It was in June 2012 when the Dance Music world was left teary-eyed with the announcement of EDM Supergroup Swedish House Mafia marking the end of their ride with a series of shows through their ‘One Last Tour,’ which took place deep into 2013 before finally drawing the curtain in Miami. The split seemed to have come out of the blue considering their monumental rise to the echelons of Electronic Dance Music, and the decision left everyone by surprise.
The super-trio’s breakup sent shockwaves across the EDM fraternity because Swedish House Mafia was inspirational. The trio of Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso had inspired a generation of producers when they were at the peak of their powers, and despite splitting 8 years ago, they continued inspiring up-and-coming producers after their break-up.
Even after the split, their collective presence was still felt, and it was a testament to the benchmark they had set for producers and listeners alike. The trio, as expected, went on to release music through their solo projects, and there was no sign of a comeback for nearly six years until one fine day in 2018.
Miami’s famous Ultra Music Festival, on their 20th anniversary, announced the trio’s reunion for a performance at its 20th edition. This performance made special by Axwell’s announcement, which said, “My name is Axwell, this is Sebastian Ingrosso and Steve Angello, and we are still the Swedish House Mafia,” marked the start of a special time for Swedish House Mafia, which saw them perform across the globe.
After completing their ‘Save Their World’ showcase in 2019 came a long, long hiatus until July 2021, when they started teasing their posters everywhere (one of them being in the middle of the Times Square) which featured their newly formed logo along with 16 07 21 written under it. Those teasers have now followed up with a captivating new single, which has sent the EDM world into a frenzy.
Here’s where it gets better. First, It is not just one, but we have another single coming in from the Swedish Powerhouses featuring Ty Dolla $ign and 070 Shake, named “Lifetime,” which premiered on Jimmy Fallon’s famous The Tonight Show. Second, Swedish House Mafia have also announced an album, Paradise Again, which will drop later this year.
Swedish House Mafia have kicked off the album with ‘It Gets Better,’ which is an excitingly different take from the trio and a move away from their anthemic style of songwriting. The tune is an eerie percussion-packed number with a unique blend of Hip-Hop and House elements, with the trio bringing the magic of sonics to full effect.
