Since their inception, Grime and Drum & Bass have shared a rich history together. Right after Drum & Bass’ formative years from the early ’90s and the subsequent monumental rise of UK Garage, Grime carved its way into the musical realms of the UK – influenced by UKG, Dancehall, Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass, Jungle and 2-step.
Since then, Drum & Bass and Grime ran in parallel for the better part of ten years, before Grime faded away from radio waves and clubs in the UK, due to Dubstep’s ruthless rise in the mid-2000s. Grime found itself in a situation similar to that of Drum & Bass, but soon, Grime’s stalwarts stepped up to the task and revived the genre. One of the acts that were influential in this revival was P Money, who released countless groundbreaking material and brought the genre back into the limelight.
Over the years, Grime and Drum & Bass have integrated immaculately, creating some breathtaking music. Prominent names like Flowdan added sonic versatility to 174 BPM Drum & Bass, with vibrant and impactful lyricism.
Hospital Records, who boast one of the most diverse catalogues in Drum & Bass, have one-upped themselves by bringing P Money together with their prodigy, Whiney, who is one of the label’s youngest ever signings, for a full-throttle album that converges Grime with Drum & Bass.
P Money, a legend within the Grime fraternity, will team up with Whiney. Whiney has been consistently churning his trademark underground sounds for over 7 years, including two genre-bending albums on Hospital Records’ sister label ‘Med School Music’.
While the album is in-the-works and expected to be out in 2022, P Money and Whiney have released a steaming single called ‘Buss The Red’, featuring P Money’s seriously infectious bars over Whiney’s grimey beats.
Keep an eye out, because when this one promises to be huge!
