The Awesome Orientalists From Europa

Music, in our opinion, has the power to transcend unimaginable boundaries. Music brings people and cultures together like no other form. With the Awesome Orientalists From Europa, we are bringing you a collective that infuses two cultures through music while advocating for issues that have plagued Europe over the years.

Awesome Orientalists From Europa is a project that takes some of the freshest music from the oriental world and gives them unique House, Disco and Electro flips. Inspired by record labels and DJs that specialize in ‘world’ music, A.O.F.E. turns the tables by rediscovering obscure and forgotten western dance floor tracks.

The A.O.F.E. project is the impeccable confluence of tribal and oriental cultures, but the most important outcome of the project is the cause it caters to. All profits from the A.O.F.E. project are donated to NGOs that fight Islamophobia, antisemitism and racism in Europe.

The project began in 2020 and has so far released three volumes featuring some sizzling edits. We will take a look at some tunes from their releases that have caught our attention.

AWESOME ORIENTALISTS FROM EUROPA – SO SANDY

We start off with the exotic yet cosmic edit by the A.O.F.E. collective called ‘So Sandy’. Taking samples from Croatian singer Sandy Marton’s 1985 track ‘Camel By Camel’, which packs the classic funk, oriental and punk sounds, the A.O.F.E. project has given their unique touch to the tune, while keeping its aesthetic intact with a pitched down approach.

AWESOME ORIENTALISTS FROM EUROPA – QU’EST CE QU’ARABE?

Another tune that brings its influences from the deepest lands of oriental music. ‘Qu’est Ce Qu’arabe?’, which means ‘What is Arabic’, takes a hypnotic and HI-NRG route that has the capacity to capture the eyes and ears of listeners, both on and off the dancefloor. The samples used in the track are an edit of the B side of an Acid House record released in the Netherlands in 1989 that samples a Muslim call to prayer.

AWESOME ORIENTALISTS FROM EUROPA – ATANAJA (AARON MAPLE EDIT)

The A.O.F.E. project, in just three releases, have bossed the art of taking fresh, unique and oriental sounds, and flipping them in ways that don’t kill the original’s essence. That, in our opinion, is how edits and remixes should be done. Released in their last edits pack, ‘Atanaja’, whose samples are taken from J.T.F’s break-sy tune, brings Finnish producer Aaron Maple for a dazzling electro edit of the original. A member of the ‘Free Shelter’ collective, Aaron Maple has also released edits on imprints like Dar Disku and Serenades.

AWESOME ORIENTALISTS FROM EUROPA – 1001 TRACKS OF ARABIA

Yet another edit, and yet again, an intelligent rendition that holds the essence the original track. Taking samples from Miro Miroe’s 1982 single ‘Nights Of Arabia’, the Awesome Orientalists From Europa re-create this tune with a sweltering and progressive electro edit.

AARON MAPLE – YEBE SELBIK HU – EDIT

Aaron Maple comes in with another steaming edit which we believe is the A.O.F.E. project’s best release so far. With samples taken from Libyan-Egyptian singer, Hamied El Shaeri’s 1991 single ‘Ya Banat El Shark’, the edit goes hard, right from the first second. As always, we won’t say too much. Just plug your headphones in and and dive into this oriental abyss.
