Hosted by Mo Gilligan, the Brit Awards 2022 was held at the O2 Arena, London. Adele made a triumphant return to the Brits, winning three top awards and taking the stage to perform ‘I Drink Wine’. She dedicated her win to her son and ex-husband. Little Simz won the Best New Artist award, while Wolf Alice was the Best Group at this year’s Brit. Ed Sheeran was presented the Songwriter of the Year award and the ‘Happier Than Ever’ singer Billie Eilish won Best International Artist for a third consecutive time. Mo Gilligan Kicks off the Evening With a Sketch
One of the most exciting comedians on our telly – Mo Gilligan kicked off the evening with a hilarious sketch in which he attempts to plan a dramatic entrance at the Brits. However, the host’s plans are thwarted by the show’s policies on carbon emissions.
Ed Sheeran Teams up With Bring Me the Horizon to Open the Brit Awards 2022
Opening the ceremony with a new version of Sheeran’s ‘Bad Habits’, Ed and Bring Me The Horizon, delivered an amped-up version of the former’s hit song. Dancers hung from wires, spun around the Brits stage as frontman Oli Skyes put his own spin on the song.
Adele Made a Triumphant Return to the Brits
Adele not only swept the Brits this year but also swept us off our feet with a stunning rendition of her song ‘I Drink Wine’ as she sat cross-legged atop a piano. Wearing a gorgeous golden dress, the star effortlessly hit every note in this pitch-perfect performance.
The performance comes after she bagged multiple awards at the show bringing her total Brits to twelve. The most decorated female artist at the awards noted a large number of nominees for the ‘Song of the Year’ category when she first appeared on stage to accept the award for ‘Easy On Me’. She said, “I can’t believe a piano ballad won against all those bangers!”
Taking home the Album of the Year award for ’30’, the singer dedicated her win to both her son Angelo and her ex-husband Simon Konecki, adding, “My son has been so kind and gracious and patient with me over the years.”
After a decade of experience in the music industry as a musician, she shares advice for new artists: “Never lose sight of why you are who you are. The reason people are into you is because there’s something you have in you,” she said. “Don’t ever let go of that ever.”
Best New Artist Little Simz Performs ‘Introvert’ & ‘Woman’
The Crown star Emma Corrin has featured alongside Little Simz at the Brit Awards 2022, who took the stage to read their part of the narration on the rapper’s album ‘Sometimes I Might Be Introvert’. Little Simz began her ‘Introvert’ performance by being raised up by dancers. She emerged from underneath a fabric sheet and while performing her single ‘Woman’, her dancers donned bold suits like her. They brought the same energy from the song’s music video to the Brits.
Billie Eilish Wins Award for International Artist for a Third Consecutive Time
The ‘Bad Guy’ and ‘Happier Than Ever’ hitmaker Billie Eilish claimed the Brit Award for International Artist for a third consecutive time. She also received an Academy nod for Best Original Song. This was for her Bond track ‘No Time To Die’. The twenty-year-old pop star bagged the nominations one after the other!
Ed Sheeran Is Presented as the Songwriter of the Year at Brit Awards 2022
Ed Sheeran, 30, dedicates his Best Songwriter Of The Year award to his wife Cherry, the only award he won out of the four categories he was nominated in. He is honored for his work on his album. This includes writing credits for artists like Taylor Swift and BTS throughout 2021.
After picking up his seventh overall Brit, the singer took the stage once again! This time it was for a relaxing performance of the song ‘The Joker and the Queen’ wherein he played his acoustic guitar donning a simple bomber jacket. He offered a moving rendition of his song as he was accompanied by an orchestra and a piano.
Olivia Rodrigo Wins Her First Brit Award for ‘Good 4 U’
The teen pop sensation Olivia Rodrigo delighted as she thanked fans for their support while accepting the star’s first Brit award for ‘International Song of the Year’ for her song ‘Good 4 U’. Rodrigo’s hit was competing against songs like Billie Eilish’s ‘Happier Than Ever’, Doja Cat ft Sza – ‘Kiss Me More’, Little Mix’s ‘Heartbreak Anthem’, ‘Montero: Call Me By Your Name’ by Lil Nas X, The Weeknd’s ‘Save Your Tears’ and more!
Dave Closes the Show in an Iconic Way
Dave delivered an epic rendition of his hit ‘In The Fire’ while closing the Brit Awards 2022. He performed alongside Fredo, Ghetts, Giggs & Meekz and an amazing gospel choir as he played a flamethrower guitar delivered a pyrotechnic-fuelled mind-blowing performance. The rapper performed an iconic and fiery solo after the cameos of his guest appearances. Dave also won the award for the Best Hip Hop/Rap/Grime Act award at the Brit Awards 2022.
