5 Video Games To Add To Your 2021 List

Whether you’re heavily into video gaming, or you’ve just bought the PS5 and want to dive right in, there’s no better way to start the year than with the releases on our list. There’s something for everyone and so many new additions to the world of video gaming, and these ones won’t disappoint!

CyberPunk 2077

Making its debut on the 10th of December, 2020, this action/adventure open-world game has been possibly the most-anticipated release since its launch announcement in 2012. Cyberpunk 2077 boasts state-of-the-art graphics and playability, rich storylines, and a vast map that allows for a unique experience for each play.

You play as an outlawed mercenary named V, who moves to Night City and proceeds to take up various jobs while unraveling the secrets of this advanced megapolis. Set in the year 2077, the Cyberpunk universe sees an unconventional upgrade in technology – in the form of body modifications – available to your character, along with a completely customizable physical appearance menu.

There are various main storylines taking place, and every corner of Night City has interesting side missions that, based on how players choose, carve out significant differences in the overall experience. Having taken nearly 9 years to roll out, Cyberpunk 2077 was released for the PS5, XBox One, Google Stadia and Microsoft Windows. Post-release reception, however, unfortunately, tanked, with players reporting multiple glitches and bugs on all platforms. As of 17th December, Playstation Store has called-back digital copies of the game. Optimized versions of Cyberpunk 2077 are due to release in 2021.

Spider-man: Miles Morales

The very first sight of the open world, action-packed Spider-man: Miles Morales we got was on the 11th of June 2020, following which, on the 12th of November, Insomniac Games released another trailer giving us a peek into the unique, yet familiar storyline for this edition of the franchise.  We see a young teenager, Miles, and his mentor, Peter Parker vow to take on the corrupt business organization, Roxxon, who are in the midst of distributing questionable, new, clean energy called Nuform.

Spider-man: Miles Morales is exclusive to PlayStation consoles and was put out on the PSN store on the 12th of November with the help of Sony Interactive Entertainment. The hype that was present behind the game soon came to an end after its launch, selling only 663K copies, following its predecessor Marvel Spider-Man which sold a staggering 2.2 million copies.

The gameplay trailer was played on the PS5 and if we’re to compare the PS4 to the PS5, the gaming experience is vastly different. Ghost of Tsushima

On the 30 of October 2017, PlayStation announced their new action-adventure game developed by Sucker Punch Production, Ghost of Tsushima. The game is based on a real historical event that occurred in 1274 when the Mongol army invaded Japan, gaining control first over the islands of Tsushima.

The game follows the main protagonist Jin Sakai(voiced by Daisuke Tsuji), a samurai from the island of Tsushima having to fight off the Mongols during the invasion of 1274. A fleet led by Khetun Khan lands on the islands of Tsushima to face Jin’s uncle Lord Shimura. In an unfair battle, the samurais are defeated leaving Jin on the battlefield wounded. He has to now fight to reconquer the island of Tsushima.

After its launch on the 17th of July 2020, Ghost of Tsushima became the fastest-selling original game developed by PlayStation 4, and confirming this was the head of PlayStation Studios Hermen Hulst as he tweeted stating “#GhostofTsushima is our fastest-selling first party original PS4 game with more than 5 million copies sold since its debut in July.”

Watch Dogs Legion

Before Ubisoft released a trailer on Youtube, they teased the launch of the third installment to the Watch Dogs series on Twitter on the 5 of June 2019. The story continues to follow the hacktivist vigilante group Dedsec while they try to prevent government organizations from ruling over London. Set in a fictional open-world version of London, in the early 2030s, an organization called Albion has been hired by the government and tasked to find Dedsec to put an end to the group.

In the game, players are meant to recruit people from the streets of London who oppose the government and each individual will have their own skills. If one of your crew members dies, you lose them and their ability. Watch Dogs Legion officially launched on the 29 of October 2020 and, comparing it to Watchdogs 2 which sold 431,000 copies, Legion sold 1.9 million.

Online gameplay is being developed by Ubisoft and has been said that release will take place in early 2021.
