Beach Club, alongside a star-studded international and homegrown lineup. Celebrating music, art, culture against the backdrop of the Indian Ocean together with Brandt Brauer Frick’s emotive music will be a sight to behold. Right before boarding the plane, we managed to catch up with them and get their take on performing at the festival, their first experience in Bali, and their music. **TFword: Hey guys, thanks for taking the time out to chat with us. The sun’s out, and the summer has properly kicked in. How long were you anticipating it?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** Always in anticipation of the summer and constantly trying to find it somewhere. **TF: Very soon you will be heading to Bali for the Suara Festival. What is the feeling like?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** On our way right now and very excited as we’ve all never been to Bali and never performed in Indonesia. Also as Swamy is the organiser of this festival it will most probably be a special one and we are very grateful to be able to be part of it. **TF: What message do you have for your fans in Bali who are patiently awaiting your arrival? Brandt Brauer Frick:** On this tour we are playing the maybe most danceable set in our career. This one will be a good one! **TF: What flavours do bring when you set foot against the backdrop of the Bali Sea?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** All our flavours – industrial, sunny, uplifting, dark and ethereal. **TF: A star-studded line-up as well, which perfectly complements the stunning settings of Luna Beach Club. What are your thoughts on the line-up of the Suara Festival?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** It’s really diverse and very interesting and such a great choice to also have Angus & Julia Stone on the lineup. Huge fan! Unfortunately we’ll miss them as we’ll have to leave early on the Saturday, we’ve got another show to play in Singapore which we are also looking forward to very much. A long time friend is organising a rave in an abandoned industrial space. **TF: Coming to your music, what was the moment that inspired Daniel, Jan, and Paul to come and make music together?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** Jan and I started making music together in school. We were both members of the school band and then started several projects together outside of this. We discovered Paul’s music on Myspace and met up and it was clear that the 3 of us had to do something together. We ended up going to see Stephe Reich’s “Music for 18 Musicians” at the Cologne Philharmonie together and had our first recording session together right after. That’s how it began. **TF: Pushing the pensive and introspective brand of music in your own unique way, we’ve seen six studio albums from Brandt Brauer Frick. How has that part of the journey been for you guys?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** The albums are the core of what we do, they inform the way we play live and the way we want our shows to look and feel like. Every album is like a new chapter for the band. [Spotify Embed: Multi Faith Prayer Room](https://open.spotify.com/embed/album/1alKPV8VDpbbiE7pnoY4Z1?utm_source=oembed) **TF: Talk us through your experience of crafting your unique sound, and capturing the heart of dance music the way Brandt Brauer Frick have done?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** In the very beginning, we wanted to create our own type of polyrhythmical dance music, in a tight way. Then, starting with our ten-piece ensemble, our music became more orchestral, more dynamic and more like a ‚band‘ as well. We started collaborating with vocalists such as Agnes Obel, Om’Mas Keith, Nina Kraviz, Jamie Lidell… and then Beaver Sheppard, whom we made an entire album with: ‘Joy‘, album number 4. We went further and further away from pure techno for years. Then, with ‘Echo‘ and ‘Multi Faith Prayer Room‘ we kind of came back to our roots in club music, while still incorporating new influences. **TF: How do you guys think your sound has evolved over the years?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** It’s constantly evolving. And going back to where we began too. It’s almost a constant push and pull situation. **TF: How is the rest of the year looking like for Brandt Brauer Frick with their music?** **Brandt Brauer Frick:** We have a few exciting things coming up – End of August we’ll play a show together with an Orchestra in Frankfurt that will also be aired on BBC radio 3.
