This is arguably the biggest news of 2021 for the Indian music, gaming and comedy community! Only Much Louder also famously known as OML, who are the people behind India’s premium music and comedy festival, the NH7 Weekender, have had their gaming and other intellectual property (IP) taken over by NODWIN Gaming, an independent subsidiary of Nazara Technologies Ltd.
Nodwin is also the company that raised INR 164 crore in equity investment from Krafton, which is the company behind games like PUBG Mobile and Battleground Mobile India.
Following the IP takeover, Sidharth Kedia, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of NODWIN Gaming emphasized “We’re getting access to some of the IPs that OML has created specifically for the youth, where there is a big crossover of gaming, music and comedy. We’re also getting access to all the talent which is now increasingly focusing on gaming. Those are the businesses that we’re acquiring from OML,”.
The IP acquisition includes some of OML’s trusted and well-known properties like the Bacardi NH7 Weekender, YouTube Fan Fest, and India’s leading Hip-Hop league — Breezer Vivid Shuffle.
What started as an independent artist management venture by Vijay Nair in 2002, and incorporated in 2006 with co-founder Girish ‘Bobby’ Talwar, the firm has brought a culture shift in the Indian music and comedy industry and while managing 700+ creators across India. It has been home to the festival that has hosted some most diverse festival line-ups in the country.
NH7 Weekender has seen acts like Joe Satriani, Steve Wilson, AR Rahman, Amit Trivedi, Meshuggah, Mogwai, Megadeth and many more perform across the lengths of the country. Along with heavyweights in music, OML have had comedians like Tanmay Bhat, Biswa Kalyan Rath, Sumukhi Suresh, Kaneez Surka, Sorabh Pant, Neeti Palta and more performing at shows and festivals pan India.
The acquisition which is valued at INR 73 Crore will see Ajay Nair, the Managing Director of OML Entertainment join NODWIN’s Gaming company board and work with Akshat Rathee, the MD of NODWIN Gaming to ensure the smooth integration of the newly acquired OML IPs into NODWIN Gaming and assist the company in growing their gaming business.
Speaking of the acquisition, Ajay Nair stated “We believe in the convergence of different pop culture genres and have seen that this has already happened across several platforms and IPs. It makes a lot of sense to consolidate the strengths that OML Entertainment and Nodwin Gaming have in the live IPs and gaming spaces.”
By acquiring the IPs , NODWIN Gaming hopes to expand its reach to the growing gaming audience in India while OML Entertainment will remain focused on developing its OTT content production, talent management, and branded content businesses.
