Seamlessly blending his orchestral background with influences from dance music icons such as Nora En Pure, Lane 8, and Rufus Du Sol, Jack Emery has created a fusion of classical elegance and modern electronic sensibilities that has allowed him to carve out a distinctive sound that sits at the intersection of melodic and deep house. Since gaining attention with his two-track EP, ‘Fickle Heart,’ released on Nora En Pure’s Purified Records, Jack’s music has resonated globally, earning him slots at some of the world’s most prestigious festivals and events, including Ultra Europe, Amsterdam Dance Event, and the DJ Mag Top 100 Awards. The ‘Halo’ EP comes after his debut on the label in 2023 and his 2024 follow-up. With his classical training and a flair for merging orchestral influences with electronic beats coming to the fore, the ‘Halo’ EP highlights his ability to blend introspection and energy seamlessly. We figured now was the perfect moment to catch up with Jack Emery to discuss his latest EP, the creative journey behind the tracks, and his vision for future releases. Here’s what he shared with us. **TFword: Before we dig into your music, when and how did the Jack Emery journey begin? JACK EMERY:**My project began around December 2023; I actually had another project before the Jack Emery project but wanted to rebrand under a name that better represented the deep and melodic music I love to produce. I ended up choosing “Emery” as a play on my birth stone Emerald and I try to create tracks that connect deeply with people’s emotions in a dancey way. **TF: What was the first track or project you ever released, and how do you feel about it looking back now?** **JACK EMERY:**My first track was ‘Believe,’ which was also released on Purified Records in December 2023. I loved seeing that track resonate with a lot of people around the world as Nora En Pure played it at Ultra, DJ Mag Top 100 Awards, Amsterdam Dance Event, Electric Zoo, and Proper NYE. Based on what I’m currently working on in the studio, that track was a great representation of my sound and the direction I want to go as an artist. I love producing that style of track because it seems to work both on streaming platforms and live in clubs and festivals. ****TF:**Who were some of your biggest musical influences when you were first starting and how have they impacted your sound today?** **JACK EMERY:**Of course Nora En Pure! And also Camelphat, Rufus Du Sol, and Elderbrook, among others. Each of these artists has something unique they bring to the deep house scene and I am inspired by the consistency and quality of their music/performances. Something I admire about these artists is that they create both beautiful vocal-driven tracks as well as heavy-hitting dancefloor anthems. ****TF:**What was the inspiration behind ‘Halo’ EP, and how does it reflect your growth as an artist? JACK EMERY:**One of the ways I initially started listening to electronic music was actually through Indie back when Phoenix, Passion Pit, and Empire of the Sun were getting big and the indie rock scene started to overlap with some electronic elements of music. I love the feeling I get when listening to Indie vocals, so I thought it would be really fun to make a record around an Indie-style vocal. That’s essentially how the title track ‘Halo’ came about; I wanted to blend Indie and EDM music in my own way. The other singles in the EP, ‘Above the Clouds’ and ‘Rays of Hope’ were also written in an uplifting, airy way similar to Halo but were really inspired by being surrounded by the beautiful mountains in Lake Tahoe, CA. JACK EMERY:**I reached out to Nora a couple of years ago as I knew Purified would be a great fit for my first release ‘Believe’ as well as for my project as a whole, and I feel very grateful to have also released 2 EP’s with Purified since then! Nora and her team have been amazing with their guidance, and I’m super excited to have additional future releases on Purified as well. ****TF:**How do you feel The Halo EP stands out in your discography, and what do you hope listeners take away from it?** **JACK EMERY:**I definitely explored the more emotional and touching side of my music and tried to embody uplifting, beautiful feelings in the EP. I hope these tracks will allow listeners to get introspective and think about the beauty of nature around us. ****TF:**Can you walk us through the creative process of making The Halo EP? Were there any standout moments or challenges during production?** **JACK EMERY:**For the title track, I was so inspired at the time by Indie/Electronic music, and when I heard Joel’s vocal he had sent me, I was pretty blown away. I remember being so excited and wanting to truly highlight the vocal in a way that let the singer have the spotlight while being complemented by an EDM instrumental. The original track I made actually had a different drop, and I decided to actually create an entire second version with what became the lead synth in the drops. Sometimes when creativity strikes, it can be best to try different versions and decide later on which one is best! ****TF:**Looking back at your career so far, what are you most proud of, and what are you most excited about for the future?** **JACK EMERY:**Most proud of seeing people dance and smile to my music at festivals and clubs around the world, whether it’s me playing a set or other DJ’s like Nora En Pure. It’s such a rewarding feeling to see people connect to your passion and have your hard work resonate with people. I’m super excited about playing Purified San Diego in April as well as some collaborations I’m currently working on with singers and other artists! Thrilled to start sharing that music with people. ****TF:**How do you balance your creative process with the demands of the ever-changing landscape of dance music? JACK EMERY:**I love to stay aware of changes and shifts in trends in the dance music world, but I also try to stay focused on what I enjoy producing and the sound that is true to my project. I’m always hunting for new and fresh music every week and looking for inspiration as well as just listening as a fan of EDM. ****TF:**Are there any upcoming live shows, tours, or festivals you’re particularly excited about in 2025? JACK EMERY:**Absolutely! After playing Park City and Aspen to start 2025, I’m heading back to Colorado in March to play in Denver, and then I’m thrilled to be playing Nora En Pure’s “Purified San Diego” in April. Very excited to be playing alongside Nora En Pure, Yotto, Gioli & Assia, and Paradoks in my home city. ****TF:**What can we expect musically from Jack Emery in 2025? Are there any new directions or genres you’re excited to explore? JACK EMERY:**I’ve recently been leaning more into the more dancey/clubby side of my music, and I’m excited to start testing some of this new music in my sets.
