Its origin traces back to the unfortunate Disco Demolition Night, where records mostly from Black artists were destroyed in 1979. ‘Move Ya Body: The Birth of House’ is a 1-hour 27-minute film penned and directed by Elegance Bratton (‘The Inspection,’ ‘Pier Kids’) that tells the tale of how house music came to be, its history following the pioneer of house music – Vince Lawrence. What is the science behind why music has such an impact on us as individuals? But also, why does it seem to have the power to create connections between people and bring us closer together, especially on the dancefloor?” she says in the trailer. She speaks to celebrated artists like Seth Troxler, Moodymann, KiKK, neuroscientists Dr. Julia C. Basso and Dr. Daniel J. Levitin, psychologists, and more, seeking answers. It takes viewers onstage and behind the scenes, includes never-before-seen clips, and discloses challenges behind the strobe lights, glitz, and glamour.
