Highly Anticipated Movies You Should Watch in December 2021

Along with the theatrical releases, movies are now also being released on OTT platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Disney Plus, HBO Max, and more! This can make it a little complicated to keep track of some exciting movies coming out. We thought we’d help you catch up with some of the most anticipated releases every month by compiling a list of movies spanning from theatrical releases to those out on streaming platforms. Single All The Way – December 2

Peter (Michael Urie) is visiting his family this Christmas season. However, desperate to avoid his family’s judgment about his perpetual single status, he convinces his best friend Nick (Philemon Chambers) to join him for the holidays and pretend that they’re now in a relationship. But their plans and feelings eventually change when Peter’s mother (Kathy Najimy) sets him up on a blind date with her handsome trainer James (Luke Macfarlane).

Apart from the aforementioned actors, this holiday rom-com also stars Jennifer Coolidge, Schitt’s Creek’s Jennifer Robertson, and more! ‘Single All The Way’ is streaming on Netflix from December 2nd onwards!

Flee – December 3

‘Flee’ tells the story of Amin Nawabi as he “grapples with a painful secret he has kept hidden for twenty years.” On the verge of marriage, Nawabi is compelled to reveal his hidden past for the first time as it threatens to derail the life he has built for himself and his long-time boyfriend (soon-to-be husband). The story is recounted mostly through animation to director Jonas Poher Rasmussen. Watch Amin tell the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan for the first time, December 3 onwards in limited theaters!

 

Diary of a Wimpy Kid – December 3

The all-new animated adventure ‘Diary of a Wimpy Kid’ is coming to Disney+ on December 3! Greg Heffley is a “scrawny but ambitious kid with an active imagination”. He has big plans to be rich and famous but first, he has to survive middle school. To make matters worse, Greg’s lovable best friend Rowley seems to coast through life and succeed at everything without even trying!

Greg tries to fit in but it only details his hilarious and often disastrous attempts which fill the pages of his journal. He learns to appreciate true friends as well as the satisfaction that comes from standing up for what is right.

 

The Unforgivable – December 10

Starring Sandra Bullock, ‘The Punisher’ actor Jon Bernthal, Viola Davis – recipient of an Academy Award, a Primetime Emmy Award, and two Tony Awards, Daredevil’s Vincent D’Onofrio and more in ‘The Unforgivable’, Bullocks transforms into Ruth Slater, a woman released from prison after serving a sentence for a violent crime. When Ruth re-enters society, they refuse to forgive her past and she searches for her little sister she was forced to leave behind. ‘The Unforgivable’ premieres on Netflix on December 10.

Being the Ricardos – December 10

‘Being the Ricardos’ follows Lucille Ball (Nicole Kidman) and Desi Arnaz (Javier Bardem) as they face a crisis that could end their careers and another that could end their marriage. They are threatened by shocking personal accusations, a political smear, and cultural taboos in the behind-the-scenes drama, which gives us a glimpse of the couple’s complex romantic and professional relationship.

‘Being the Ricardos’ takes audiences into the writers’ room, onto the soundstage and behind closed doors with Ball and Arnaz during one critical production week of their groundbreaking sitcom “I Love Lucy.” This film releases in select theaters on December 10 and streaming on Amazon Prime Video from December 21 onwards!

 

Spider-Man: No Way Home – December 17

In ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ our friendly neighborhood Spider-Man is no longer able to separate his normal life as Peter Parker from the high-stakes of being a SuperHero due to being unmasked. He then asks Doctor Strange to help. Watch the stakes become even more dangerous, which forces him to discover what it truly means to be Spider-Man in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ coming to theaters near you on December 17.

 

Nightmare Alley – December 17

Charismatic but down-on-his-luck Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) endears himself to clairvoyant Zeena (Toni Collette) and her has-been mentalist husband Pete (David Strathairn) at a traveling carnival in the film ‘Nightmare Alley’ releasing on December 17.

Carlisle “crafts a golden ticket to success, using this newly acquired knowledge to grift the wealthy elite of 1940s New York society and with the virtuous Molly (Rooney Mara) loyally by his side, Stanton plots to con a dangerous tycoon.” He intends to do this with the aid of a mysterious psychiatrist (Cate Blanchett). However, this psychiatrist might be his most formidable opponent yet.

 

The Matrix Resurrections – December 22

The upcoming addition to the Matrix series is the film ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ in which Neo’s life, plagued by strange memories, takes an unexpected turn when he finds himself back inside the Matrix. ‘The Matrix Resurrections’ releases on December 22.

 

Sing 2 – December 22

‘Sing 2’ is the new chapter in Illumination’s smash animated franchise this holiday season. It arrives with big dreams and spectacular hit songs, so get ready to experience this wonderful musical journey! In this film, Buster Moon (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) and his all-star cast of performers (featuring Rosita voiced by Reese Witherspoon, Ash by Scarlett Johansson, Johnny by Taron Eagerton, Meena by Tori Kelly, Gunter by Nick Kroll, and more!) prepare to launch their most dazzling stage extravaganza yet.

They prepare to do it all in the glittering entertainment capital of the world. However, there’s just one hitch. Watch this film from December 22nd onwards in which they must first persuade the world’s most reclusive rock star – played by global music icon Bono, in his animated film debut – to join them.

 

Don’t look up – December 24

Helmed by Adam McKay, ‘Don’t Look Up’ features a stellar cast starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Lawrence as two astronomers, Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, Jonah Hill, Meryl Streep, Tyler Perry, Cate Blanchett, and more!

In this film, two astronomers – Kate Dibiasky (played by Lawrence), an astronomy grad student, and her professor Dr. Randall Mindy (DiCaprio) makes an astounding discovery of a comet orbiting within the solar system and the problem is that it is on a direct collision course with Earth. Well, there is another problem – no one really seems to care. Warning mankind about the same – a planet-killer the size of Mount Everest turns out to be an inconvenient fact to navigate and then they take the help of Dr. Oglethorpe (Rob Morgan).

With his help, Kate and her professor embark on a media tour. Mere months until the comet makes an impact, handling the 24-hour news cycle as well as gaining the social media-obsessed public’s attention before it’s too late proves shockingly comical. ‘Don’t Look Up’ launches on Netflix on December 24.

Minnal Murali – December 24

‘Minnal Murali’ follows a  tailor who gains special powers after being struck by lightning. However, he must take down an unexpected foe if he is to become the superhero his hometown needs in this film premiering on Netflix on December 24!

A Journal for Jordan – December 25

Directed by Denzel Washington, ‘A Journal for Jordan’ is based on the true story of First Sergeant Charles Monroe King. King (played by Micheal B. Jordan) is a soldier deployed to Iraq. He begins to keep a journal of love and advice for his infant son while senior New York Times editor Dana Canedy (Chanté Adams) revisits the story of her unlikely, life-altering relationship with King back at home.

King’s enduring devotion to her and their child, this once-in-a-lifetime love, is a powerful reminder of the importance of family. Watch ‘A Journal for Jordan’ December 25 onwards!

 

The Tragedy of Macbeth – December 25

A Scottish power-hungry lord Macbeth becomes convinced by a trio of witches that he will become the next King of Scotland after receiving a prophecy. He then sets his sights on the Scottish throne and his ambitious wife supports him in his plans of seizing power. ‘The Tragedy of Macbeth’ will release on December 25.
