Natalie Imbruglia – On My Way [Single]

The third single from her upcoming album ‘Firebird’ which comes out later this month, Natalie Imbruglia released ‘On My Way’. It’s a summertime song about being in the flow and is one of her favourite songs from the upcoming album. ‘Firebird’, which drops on 24th of September 2021 embraces themes of independence, vulnerability, strength and fragility. The multiple award-winning singer who broke into the limelight in the late 90’s with her song ‘Torn’, has teamed up with some prolific musicians and producers like Eg White (Adele, Dua Lipa, Sam Smith), KT Tunstall, Albert Hammond Jr. (The Strokes), Fiona Bevan (One Direction, Ed Sheeran) and more.

Iron Maiden – Senjutsu [Album]

The 17th studio album from classic Brit metal legends Iron Maiden – ‘Senjutsu’ – which roughly translates as tactics and strategy, comes 6 years after their last album ‘The Book of Souls’ from 2015. Unlike sticking to the trademark sound that their fans know them for, the band has evolved in their sound, still maintaining their signature melodic style. The band has reached a level of musical maturity making them sound both comfortable and ambitious. This is the longest the band has seen the same lineup, from 1999 to present times, which clearly reflects the ease and chemistry that the band members have developed with each other. Catchy choruses, running rhythms and guitar solos – still the Iron Maiden we all know and grew up to!

ANIMALS AS LEADERS – Monomyth [Single]

The mind-bending genre-mutating instrumental trio of Tosin Abasi, Javier Reyes and Matt Garstka dropped their first release in 5 years – ‘Monomyth’. Musically, ANIMALS AS LEADERS’ songs are normally a dynamic journey, fusing everything from jazz to technical death metal to modern progressive metal. This song does not surprise in that department. The highest level of musicianship, but with a focus on feel, mood, texture and expression. All of that coupled with 8-string guitars used intelligently just make the band a sonic treat for listeners of all genres who crave immense musical creativity.

PAV4N (Foreign Beggars) x Silverstrike – MAXIMISE [Single]

Celebrating the one-year anniversary of his record label 4NC¥ (Foreign Currency), British-Indian rapper from the illustrious Foreign Beggars, PAV4N released the single ‘MAXIMISE’. The song speaks about maximising the potential one sees in oneself. Producer Silverstrike from Hong Kong provides the right amount of juice in his beat to match the lyrical potency and stellar delivery of the master wordsmith PAV4N. Speaking about maximising, 4NC¥ has successfully been able to connect producers, musicians and artists from across the globe. Going against all the manufactured giants, the label gives artists a fair chance at achieving professional levels of work, which can thus compete with the mainstream.

Cassettes – Kan [EP]

Indie pop / rock band Cassettes from the north eastern state of Mizoram, released a 6-song EP ‘Kan’. Their sound is a pleasant blend of some laid-back folk music meets country pop meets that modern singer-songwriter vibe. The songs across the EP have some beautiful vocal harmonies, use of slide guitar, and 3 out of 6 songs are in their native language Mizo and 3 songs in English. The perfect soundtrack for a trip to the countryside or a trek up some hills.

Whitechapel – Lost Boy [Single]

Levelling up in every department, be it songwriting, singing and growling vocals from brutal vocalist Phil Bozeman, and announcing officially into the band the entry of drummer Alex Rudinger, Whitechapel released the single ‘Lost Boy’. This is the first song to be revealed from their upcoming album ‘Kin’, which is slated to drop on 29th October, 2021. Whitechapel‘s new refined sound still has a raw taste of the death metal chops that were one of the founding elements of the band, with the addition of the use of clean singing vocals and softer sounding guitar tones as well. We can’t wait to hear more from ‘Kin’.

Drake – Certified Lover Boy [Album]

A jaw-dropping 21 songs, a reignited beef with Kanye West, some great guest artists like JAY-Z, Travis Scott, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, Future, 21 Savage and more… Drake certainly knows how to make an album release look and sound like a party. ‘Certified Lover Boy’ was supposed to be released at the beginning of 2021, but was delayed because the ‘champagne papi’ had a knee injury. The updated date of release and the tension with Kanye had the universe of social media going crazy, and just added to the drama and anticipation for the album drop from audiences the world over.

Dope D.O.D. – Told You So (Prod. By Chubeats) [Single]

Presenting a music video with a grimy dystopian aesthetic, Dope D.O.D., a hip-hop crew from the Netherlands released the single ‘Told You So’ with a groovy beat by Chubeats from their upcoming album ‘The Whole Planet Shifted’ coming out on 29th October, 2021. Their sound combines aggressive and heavy beats with strong vocal lines, topically a little out of the box, laced with lyrical intricacy and generally rotates around an old school hip-hop space with elements from electronic music as well.

LTJ Bukem – Flip the Narrative [Single]

When this upload popped up on our feed, we weren’t really sure if we were reading right. An LTJ Bukem tune in big 2021 was something we didn’t expect even in our dreams. The man who brought Jazz, Funk and Atmospherics to Jungle and Drum & Bass has returned with a punchy Liquid roller on the Drum & Bass Arena label.  If you have heard LTJ Bukem’s music in the past, ‘Flip The Narrative’ will almost feel like you have gone back to the golden days of LTJ Bukem’s Good Looking Records when artists like Peshay, Future Engineers were belting ridiculously good tunes like it was a piece of cake.

Leotrix – Crash Report [Single]

With releases on labels like Bassrush Records, Buygore, Deadbeats, Dim Mak Records, Disciple, and Never Say Die: Black Label, 20-year-old Australian producer Leotrix is already a force to reckon with. For his latest release with Never Say Die Records, Leotrix has brought his brand of dramatic drums and experimental sound design on ‘Crash Report’ which has the perfect balance dark, light and synthetic worlds of Dubstep brought together with a fluttering bass drop; a style that is slowly becoming synonymous with the Sydney-based producer.

Reinier Zonneveld – CSE [Single]

Taking his explosive brand of Techno to the world, Dutch producer and Filth on Acid Head honcho Reinier Zonneveld has comfortably placed his name in the legendary bracket of the genre that he plies his trade in. CSE, Reinier Zonneveld’s latest track on his label is a stamina-testing mind bender that brings his hard-hitting Acid Techno power for the fore. It’s also a reminder of how the Dutch producer can effortlessly switch styles ranging from deep melodic tracks to thumping Warehouse Techno.

DJ Seinfeld – Walking With Ur Smile [Single]

A moniker of Swedish sensation Armand Jakobsson, DJ Seinfeld started as side project to his Rimbaudian alias with the aim to explore the deeper avenues of electronic music. Taking life in early 2016, DJ Seinfeld started seeing himself turn into a pioneer in the budding Lo-Fi House scene. Back with his second album after the ‘Time Spent Away From U’ LP in 2017, ‘Mirrors’ is an album leaning towards Garage and Breaks side of electronic music featuring the DJ Seinfeld’s smartly employed Lo-Fi hooks. Our favourite from the album is ‘Walking With Ur Smile’ which is a delicate Garage number with vibrant melodies and breezy vocal samples.

The Bug – Demon (feat. Irah) [Single]

Part of his newly released ‘Fire’ album, some reckon it’s The Bug’s best work while some suggest that the album is an omnipresent menace; but that’s the point. Through the album, The Bug intended to encapsulate the mood around modern-day Britain, and he has done it to perfection. ‘Fire’ is an industrial album right from the first track and a masterclass of bass-driven electronica which can only be pulled off by a man who blends Dub, Jazzcore, Industrial Hip Hop, Dancehall, And Dubstep with unbelievable ease. Our favourite from the album is ‘Demon’ featuring Irah which is an ode to the menacing bass writhing sounds his Techno Animal alias from the ‘90s.

We’ll be back next week with more interesting recommendations for you to listen and / or groove to!
