Co-op couch games are multiplayer games designed to be played on one screen with various categories available like first-person shooters, RPG’s and even puzzles. In 2021 co-op couch games are hardly chart-toppers but we’ve listed down games that you can play with your friends and family and enjoy the split-screen experience. 

It Takes Two

It Takes Two is an action-adventure couch co-op game that is developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts on the 26th of March, 2021. The story follows two married couples, Cody and May that recently started having alot of arguments and are explaining to their child about their divorce. 

Their child Rose, takes her dolls that look like her parents into the family shed to repair their broken relationship. Magically, the parents wake up in a doll’s body trapped and unable to get back to the real-world. Players control Cody and May, who get different superpowers each level that help them proceed to the next level, making their bond stronger and fixing their relationship.

Overcooked is a chief-simulator developed by Ghost Town Games and published by Team 17 on the 2nd of August 2016. The game is only playable on a local server with upto four people having to make a meal in a completely chaotic environment and various obstacles. 

The game is available in all gaming platforms other than Amazon’s Luna and Google’s Stadia. The game also has a sequel that we highly recommend you play that is called All You Can Eat for the Xbox Series and the Playstation 5.

Resident Evil 6

Developed and published by Capcom, Resident Evil 6 is a third person-shooter and a major instalment to the Resident Evil series. The story revolves around four characters (Leon S.Kennedy, Chris Redfield, Jake Muller, and Ada Wong) whose campaigns are all interconnected, while each character has their own way of completing the story.

The game launched on the 2nd of October 2012 for the PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360, and later in 2016 the game was re-released for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One. Later in 2017, another sequel followed called Resident Evil 7: Biohazard which sold over 10 million copies and had interesting boss fights with great mechanics. 

A Way Out

Developed by Hazelight Studios and published by Electronic Arts on the 23rd of March, 2018, A Way Out is an action-adventure game directed by Josef Fares who also directed another famous action-adventure game called Brothers: A Tale Of Two Sons. 

The game is only playable on local or multiplayer split screen co-op only between two people. The story follows two prison inmates, Leo and Vincent who must break out of prison and stay on the run from the law. 

Beyond: Two Souls

Beyond: Two Souls is an interactive drama, action, and adventure game developed by Quantic Dream and published by Sony Computer Entertainment on the 8th of October 2013 exclusively for the PlayStation 3 and later for PlayStation 4 on the 24th of November 2015. 

The game follows a young woman called Jodie Holmes who possesses supernatural abilities with her psychic link to a mysterious force. As a young child, Jodie was experimented on due to her psychic powers that linked her to an entity called Aiden. 

Kane & Lynch

Kane & Lynch; Dead Men is a third person action-adventure shooter developed by IO Interactive and Published by Eidos Interactive in 2007. The game is available for the Microsoft Window, Xbox 360, and the PlayStation 3. The single player campaign mode allows the player to control Kane, while the co-op multiplayer allows players to control lynch while the mechanics for the both are the same. 

The story follows two inmates on their way to death-row while reading a letter sent by Kane’s daughter expressing her feelings for the last time. Convicted for manslaughter, Kane knows there is no way out, while another man, Lynch let’s him in on a secret, a breakout.   

Portal 2

Portal 2 is a puzzle-solving game developed and published by Valve in 2011. The first-person game is available on Microsoft Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. 

The story of the game takes place 50 – 50,000 years after the events of the first game which had Chell destroying the sentient computer GLaDOS and landing back on their home planet she was taken into the Aperture Science where she was placed in a relaxation chamber. 

F1 Race Stars

F1 Race Stars is a Racing game based on the 2012’s Grand Prix with abilities, jumps, and even short-cuts. The game was developed and published by Codemasters Birmingham for the PlayStation 3, Microsoft Windows, Xbox 360, and Wii U in November 2012. 

The game has several maps similar to the real-life tracks for the Grand Prix where players can play split-screen co-op with up to four players. The races include many traps you can lay out for NPC’s as well as your friends to slow them down and win the race.

There are many Lego games for you to choose from like the Marvels Lego games, the Harry Potter Lego games, and even Jurassic world’s Lego game. All of the Lego games have been published by Warner bro’s Entertainment but developed by different developers. 

The co-op multiplayer always makes players work together using special abilities to reach the checkpoint and to finally battle the Boss. Each of the Lego games is highly fun and addictive with the majority of the games inspired by movies. 

Rainbow Six Vegas 2

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Vegas 2 is a first-person shooter developed and published by Ubisoft on the 18th of March 2008. It is also the seventh instalment to the Rainbow Six franchise which now has 15 games under its name. 

The story is centred around the main character, Bishop whose looks and gender can vary according to the player’s choice. Bishop has come from the Rainbow squad with a lot more experience and has more involvement in the main story. The timeline in Vegas 2 follows the past including the present timeline making the story of Vegas 2 much better the it’s predecessor. 

Some of these games might not be available on consoles like the PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Switch, but all these games should definitely be on your list of games to play this year. With RPG’s, action-adventure games and even simulator. Co-op couch games have it all.
