Museum Honoring Electronic Music Opens This Month

In the mid-2000s, when the electronic music wave started creeping its way into the global music festival circuit, it was tipped to crash almost immediately. A decade and a half later, electronic music genres are some of the most respected and popular genres in the world with big players in House and Techno dominating festival mainstages across the world.

Every major electronic music genre has a long history with its stalwarts and fresh talent continually developing and refining their music at critical junctures and stepping into new eras of contemporary electronic music with the right approach.

Naturally, with its time span comes the genre’s rich history and the Dutch city of Amsterdam will open a museum that will pay homage to the international culture of electronic music.

Our House, which will be “the world’s first modern museum” dedicated solely to electronic music, will have six exhibitions and 15 installations such as photo galleries, interactive vinyl players, documentaries, flyers, drum machines and a closing 4D audiovisual experience called “The Culture Ride.”

Jans Jeroen, former art director of ID&T – a company that has been responsible for festivals like Electric Zoo and Tomorrowland – is the brainchild behind the project and his ‘Our House’ showcase will take you on a journey into the history of electronic music, right from its origins in the Chicago ghettos in the 1980s until today.

“Together with more than 150 international artists, promoters, creatives, producers, curators, operators and DJs, we have worked for the last two years on the realisation of the collection. It is an honour to be able to pay homage to this fantastic culture.”said Jans Jeroen on his thoughts about the Our House Museum.

The Our House museum will begin on the 29th of October and it can be found at the former site the iT, one of Amsterdam’s first House music clubs.

Leading contributors to the museum are Carl Cox, Kevin Saunderson, Charlotte de Witte, Armin van Buuren and The Frankie Knuckles Foundation.
