It is the most “sacred day to millions of Buddhists around the world as on the Day of Vesak two and a half millennia ago, in the year 623 B.C. It is believed to have been originating in northeast India, north Myanmar, and southwest China. The Second Committee of the UN General Assembly unanimously “ [adopted](https://www.un.org/en/observances/tea-day)  the resolution on Culture and Sustainable Development affirming culture’s contribution to the three dimensions of sustainable development, acknowledging further the natural and cultural diversity of the world, and recognizing that cultures and civilizations can contribute to, and are crucial enablers of, sustainable development,” as per the UN website. The World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development [provides](https://www.un.org/en/observances/tea-day) us with an opportunity to deepen our understanding of the values of cultural diversity.
