The God Of High School

Maybe you’ve heard about this anime already, or you’ve missed the hype around its awesome animation, overpowered characters, and god-like beings. The story of The God of High School takes place in South Korea, where students are to participate in a fighting tournament to earn the title of being the strongest student among all high schools.

Why is it on the list? Well, the main character Mori Jin will remind you of someone who’s a little stupid, always looking for the strongest opponent to compare his strength, and he has a whacky sense of humor. Remind you of a certain someone?

The Seven Deadly Sins

This is for you Dragon Ball Z fans who’ve been searching for another fast-paced anime that brings you to the edge of your seat! An insanely overpowered main character, with instant power-ups, and who becomes a blood-thirsty ‘king of all demons’, The Seven Deadly Sins should definitely be in your shonen watchlists!

Ten years ago, in the kingdom of Britannia, the Seven Deadly Sins were disbanded. They were a group of knights that could fight off all evil, and were the main line of protection for the family behind the throne. Until, the night a coup was set up against the royal family, and the Seven Deadly Sins were blamed. On the run and hiding from the authorities, the leader of the group, Meliodas, bumps into Princess Elizabeth Liones, learning the kingdom of Britannia is now ruled by the Holy Knights, while the king is now on his death bed. Meliodas and Elizabeth embark on a journey to find the other sins and take back Britannia.

Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure

Brought to light by Netflix in 2012, Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure is filled with action-packed fights and seriously powered main characters. Each season follows a different generation of Joestar’s famously known family members.

Written and illustrated by Hirohiko Araki, the world of Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure is quite similar to the real world, the only difference being the known existence of supernatural forces and beings. The Story of Jojo’s Bizzare Adventures is split between the Joestar family tree, as they take on vast supernatural enemies using special powers that are exclusive to the Joestar family. Many compare some of the Joestar family members to Goku, like Dio, who might actually be able to defeat the Sayain warrior!

Boruto – Naruto Next Generation

Since we’re covering anime like Naruto, we don’t think the list would be complete without adding the story of Naruto’s son! Yup, Naruto’s son is canon! First aired on April 5, 2017, the shonen follows Boruto, son of Naruto Uzumaki, the Hokage of the Leaf village. An above-average ninja who is facing his own unique challenges, Boruto carries the burden of being the son of the strongest person in the world!

Set in the same world as Naruto, we see everyone in the Naruto series all grown up and with kids of their own. The story was first introduced to us by Ukyo Kodachi, but later taken over by the original writer of Naruto, Masashi Kishimoto. We can’t wait to see how Boruto turns out in the future!

Fullmetal Alchemist – Brotherhood

Have you been in search of something sci-fi and adventurous? Well, we have just the anime you are looking for! In the world of Fullmetal Alchemist, viewers can expect magic and overpowered villains, as they are taken on a quest to find the Philosophers Stone.

Packed with twists and turns, the story of Fullmetal Alchemist follows two brothers, Edward and Alphonse Eric, on a journey to find the Philosophers Stone. The pair must restore their bodies which were lost after a human transfusion gone wrong, to bring back their deceased mother. While the story is inherited from the seven volumes of the manga itself, the writer, Hiromu Arakawa, urged the studio bones for a different ending compared to the mangas. Brotherhood’s ending, however, matches that of the manga, making this one a must-watch for fans of the original series!

The story of Hunter X Hunter follows a young adventurous boy named Gon. My Hero Academia

Dreams, ambition, and the need to excel, My Hero Academia has become one of the most entertaining anime to watch in recent times! The animation during fights is beautifully curated, while the story has made our main protagonist a force not to mess with!

We follow a young boy named Izuku Midoriya, a boy born powerless in a world where humans have evolved, and some have been gifted with superpowers. Grown up into a young teenager, his dream is yet set on becoming a superhero, until he meets his idol, and the strongest hero.

If you like insane fights that go on for episodes and enemies ten times stronger than the protagonist, this anime just might fill that Dragon Ball-sized hole in your heart. Pair these themes with insane training montages and ‘power-ups’, and you’ve got Bleach.

The story follows a young teenager called Ichigo Kurosaki, who, ever since birth, has had the ability to communicate with some spirits. However, he never thought he’d become the Soul Reaper. While also helping the dead pass through the afterlife, Ichigo has to keep evil spirits (called Hallows) from entering. It’s a real journey, and we will soon be having a new arc coming out called Thousand-year Blood War, that will release in October 2022.

One Piece

This list of shonen would not be completed without adding One Piece, a show that is probably older than you! One Piece has over a thousand episodes, and rumor has it that the anime won’t be completed till 2025. With super long fights and unique enemies, the One Piece world, created by Eiichiro Oda, has been a type of inspiration for many of the anime listed above.

One Piece follows a young boy named Luffy, as he takes on his dream to become the King of all the Pirates. He must do this by finding the most coveted treasure that ever existed, the One Piece! Luffy sets out on a quest to find a crew and head to the Grand Line where this treasure is hidden. Starting One Piece now would be a journey you need to be willing to take, as we’ve mentioned there are over a thousand episodes, with only 11% being fillers. Enjoy!
